pasta with one ingredient

  • So walmart makes this great cheap pasta where the only ingredient listed is durum whole wheat flour.

It tastes great but it really keeps bugging me that the flour is the only ingredient listed because then it should be, well, flour!

So my hypothesis is they mix the flour with water then dehydrate it essentially taking the water out. Do u guys think this is correct? I know it seems petty but this has been driving me nuts!
  • It's not dehydrated... It's just simply durum wheat mixed with water to create a pasta dough and then it's put through an extrusion process into the various shapes such as spaghetti, etc.
  • Then why do they not list water as an ingredient?

Because they don't have too... But just google "How Dry Pasta is Made" and hopefully that will help...
  • Well they should lol

Now I can't trust that there's not some other ingredient in there that I don't know about

    Thanks for your help!
  • Haha, I would be suspicious too. I tried going to walmart's site to look at their Q & A section for the product you mentioned, no one asked anything unfornately. You could always email them to be truly sure. As for them not listing water, I think it is only because there is no more water since it is dehydrated, you know?
