Ok I have a dirty little secret..... I am a smoker. I have smoked for 32 years and have a 1 1/2 pack per day habit. .
In the past couple weeks I have been feeling so much better with the weight loss that it makes me want to quit ...... again (I tried quitting numerous times, just like dieting) so I bought the electronic cig to help me. Most of my family and friends say to wait because I am doing so good on IP they are afraid I wont be able to do both and that I may end up failing both. This does scare me too. But after being sick these past couple days, and having a simple cold turn into bronchitis which it always does, I am thinking about trying to quit on Monday. I know if I quit I will feel sooooo much better and with the weight loss too.. OMG it would be wonderful. But I know people normally gain weight when they quit. Maybe i should just wait until I finish with IP.

What are your thoughts? Has any one here done both together? I am so afraid to mess up my diet. Thanks for any input you can give me.
  • Good morning everybody!

Cadu, I'm not a smoker, so I don't know how quitting will affect you, but the idea that you are willing to try is exciting and bodes well for your future, how you look at life and hope and all that good stuff, so I applaud you!!!!

Yesterday, I made my second Phase 4 dinner with my regular stir-fry of vegees, meat and big salad, but with a serving of a sprouted grain pasta too. I'd never had it before and it was really good - chewey, fullfilling and had more taste than regular pasta ever had, so I'm hooked.

I also went from a 1/2 mile walk to a 1 mile walk, plus my elliptical/rebounder/crunches, so that was great. Every little increase gets me more hopeful and excited.

Tonight I am going to another IP talk with Bob Grantham, which is great timing for me, because I still have questions about this Phase 4 stuff.

Hope everybody has a thoroughly hopeful, delightful day!
  • Not much time to chat, have to work, but WI3 I am down 6 lbs.........wow....completely happy with that! Hope everyone has a great OP day.........weather is crappy here today.....no sun

I think people gain weight when they quit smoking because they resort to food when they quit. They are used to smoking and instead of reaching for a cigarette, they reach for something else to put in their mouth. Since you are doing IP, you won't have that option. It's a strict protocol. I would think if you are going to do it, now would be the best time since you can control both. You already know you have strong willpower because you are controlling what you put in your mouth (food wise).

Ultimatly, you need to do what YOU think is right for you, not what OTHERS think is right for you.

We are here to support you regardless of your decision.
  • Good morning everyone! I went "shopping" in my BFF's closet last night. I didn't acknowledge my size. I took a stack of clothes home and when I tried them on, half the stuff was too big! In my mind, I'm still and XL when I'm really a L. I'm just excited to have more shirts to wear. My closet was looking pretty bare!

Weigh in is tomorrow and I'm anxious to see what the scale shows!

I am a smoker too, and I had the same anxiety and excitement about quitting when I was first talking about going on IP, but everyone, including the lady who first introduced me to the program strongly recommened against it, told me to reach my goal weight first. I've only been doing it for 4 days, and I'm thinking why wait? I waited a year and half to take my weight seriously, why take any longer to take my smoking habit seriously? The only reason people gain weight when they quit is because they tend to eat more, just to get the hand-to-mouth "feeling". I have made the decision to quit smoking, but its what's right for ME. You just gotta figure out what's best for YOU. Congrats on you weight loss!
  • Needing advice again.... I get very busy at work and end up getting home late, having had only a morning and lunchtime IP product, then sit down for a filling dinner (no IP product) around 7:30 or 8:00. I head to bed around 9:30 or 10:00 and am not one bit hungry. Should I still get my (3rd) evening IP product in, even though I'm not hungry for it or anything else? Does it matter if I just don't have that 3rd IP product? Seems silly when I am trying so hard to lose, to MAKE myself eat when I'm not hungry.

Oh, and for the most part I do always get all of my veggies in during the day so it's not that I'm not eating enough during the day. It's just that 3rd, evening IP product that I sometimes don't get in. I don't have my 3rd one at work because I'm always thinking I'll get home earlier and will want to have that 3rd one as a bedtime snack. Must say, more times than not, that doesn't happen though.

You really should have everything. Missing a daily packet can slow, if not stop, your weight loss. You don''t want your body to go into starvation mode.

How about putting a bar in your pocket and having that late afternoon, say 4ish? Or take the bar, cut in half, have half of that 3ish and the other half on your commute home?

Set alarm times on your phone if you need to remember when to eat or drink. It works well. This program is a medically designed plan that intends to rest and reset the pancreas. The objective is to stay in ketosis so that the body can heal and, as a result, the weight is lost and maintained.

    Just a thought.
  • Good Morning... Today is my 4th WI, I am excited to see !!! Hope everyone has a wonderful OP day !!!
  • Good morning all! Up early today to go to the dentist. Blah. Need to have an old filling replaced.

I have my weigh in tonight so I am hoping for another loss.

    Have a good one all!

    Great advise !!!!!
  • Happy Thursday everyone!

Have a great WI lilone! Let us know how it goes!

Cadu and CReed - only you can make that decision for yourself (yourselves) but I agree with what mamacita posted - since you are so strictly controlling what you eat, this might be a ~good~ time to quit smoking. I think most smokers trying to quit just put something (food) in their mouth to satisfy that oral/hand to mouth need, and you won't be doing that. Either way - great for you that you recognize and want to stop and we'll be here for you.

mamacita - so excited for you about the clothes being too big!!

3sisters, I agree with Chloe that you need to bring with you that 3rd packet or a bar to work. If you get home on time and don't need it, great, save it for later, but if you are working late and need it, then you'll have it. You do NOT want your body going into starvation mode!

kellycg - great WI!!! Keep up the good work!!!

And to Sewmam, navydocmom, wuv, mtnsun (good luck on your WI!) - GOOD MORNING!!
