  • Hi Chicks!

I am excited to say that I have started Atkins again, or my own variation of it. I did about a month back at the beginning of the year, but my meals basically went like Steak, Eggs, Cheese, Steak, Bacon, Cheese, Steak with bacon and cheese... you get the gist! At the end of the month my digestive processes had stopped and my blood pressure shot up, so I stopped. Since then, I've tried calorie counting (I immediately get hungry), Weight Watchers (way too slow and free) and Medifast (way to expensive).

Since I work a lot I need something that I can plan ahead for. This whole year, the only thing that has worked was Atkins, so I committed myself to doing it again, but instead of focusing on carbs, I'm going to focus on lean meats and veggies. My plan is to do 4 weeks. I'll cap it off with a all-fruit and veggie cleanse before I do another 3 weeks. That will get me through the holidays. Tentatively, I want to do another cleanse at the beginning of January and then finish the month on Atkins.

I don't have any projection of how much weight I want to lose. I started yesterday at 310.5. I haven't been below in 300lbs in 3 years so that's going to be the first win. 20lbs would be AMAZING! From there, I really just want to be able to stick to the plan through the holidays.

If anyone else wants to do a 3 month challenge, let me know. We can weigh in on Mondays and keep each other motivated!
  • I would love to do a three month challenge with you. I started induction Monday and need someone to buddy up with and share encouragement and motivation!
  • welcome back to Atkins! I just want to say that Atkins works best with more fat in your diet. If you blood pressure was elevated, maybe it was due to the amount of beef you were eating or the salt intake? It still sounds like you are going to keep your carbs low so that is great.

You should join us in the New Year's Challenge along with your own challenge. There are lots of people there and we can keep each other motivated
  • Yay Lori! It's weird we both started right when the holidays pick up! Great minds must think alike. I'm excited to have a buddy!

Hi Violet! Sure, I'll join in! I wanted to do 3 months to get me past ALL of the holidays. But I love a good challenge!
  • I'm right there with you...That is why I want to do it too> To get me past the holidays.

I've eaten this way during the holidays before and succeeded, so I know that we can succeed!
  • Hello ladies,
I would like to join your challenge! I have been doing atkins for 6 weeks now and recently went through a death in the family so I have stalled a bit. Monday I am getting back into the induction phase. I would love to be 15 - 20 pounds lighter by New Year's. Good luck! See you at the weigh in on Monday!
  • I'm so sorry to hear of the death in your family... welcome to our little Khumphrey!
  • Induction is being very good to me! I am down 7 pounds and getting very excited about being in ONEderland by my birthday Dec 2. I am already planning for Thanksgiving dinner with the relatives by making my own side dishes and having plenty of turkey.

One thing that I am concentrating on this time also is smaller meals and extra snacks. By doing this I have found that I have far less "hunger cheats". As a matter of fact I haven't had any, even making "puppy chow" for my son's junior high dance last night. Did not even have one, because I wasn't hungry!!!!! Yay!!!
  • hi everybody love to join all of you. I'm planning on starting the atkin Monday.
  • Hi Jumphigh! Welcome!
  • So here goes!

    Start: 310.5

    Wk 1: 307.5

This was the weirdest first week ever. I gained and loss these 3 pounds twice before I realized it's that TOM! I'm more excited for next week's loss.
  • Good job on the 3 lb weight loss. My official weight loss for the first week of induction is 6 lbs. I was up to 203 this AM, probably due to the carry in at. Church last night. I made the best low carb choices, but I'm certain they had sugsr in them: BBQ pork & broccoli salad. Was OP with everything else and looking forward to starting exercise this week.
  • Hi everybodythings are going good except every time i look around peoples are always trying to feed me. And I know i have to stay focus
    it's hard
  • So far this week has been tough. I've been working a lot of hours and traveling. The last 2 days, I've been faced with lots of obvious carbs and I've turned them all down. But because I've been trying to fight hunger (I ran out of snacks on the drive from Albany to Buffalo) I think I've taken in a lot of sneaky carbs in dressings, creamer and sauces. I'm afraid that when I check in the morning I will see a gain.

Do any of you have tricks to keep the hungries away when you aren't at home?
  • Good job on turning down those carbs!!!! I was tempted the same way today. Had to sit in a closed jury room with an open box of donuts!

tricks for travelling - cheddar cheese string cheese sticks, and hard boiled eggs, water, water, water

    Talk to you again soon!
