EXTREME fatigue...

  • I have been suffering from this for about a week now. I am tired all day long. At first I thought it was depression, but now I'm not so sure. I have been taking my meds regularly which the thyroid usually helps me feel better within a few days or so.
Could this be a Vitamin D deficency, with not getting very much sun? I am heading to the dr tomorrow, and wanted to talk about what I am feeling and maybe it is, but at this point I have no clue.
Oh and all I take is 500 mg metformin with dinner, and .05 mg of synthroid. I am so tired of this...I can't even make it through the day without a nap now!
  • It may be a vitamin D deficiency. How are you sleeping? How LONG have you been sleeping? Have you been tested for sleep apnea? A lot of people with PCOS have sleep apnea as well.

I agree to get your vitamin D tested, I had mine tested and my level was 21. The doctor said it should be at least 50. I took special vitamin D tablets for 6 weeks and now I take a multivitamin and a second vitamin that is calcium and vitamin D so I get 900 IU's a day. The doctor says 800-1000 IU's a day is good.

Oh btw sun isn't much good unless you are light skinned. Darker skin doesn't absorb as well.
  • I am white... I really do seem to feel more energy after I have gotten some sun, that is why I was curious about the vit d thing.
My dad and brother have sleep apnea...I am terrified that I have it. But I don't normally feel this way. When I have been getting enough sleep, which for me is 8-10 hours I usually am fine for the whole day...I sleep good too. DH says I don't snore, and the last few nights I felt like I had gotten a REALLY restful sleep, like I don't remember waking up much.
I'm wondering if 2 things are contributing to how I'm feeling. One is AF...my iron runs low during AF, since I run low on iron as it is. And the other is I am coming off of drinking caffeine/aspartame everyday. I stopped doing this, and I wonder if that's effecting it.
    Anyhow, thanks for your suggestions.
  • You could also be deficient in B12. Metformin is known to inhibit B12 absorption along with Vit D. I was deficient in both and was terribly tired.. Late afternoons were especially bad for me and I would struggle to keep my eyes open at work even though I had 10-12 hours of sleep the previous night. I had a blood test done, and the doctor put me on 50,000IU (1.25mg) per week and gave me a B12 shot. I could feel the difference in my energy level within hours.
  • I just saw the endoc and ended up with BOTH b12 and D deficient. I've also been battling this slumpy, sloggy, tiredness. On supplements to bring it back up but ugh! So I sympathize. It's hard to function.

    A.
  • Thanks both of you. I will be talking to my Dr about this.
  • I feel fatigued because of lack of sleep, I'm not depressed, it's just my body and my eyes say NO NO NO!!!
I tried sleeping pills and benadryill nothing really helps, the only thing that makes me fall asleep is stephen king books (sorry if you enjoy them)
