Exercise during first three weeks

  • I was told that they didn't recommend exercise the first 3 weeks on IP. What does your coach say? Has anyone had any problems or draw backs if you did exercise?

(Please take this the way it's intended, OK? Half joking. But just half).

Many others and I have answered this question so many times, at least once today, that I'm going to change my tone and approach.

Sure, go ahead and exercise. Eat up muscle, especially heart muscle. The more you exercise the more you'll eat up. And think about the weight you'll lose because muscle weighs more than fat.

However, one of the reasons ballerinas are so thin and sometimes die very young is because they exercise constantly and don't eat enough nutrients. Think about it.

I love hot yoga. Life got in the way in Sept so I stopped going. I started IP on Oct 6th 2010 and was told the same to not exercise.....yay a no exercise pass! wahooo on the 1st of Dec I started back to hot yoga 3 times a week. On those days I have a bar (restricted) I noticed that for the month of Dec I only lost 2 lbs for the entire month! BUT I lost a lot of inches. It is a trade off......... smaller numbers on a scale or smaller numbers on a ruler.
  • I don't exercise, but my husband does. Our coach told him no weight training for the first 3 weeks but light cardio is OK.
  • If you've read the Exercise thread, you've seen that I've exercised from the beginning... but I was already working out before I ever even heard of IP & then I didn't have a coach to tell me not to once I started IP protocol... in MY case, it never slowed me down... in fact, I'm stronger & fitter than I've been in over 25 years... I love my workouts & can't see giving them up as long as I'm able... *BUT* I'm not recommending others do the same... talk, talk, talk to your coaches!!!.. if they've given you the once-over like I understand they're supposed to, they know your physical condition & will be able to advise you WAY better than I can...

    hugs

My husband worked out 4 days a week even before IP too. Maybe that's the difference??
  • Thanks I did cardio before starting on the program as well. I took a break my first week but I think next week I'll start going again 3 days a week for some easy cardio. It keeps me sane.
