Hey everyone!

Last week when I was at my consult the couselor that I was talking with said that they want me to take a multi vitamin and a fish oil pill. She told me about the other suppletments (MRC 6) in case I wanted those but since I'm just pre-conditioning this week I didn't get any. Anyway, I know that MRC sells their own fish oil but she also said I didn't have to buy them there. She said I could buy them else where on my own but that I needed to make sure that it said "pure fish oil". My question is....can someone tell me a good brand of fish oil that is basically purely fish oil?? I went to an all natural/whole foods store and looked at the "NOW" brand but wasn't sure if that was a substantial brand of fish oil. I don't have anything against buying them at the center but I just thought I would buy them on my own espeicially if it will save me $. Okay I'm rambling....any advice on this?

I don't know about the fish oil, but I took flax oil (I think it primrose oil in it as well). I purchased from MRC. If I am remembering correctly, you can do flax instead of fish.

I prefer the flax oil, myself. I don't like having the fishy-tasting burps that come with the fish oil.

I use Nature's Bounty flax oil. It says it's "cold-pressed," so I assume that means that they aren't heating it up or otherwise changing the chemical makeup of it during the extraction process. I just get it from my grocery store.

I just went to Walgreens and asked a pharmacist. They were very helpful. I found one that was very similar to what they were selling at MRC. It even had the Omega 3, 6 and 9 (just like MRC). Most of the fish oils now have something in them to stop the fish burps, but my mom's doc told her to keep them in the freezer to help with the burps.

Ya know....now that you mention it I think she did say something about fish oil OR flaxseed oil. I go for my food instruction tomorrow so I might talk to her again about it. There was A LOT of info to take in during the consult!

Well, honestly, anything you buy over the counter, you will have to take several pills to meet their EFA requirement. I was taking 4 fish oils a day to make the MRC requirement. I took my bottle in to figure out MRC dosing...they have a new krill oil at MRC that was cheap...and you only take 1 a day. It smells nasty when you get it out of the jar, but it doesn't taste bad or give you the burps.

I would go for that so you don't get on pill overload.

I guess I didn't realize there was an MRC requirement that went with the EFAs. I have just been taking a tablespoon of my fish oil once a day because that is what it said on the bottle. Where would I find the MRC req? I think my green sheet just says that I need to take my EFA every day.

You have to take your bottle in to them. They will figure out how much you need. The "daily dose" of my old fish oil was 1-2 daily...but MRC said I needed at least 4, and at most 6. They said your body really needs the EFA, so it just depends on how much is in your oil. If you are using your own, I would take it to them just to be sure you are getting enough. Too little fat and EFA can make hair fall out and skin dry.

Well that would explain it! My hair is coming out and I have gator skin. I'm gonna see if I can call them. They may still be open!

I take one called Arctic Omega, but it's not in a capsule. You take it in a tablespoon. I thought it would be nasty, but it's not. It's got a pleasant light lemon flavor.

I was told to make sure that the EFA you're taking has Omega 3, 6, and 9. I got mine at Wal-Mart (just the generic brand) for $7/bottle. Mine was a 2-bottle package.

Ok...I found this in an earlier MRC post "it is recommended to take 2 1000mg or 1200mg pills at each meal." If this is the case, I am WAY under the amount. My Omega 3-6-9 is a liquid that only has a combined EPA/DHA of 700 per tbsp. So according to this I would need to take 3 tbsp with every meal? No wonder I have skin like an alligator hide!

I am taking Omega Red and I found it at CVS on sale for buy one get one free I like 1 pill a day versus the 6 I was taking!

Nordic brand is an excellent fish oil. It isn't the cheapest but if I am going to bother to take vitamins, I don't want to bargain hunt for them.
