What are the foods you must have?

  • What foods do you try to keep in your house at all times? I am doing a clean sweep on my kitchen and heading to the grocery store. I have really fallen of coarse these last few months and gained back 1/2 of the 80lbs I had already lost. I am looking for ideas and new things to try. I seemed to get board with eating the same things over and over.

  • I LOVE to snack. I think it is one of my main obstacles. This occurs especially when I am bored or stressed. Soooo, I ditched all "bad" snacky foods and replaced them with baby carrots, celery and one of my very personal favorites...frozen bags of edamame! I love edamame. My grocery store sells it in the pods, frozen in the microwave steam bags. Just pop it in for 5 min and a great, healthy snack. Good luck to you!!!
  • Cheddar cheese rice cakes-they taste like cheetos and fill my craving. Fruit and yogurt are a must in this house too.
  • I'm going to add hummus as a must have in this house as of today. My hubs bought some spinach and artichoke flavored today, I put it on my salad instead of dressing, and it was smooth, creamy, pretty much to die for. 70 calories for 2 tbsp fits right on in to my plan!
  • I always have these foods handy.

    Snacks
    Fruit (Apples, Strawberries & Oranges mostly)
    Yogurt
    Almonds
    Snow Peas (can be eaten at dinner too)
    Pretzels

    Often I will cut up an apple and have apple slices with a spoon full of natural peanut butter. Or apples slices and a few slices of low-fat cheddar cheese.

    When I eat salads I usually use Light Italian dressing or Light Honey Mustard. What I'll do is stick my fork in the dressing then in the salad. You use a lot less dressing that way.

  • I always keep a bag of brocolli slaw on hand. It is a fantastic way to bulk up any meal I'm cooking, especially ones that I used to serve with pasta or rice.

    Also, I always gotta have spinach in the house.

    Oh! And one more thing I find really helpful is to keep a bag of shrimp in the freezer- that's saved me a few times, especially in the morning when I just do not want the same old same old so I can make a quick shrimp omelet just for myself.

    I'm not so big on snacking, so I mostly try to have good choices for cooking on hand- if I don't have anything to make then it's way too easy to just toss my hands in the air and say forget it and go to a restaurant where it's so, so much harder to control what I get.

  • I eat the same stuff over and over--none of it's radical or strange.

    Stuff I eat every single day:
    Quaker double-fiber instant oatmeal
    Nuts/seeds
    Fruit
    Cabbage and broccoli slaw--I agree with poster above--LOVE this stuff.
    Natural no-sugar-added peanut butter
    Nonfat half-and-half and sugar-free Hershey's for my iced coffee
    Cauliflower/baby carrots for crunching!
    Turkey (sometimes I substitute another protein)
    Whole wheat double-fiber bread
    Tomato
    Canned low-sodium beans
    Salad greens/spinach

    I'm all about the fiber these days--fiber and good nutritional value, and it's actually turning out to be easier than anything I've tried before. Cheaper, too! I try to purchase locally-grown fruits and veggies whenever possible, and organic whenever possible. I also just realized by typing this list that we eat all of the fruit and most of the veggies raw (beans excepted); I have no idea how that actually occurred, except that it's summer and cooking is hot.
  • Cheese is a must have as is chicken.
  • For me...
    lots of fresh fruits
    mushrooms
    onions, bell peppers
    light cheese
    string cheese( its part of my daily snack)
    tuna or chicken salad
    meat( for grilling)
    planter groove nuts almonds
    frozen veggie blends for making stirfrys
    eggs
  • My go to foods that I eat several times a week are:

    Light string cheese
    Fiber One Bars
    cherry tomatoes - love to snack on these!
    black olives
    mushrooms
    egg beaters
    low fat/low sodium deli ham, chicken, or turkey
    Kangaroo sandwih or pita pockets
    Nature's Own Sourdough Lightbread
    LEAN (97/3) ground beef - cooked and crumbled
    Popcorn

    and a fave of mine for a quick snack when I have a sugar craving

    Starwberries dipped in Hunt's Sugar Free chocolate pudding - as close to chocolate covered strawberries as I can get and still just as good!
  • My food is pretty easy, what I need to have is:

    eggs
    tuna
    shrimps
    frozen veggies like broccoli, spinac, green beans
    nutella (chocolate cream)
    fresh fruits like apple, peach, strawberries
    and fresh veggies like iceberg and tomatoes

    What also is pretty good is soyaschnitzel (around 150calories per piece)

    Since I dont eat meat its pretty good!
  • Greasy, fatty, salty, nitrate-ridden, bacony goodness.

    I gave up wheat products since I couldn't deal with the rash, flaky skin, and itching that it causes any longer. It's my consolation prize, and I'm not giving it back.
  • Tons of spinach!
    fresh and frozen fruit (frozen for smoothies)
    fresh veggies (organic if I have a choice)
    fresh and frozen seafood
    eggs (the free range kind)
    coconut milk and coconut yogurt and greek yogurt
    pure stevia drops
    amazing grass powder
    chia seeds
    Fresh herbs (use tons of herbs in my cooking)
    Creole seasoning
    peanuts only peanut butter
    CDM coffee (love my coffee)
    coconut oil, olive oil, sesame seed oil

    in limited amounts (2 or so servings a week):
    ezekial bread
    brown rice
    quinoa

    Anything that has more than one or two ingrediants doesn't come into my house...nothing processed with additives
