  • I've been exercising for about 6 weeks and I don't like it one bit. Not only do I not like it, I don't feel like it's doing any good. Well, needless to say I'm not going to get very far with that attitude. I want to be COMMITTED to exercising regularly. I really want that. So I need an attitude adjustment.

Is there anyone else out there who needs an attitude adjustment or a boost of encouragement?

I was reading this article this morning about all the great things exercise does for your body, and how it really does make you healthier. So even though I can't feel the difference yet, I need to BELIEVE it's making a difference. Who knew it would be so hard to have faith in the facts?!

So, let's give each other a daily boost by listing the reasons we're exercising TODAY. Can't wait to read yours!
  • I'm doing the 30 Day Shred, and walking for 30 minutes today because it will reduce my risk of osteoporosis.
  • Oh I feel your pain girl! I to complain about exercising. I know I need to and I go but hate it! I try to think different about exercise and make it fun. When Im thinking positive about it, it sure goes by fast and I enjoy it more. I believe it has a lot to do with the way you think. Bad attitude makes it really hard to do it. Im glad you know what the problem is and want to change that. So here is to us!! Positive attitudes!!
  • I'm exercising today because I want to keep my heart strong AND cuz I want my butt to shrink
  • I exercised today because ... I need muscle to fill the slightly saggy bits.
  • I'm going to exercise today because my kids are making me want to bury them in the backyard....if I run my 3 miles I will not have the energy to do it
  • I WILL excersize tonight because it will give me more energy in the long run...and help shrink my hips and butt!!!
  • I, too, feel your pain. I don't mind lifting weights but I HATE to do cardio. I have come up with a compromise, I will go for walks at night with my hubby and not have to do serious cardio at the gym. I am also going to try to start riding my bike on the weekends again. It's a start!

As for why I did exercise today, and why I will tomorrow: I am flying to see my parents this summer and I don't want to have to ask for a seatbelt extension. I think if I had to do that, I'd never fly again.
  • Because I exercise every day, no ifs, ands, or buts.

Because it's several hours during which I won't be eating (I stop eating one to two hours before I hit the gym, then no eating while I'm at the gym).

Because it's time that I have to myself, during which no one can make any demands of me and I am doing something just for myself.

Because I have such cool songs on my iPod and the only time I get to listen to them is when I work out.

Because I get to sit in the dry sauna for ten minutes when I'm done. It's so nice to be warm.

Because I had to eat off-plan for lunch; I know that exercising after eating off-plan always helps me get back on plan and it wouldn't hurt to burn a few extra calories.

Because I like the way all my muscles look.

Because I like the way I feel about myself when I've completed my workout for the day.

thinpossible, you've got to give it more than six weeks. Exercise will absolutely change your body, but it's a slow process; it takes a while to see results. What really helped me in the beginning was to set a long-term goal for myself. I decided that I would stick with my program for four months, whether it was working or not. If after four months, it wasn't working, then I would try something different. You also haven't mentioned whether or not you've made any changes to your diet, but doing so would help you see results sooner.

It also sneaks up on you. You plod along at your workouts every day and it doesn't feel like they are getting any easier or you are making progress. But then one day you are out walking with your friends and you suddenly realize they can't keep you with you anymore. Or you are at the gym and you realize you are doing something easily that killed you when you first started. Or you finally go for your annual check-up and all your tests come back way better than last time.
  • BlueToBlue: you always have such a great attitude in your posts. I like reading them. It's funny that you mention progress measures. Just this morning, I tried the elliptical machine for the first time in about 5 years and wow, it was so hard. I could only do 2 minutes, stopping in between the minutes. I plan on using that as a progress measure.
  • So...like...can we post in this thread everyday??? I think each day is a great day to express why we are going to excersize today.

Troo...i agree with you about the elliptical. It is a great way to measure your fitness. Those ellipticals at the gym are tough!!! I had to work up to 30 minutes like 5 minutes at a time. One week at a time.

Today I will excersize tonight because it made me feel good about myself that i did it last night when i was tired and didn't want to. And it made my body feel good (well...not right afterwards...i was sore right afterwards...lol). This weekend (since I don't have internet at home) I will excersize because it will make me feel stronger and make my body leaner.
  • I'm a BlueToBlue fan too

I will exercise today because I'm going to eat off-plan at lunch and some cardio will make me feel better about that. Also I weighed in today and lost 2.4 lbs - gotta keep going!
  • I exercised today because I really enjoy it and look forward to it. I was also stoked that my most favorite workout pants in the world were clean - they make the old butt look like pure hotness.

It was such an invigorating start, that after my body pump class I stopped in to see my personal trainer friend at her gym. She asked me to work legs with her and I did! 2 workouts in one.

    Rawr!
  • I exercised today, and will tonight and tomorrow because I am determined to look good NAKED!!!!
  • Keep trucking Thinpossible!!!!

I'm going to exercise today cause I have the day OFF work which means I can run when it is light out and cause it is FUN FUN FUN to lift weights! Woohoo!
