That is a neat site Scooby! I liked the journal part too!

I am in...starting tomorrow. I notice that there is no cheese or dairy other than the evening glass of skim milk. It won't kill me to eliminate the cheese, I know it is what I have to do!!!

Thanks for posting it!

Default Thanks Scooby !!

That's a neat site! I'm going back in a bit to check it out more.

I started this morning and surprisingly DH is too. He lasted one week last year but didn't show any interest until this morning! He looked longingly at his early morning coffee sweet cake but resisted! He even just peaked over my shoulder to look at the Mayo site!

Thanks for posting it!

Janice

PS~ I probably won't get to the gym until the morning for my weigh in. I want an accurate scale for monitoring!

Default If it sounds too good to be true ...

I was skeptical of this diet so I did a little poking around.

Check out http://www.mayo.edu/about/mayo_diet.html from the Mayo Clinic Website.

It starts as follows:

“For more than 30 years the so-called "Mayo Clinic diet" has surfaced in many forms and many places. Various versions push grapefruit or eggs or meat and promise to peel off pounds magically. We can offer you clear and official advice: don't believe any of these diets. They did not originate at Mayo Clinic and are not approved by Mayo Clinic. These diets may promote temporary quick weight loss, however, they are not nutritionally balanced or a safe method of weight loss for long-term success. Such diets can be dangerous for some individuals…”

There's also this one at
http://www.mayoclinic.com/home?id=HW00001

it begins:

"It's been touted for decades as a sure-fire, safe way to lose weight. A respected hospital in Paris even features a version of it for those seeking to lose weight rapidly. There's just one problem: There is no "Mayo Clinic Diet."

The French recipe for losing weight (Le Regime de le Mayo Clinic) features grapefruit, eggs, mutton, fish, steak, chicken, spinach, tomatoes, celery and carrots, an occasional "biscotte" and liberal amounts of coffee and tea — sans sugar and cream, of course.

Other interpretations of the supposed diet guarantee a specific weight loss (52 pounds in 10 weeks, according to one). Most carry specific eating instructions like: "Stay on diet 12 days, then stop the diet for 2 days." "

Go to the sites to read more.

Sorry, folks. Don’t want to burst anyone’s bubble, and if it works for you, more power to you. But there was enough here to make me go back to the Zone balanced woe, and not try anything radical.

Best …
Barb

Hi Barb! I agree with you, if it sounds too good to be it probably is. In one of my posts I had commented that it is not distributed by THE Mayo Clinic. A copy of it was given to me by a friend that works at a hospital.

I am DEFINATELY not leaving my CAD program. The reason I am doing the 12 day program is as somewhat of cleansing system. After the initial 12 day my intention is to go back to my CAD program...by the book, absolutely no tweaking.

By no means am I encouraging that ANYONE should adapt this plan as a lifetime woe...I only happened to mention it in a post that I had "jump started" myself back onto LC last year with this plan and had good results.

Sure appreciate you checking it out tho to make sure your chick buds weren't chasing a rainbow so to speak!

I'm with you Janice....I need a little cleansing and jump start, I just posted the site so everyone could take a look.....we must all come to our own conclusions....that little web site even has the not endorsed by the mayo clinic disclaimer

I would never encourage anyone to do anything that would be detrimental to their health and well being, I just thought the web site was kind of cool

Take care all!

Angry I just thought of something...

Duh! I went back and looked at the site again for the veggie lists and realized that it claims you can lose 50 something pounds in 2.5 months by following the Mayo plan.

THIS IS NOT WHY I'M DOING IT!! Oh My! It would be wonderful, BUT, nonono. I'm doing it as an "induction" type of tool. As I had tried it for a short time last year to get me started back into LC I know the positives of this plan, for me. It was easy to be full on the right things and definately rid those carb cravings immediately. If I recall correctly I did lose about 8 lbs in the two week period, but I'm sure that was mostly water weight. From the initial period I went back to CAD and ended up losing 30 lbs. I've been very inconsistent with my OP days this year and want to "cleanse" myself again!

I hope no one felt I was following this plan for the claimed Miracle Weight Loss! Goodness, we'd be paying a kings ransom for it IF that were the case!

Anyway, just thought I'd clarify.

Exclamation

Medical Alert! You should not eat grapefruit if you take drugs like Covera-HS for high blood pressure (calcium blockers).

Besides, there are MUCH better induction diets than this. Bacon? Gods, here we go again. Try Physician's Weight Loss Center or LA Weightloss accelerated diets - much healthier.

Default Way too Serious

I think poor Mama J and I have been taken waaaay to seriously....I am not making a lifestyle change..I do not expect to lose 52 lbs in 2 months or any of the rest of that garbage...I was giving everyone the website to look at this for themselves....it has a disclaimer at the bottom:

not endorsed by the Mayo clinic

This is a fun little website with some interesting information!!! That is all!!!

I am spinning from all the concern!! Thanks to all for the information!!!!
