Default A New Week - May 8th Weekly Chat

It's been awfully quiet out there this weekend. Hope that's because everyone has been outside enjoying the beautiful spring weather. I have weigh-in tonight and will hopefully post a loss after 2 weeks of gains. I did ok this weekend....walked and got my bike out and working again. My golf league starts on Thursday evening. It's more of a fun league that a competitive one. We call ourselves "The Hazards" . I plan to walk as much as I can for the exercise.

Let us know how you're doing this week. Keep in touch.

It certainly was a GORGEOUS weekend! My boyfriend and I took his younger cousin into the city to see a movie for his birthday on Saturday. He just turned 18 last weekend, and we missed his party because we were in Va Beach for my sister's wedding. Well, he wanted to see this independent film that's not playing in very many theaters (movie called Brick), so we took him to an indie theater in DC. We took the Metro, so we did a little bit of walking--what a perfect day it was!

Default weekend

Hi all, I stayed home from work. After two weeks of 10 hr days and saturdays, I am just pooped out.. didnt sleep well last night due to a headache all night. Still have it but took some tylenol a bit ago.... I know last week wasnt one of my best. I got going again entering food into spark and keeping the journal. I find the journal a real help to let go of frustrations... working through some of that right now with the job situation.. Had hoped to get through this year with just my sons wedding to think about... Its getting closer for sure. June 10 is the shower and the wedding is July 22, t hen I have two nieces getting married soon after my sons.... busy time for me.. My one niece is getting married on a boat down near Watkins Glen, we live in the Finger Lakes region of NY.. so pretty that time of year, will be mid sept.....I plan to make a mini vacation of it and stay at a motel right on the water.... Exercise remains my weak area. I finally am getting relief f rom the bone spurs and found Blue -Emu for my knees, really helps after a walk.. I still walk Jack (yorkie) but our walks are short usually. I will try to get back to the gym t his week also. I did set a goal to burn 265 cals a day there....
Got to get moving, going to sort through summer clothes and put away sweaters and velour warm ups that I love... Everyone have a g reat week and Lyn.. .see you tonite.... Barb

I lost what I gained last week, so I am more encouraged. We are starting a team game - originally suggestted by IndiaCatz (Barb, our leader) - called Shooting for the Stars. We picked teams last night and everyone seemed excited. We earn points for keeping food journals, losing weight, exercising and encouraging our team members.

Barb, good to hear that you're picking up on your exercise. Yes, you do sound stressed with the weddings, job worries etc. Try to take in one day at a time. Hey, since you're on my "Stars" team, this should count as a point, right?

Default Smack Me Upside the Head!

I don't know what's gotten into me, but it seems like suddenly I am thinking I can go back to my old ways of eating. It's like I realized I lost weight and now I'm done, even though I'm far from done. I've gotten lazy about exercise, lazy about cooking and shopping for healthy food. I've gained back probably 8 pounds and I don't have the guts to update my ticker or my weight-loss spreadsheet.

So what am I planning to do? Well, I am planning breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. I haven't done this yet this week, but this evening I have to cook something at home, add a bunch of veggies, and keep it up.

Ugh, I found out yesterday that I'm expected to attend this quarterly update meeting we have at work today--from 4-6pm! Which means I'll be at work at least until 6:30, and my chapter is about 20 miles from my office and can take well over an hour to reach in evening traffic (which is why I normally leave work at 3pm and get there way early). If I get out of work before 7 or so, I'll try to find another chapter closer to my office or home to attend, but it all depends on how late I have to work. Grr...who schedules a meeting to last until 6pm?!

I really need my meeting this week, too. I've been having a bingeing problem lately. Any time spent alone is a dangerous time for food!

AND we started a new contest last week--we each made a yarn octopus, so for the next 8 weeks, whenever we gain, we have to chop off a leg I think I'm down this week, so I was looking forward to keeping my octopus safe. If I go next week and lose, though, I can still keep all my legs, but if I go next week and gain, then I have to lose TWO legs (one for the gain, one for the missed meeting). I don't want to lose any legs, so at least that's a little motivation to make sure I stay strong this coming week!

Default The Octapus Game

Jill,

We played that game a few years ago and another time before that. The best I did was to lose only 1 leg. We had a member volunteer to be "the chopper" and she really got into the role. It became such an emotional event, that some members will not play it anymore!

Phantastica - I know it's really hard not to go back to old habits. I had to work late last night and when I came home I was famished and started stuffing anything I could find into my mouth. When my normal schedule gets disrupted is when I have problems. I had to stop myself and just get out of the kitchen, turn off the lights downstairs and go up to the bedroom. Good luck - you can do it!!

I love the octopus idea! It's nice to have something small and concrete to carry around as a constant reminder.

Yesterday was pretty good. I had a scone for breakfast, which ranks in at 500 calories (yikes), but lunch was lite and dinner was ample, but healthy. And today is off on the right foot, too.

One thing that I discovered has saved my butt many a time, is finding a decent restaurant/deli lunch that I know is healthy and inexpensive. For $4 I can score a "side" salad with chicken, romaine, strawberries and mandarin oranges with fat-free raspberry vinaigrette dressing. Yum!

Default Yes..I'm Lucky at Lunch Also

Our cafeteria has at least 4 healthy specials everyday. In fact, if you want the non-healthy options, you have to specifically ask for them off the menu. Today I had a flat bread (whole wheat) topped with tomatos, lettuce and grilled shrimp mixed with a ceasar salad dressing. J&J is very good at promoting healthy life styles. We also have a fitness center. I've been twice this week and also had a yoga class there after work. So, I guess I have no excuse for not being healthy, right? The problem for me is after work!!!

OK, today isn't much better. I had a yogurt parfait thing for breakfast, a payday donut for my unnecessary "mid-morning snack", and we have a catered lunch at work today.
