Default To the families of tops members

I thought I would pass this on to anyone trying to lose weight. I'm a member of TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) and this letter was in one of our books but it can be used for anyone, in my opinion. I read it often and remind my husband of some of the tips (especially tip #1)

TO THE FAMILIES OF TOPS MEMBERS

Now that your wife or husband, mother or father, or daughter or son have joined TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), they need your cooperation more than ever before. We hope this letter will help our TOPS members in gaining moral support at the home front. Following are some suggestions that you can undertake to strengthen the family's understanding of the problem of a dieter.

1. Never nag a dieter about what he or she should not eat. It only seems to make a dieter rebel and eat more. Dieters know in their hearts what they should eat, and if left alone, they will realize the cost of eating the wrong foods when they weigh in every week and answer roll call in front of other TOPS members.

2. Please be patient with the dieter. They will have highs and lows as they try to discipline themselves. Ridding one's self of bad eating habits is not an easy task. Please bear this in mind and remember that they will be healthier and better looking and a lot more fun for you if you will only stick by them.

3. When they do start losing, praise them sincerely, not with empty words. Show pride in their efforts to conquer their failings. Sit back and see what a little praise and pride can do.

4. If they do start to backslide, remember the alcoholic can keep liquor out of the house, but a dieter can't keep away from her or his weakness - food! Give your TOPS an extra dose of encouragement with the offer of a special trip of the dieter's choice or a night out to show you are proud of her or him.

5. If you think their losing weight isn't important, ask your doctor how much excess weight shroten's one's life and how many risks the overweight incur.

6. Encourage regular attendance at TOPS chapter meetings. This is one of the most important programs and aids of TOPS. Make them get out and go even if they are dragging as we all do at the start and end of the day. Once they get to their meeting, they will be ready to enjoy themselves and diet another week.

Thank you for any help you have given or will be glad to give to your TOPS chapter.

Sincerely,

I think this is great! I am an Area Captain, and I'm going to give a copy to my Chapters.
Thanks so much for sharing it with us.
