Hi, I'm new to this sight. I need to lose 20 lbs, the same 20 lbs for the last several years. I'm in my mid 50's and retired last fall. I have fibromylagia and sometimes exercise is not an option. Also, I love to cook, bake and eat. I would like to lose 10 lbs by the time I have to start wearing my winter clothes. In Ohio who knows when that will be. glad to find a place to help me.

Penny Mac,

I was thinking "Winter clothes!! That's a month from now (or less!" I live in WAY upstate NY and it's already starting to get a bit chilly. I'm in long sleeves and long pants today

20 lbs! I was thinking about it yesterday and that' not too much at all. We can do it!! What is everyone's "plan of action" Are you on a specific diet?

I'm just trying to eat healthier, follow the 'five rules of diet' and work out daily. So far it seems to be working if I can stick to it. I'm fighting Post Partum Depression (after 2 miscarriages this year) and it makes it tough sometimes, but I know I can do this!!!

Will I do? I need an accountability partner. I've been asking for buddies but no luck. I have 20 to lose, but I work outside the home and I do NOT do Adkins. I'm followinf the Mediterranean plan as outlined in The Omega Diet.

I can use all the friends I can get. You can never have too many. As for a specific diet,no. My husband is diabetic so we just eat what I fix for him.

Becca I'm so sorry about your miscarriages. I will pray for you. Last week we had temps in the low 70's and today through Wed. it is supposed to be inthe 90's. But then back to the 70's. We have had a hard summer, very hot.

Michele, I never heard of that diet, we have to be careful about carbs, because of the diabetes.I think it is realy hard to lose weight when you work outside the home because you are usually working two jobs, one out side the home and at home and you run on fumes so you eat to keep going. But keep at it.

I agree ~ You can never have too many friends

Penny ~ Thanks for the prayers

I've never heard of that diet before either Michele. I'm not a carb watcher... and I hate counting calories. I don't have the time to do it actually!! So I'm just doing portion control and exercise. It works great when I stick to it....

Well, the Omega Diet is not a separate diet. It's just a book that was written about the Mediterranean Diet by a Greek doctor. The book is on Amazon, and 3 fat Chicks does have info on the Mediterranean Diet. It's just that this book has menu plans, which makes it easy for me. If I just try and follow principles I wind up forgetting my portion sizes.
I was under 1500 calories yesterday. And even though we had an Avon rep meeting last night, I brought my own supper, did NOT get fast food and did NOT get frozen yogurt before the meeting. I did buy 2 jazz CD's, though, but they have no calories or fat grams.
I'm developing an interest in classic and smooth jazz. Trying to collect the important works on jazz history ad discovering how much I like stuff that was published in the 50's and 60's - Dave Brubeck, for example, and Herb Alpert.

I have a hard time sticking w/ a meal plan. Especially since we are on such tight budget that I don't like to spend extra $ on myself just for food. I've been just following the five rules to a certain extent and watching my portions.

I lost 2 lbs this week even tho I was very bad 5 out of 7 days.

Woohoo! Here's to 19 more lbs by Christmas!!

Edited because I lost 2 lbs... not 1!!

Wow I just figured out it is 15 weeks till Christmas. but that is just a little over a lb a week, That is doable, Think of 2 1/2 glasses of water a week we have to lose. The only thing I do is follow what I fix for my husband, desserts are made fromthe Splinda cook book for diabetics and that is once a month or very special occasions.
To help with portion control, we found that we don't put food on the table, just serve out of pans on the stove and eat in the dining room, not the kitchen, I realize this is not always an option for some.
I thougt the med diet was pasta and sauce, pizza and bread sticks, now that is a diet I could handle.
One thing we did when we found Gary had diabetis, we never said diet, we just said we were going to have a life style change, and we all lost weight. Our daughter was still at home then. (She is single again and back home again and finishing her degree. She is also on three fat chicks but she is in another area)
Hay Garybearsgirl, did you have any porblems with Ophelia? We have had 3 days of 90 degrees weather and today is hot and muggy, waiting on the rain to come. We haven't mowed our yard for 3 weeks, everything is brown and dead. I need the weather to cool down, Not snow, but cool fall weather.
Well, we can do it, 20 lbs by Christmas.

Ophelia didn't come near us, Penny Mac. We are as far west as you can get and still be in Florida. Now Ivan and Dennis, those were two different stories. But I sure am with you on cool weather coming. Honestly the only thing I like about summer is the fresh fruit in season. I'm not in school anymore, so summer no longer means vacation. And it's SO HOT! It must be 90 million degrees outside!

I don't envy you living in FL!! WAY too hot for me. My best friend lives down there tho... I always feel so bad for her in the summer... and she always feels so bad for me in the winter. lol. But to be honest, I'd prefer our winters to your summers!

15 weeks?! I dunno if I can do it then. I'm not a fast looser... *sigh* We'll see. I hadn't really thought about how close Christmas was!
