I'm working on figuring out my schedule for the new semester and hoping I can fit the gym in . I am a ft graduate student and a college instructor so time is a precious commodity...
Here's where the poll comes in:
Say you have limited time on at least 3 days of the week. You can go to the gym but can only really afford to spend about 1 hour and 15 minutes there. You are really into your workout , you're energized and feeling good... but you have to get to your class!
Do you use all the time to work out and let others deal with your stench (do a quick splash in the bathroom and call it good) or take the time to shower and get presentable again ?
I'd say more sweat, but just make sure you don't stink before you go to class. Maybe bring a change of clothes in a bag and bring your deodorant and a wet wash cloth along. I would hate to sit next to someone who smelled in class, but I think you should make your exercise priority (as long as you don't smell).
(Or I agree with the below post about 45 minutes then a 30 minute shower)
Wow- it only takes me about 10-15 minutes to shower, redo hair/makeup (ponytail and lipgloss is about all I do) and be out the door, so I voted to shower.
I do an express workout at lunchtimes at work, and only have an hour, so I don't shower, I deodorise, change my clothes have a dang good wash, and disappear back to the office.
I voted shower, because I think if you rush it you can shower really quickly. How presentable do you really have to look for class? I'd say bring a shower cap with you, don't bother washing your hair, just hop in and soap up then rinse off and put on a change of clothes. If you don't touch your hair it should only take a few minutes (but then again, I don't wear makeup much).
Even if you sweat a lot, a quick sponge bath (hitting all the naughty bits) will leave you smelling fine and take very little time. And if you perspire enough to have wet hair after a workout, you'll be amazed at the body your hair has with all that salt in it! But you do have to change ALL your sweaty clothes, especially stinky underwear.
Sweat, sponge-bath, change clothes. Definitely put on deodorant. About half of the grad students where I went to school looked like they just rolled out of bed to go to class anyway.
On the nights I had class, I would use my lunch for a 30 minute run. By the time I changed into my jogging clothes, did my run, took a shower and got dressed again, there was still usually 10 minutes left to wolf down a lunch or eat it at my desk if not.
It would depend to me. If it were daily, I would do the quick shower and put the hair into a pony tail and let dry naturally and possibly forgo the makeup. But if I were going somewhere where I needed to be more presentable, I would skip the workout and do the shower, complete with hair styling, makeup, etc.
I'd work out for an hour and then spend the last 15 minutes showering and getting dressed. Maybe I'm low maintenance, but I can easily shower, dress, comb my hair & slap on some sunscreen and lipstick in 15 minutes
I have a similar situation but with less time. I leave my first job at 2pm and head straight to the gym. by the time I get there, change into gym clothes, and get on the machine, it's about 2:20, so I workout for 30 minutes, then go change into my clean uniform for job #2 (after cleaning a bit--sweat removal and deoderizing required). I keep my hair up in a ponytail so it doesn't matter if it's sweaty or not, and I splash water on my face and run my hands over my hair, so some of the wetness is just water by the time I'm done anyway. Then I head out and make it to job #2 by 3:15 so I can eat dinner and BREATH for a minute before my shift starts Definitely no time for a full shower, though, but I certainly never smell bad (believe me, the people I work with would definitely let me know if I did!).
I think you can shower if you really plan ahead. Use combo products that take less time-such as shampoo and conditioner in 1 if you feel you must wash your hair. If your hair isn't that bad and can make it until you get home-I am all for not washing it at the gym and just throwing it in a hair clip or ponytail. Don't worry about shaving or anything-just jump in and rinse off really quick with the soap. You should be able to shower and throw clothes on in 10 minutes-and then spend another 10 minutes getting all of the stuff back in your bag, and throwing on a quick dab of lip stick or a little blush-just one or two makeup products-enough to make you look presentable. If you take a maximum of 20 minutes to do all of that at the most-then you still have 55 minutes to work out.
