Question When did you start working out??

When did everyone start working out and what kind of workouts??
In an hour it will be day #4 for me. I have a treadmill in my living room staring at me and aerobics tapes out as well as a weight gym room. I keep saying I will do it but always end up saying tomorrow. I am going to start doing aerobics soon in the am then treadmill and weights at night. I am going to try and at least start doing part tomorrow and hopefully by monday getting it all in daily.

Hey Kim,

I think only light exercise is appropriate for phase 1 because a lot of people tend to feel tired and light headed for the first week or so until their body gets use to the idea of less carbs and processed foods. I'm in phase 2 and I try to do 25 min on my treadmill every day (I think any combination of exercise for around 20 to 30 min a day is good.) The book says 25 min a day every day should be great! Of course I don't always make it every day. Maybe do a combination of all you have so you don't get bored. Treadmill 2 to 3 times a week, the videos 2 times a week and the weights 2 to 3 times a week. However you feel more comfortable.

Kim, be reasonable when you begin your workouts. You can do more to discourage yourself if you jump in full throttle and over do it, waking up sore and tired the next day.

Start slowly, try walking for 15-30 minutes a day, take your son out on a walk. Or chase him around the playground or follow him when he rides his bike (do 4 year olds ride bikes yet or are they still on 3 wheelers?) . Make it something fun for the 2 of you to do together. Then you'll look forward to doing it everyday. K@T is right, you may not have a lot of energy in phase 1 for a lot of exercise.

I was walking to the bus stop and back home each day at first. It was a total of about 30 minutes all combined. I did that for several months, then I added a Pilates tape, started taking the stairs at work instead of the elevator, parking in the farthest parking space and walking fast to the store, getting off the bus one stop early and walking home farther.

Now, I run 3-4 times a week, walk 5 days (because I still take the bus) weight lift 1-2 x, pilates or some form of flexibility 1 x. The running I had to join a running club to do because I won't do it by myself, but in a club people expect to see you. I'm now an advanced beginner since I ran a 5K last month, don't get too excited-it took me 45 minutes to lug myself around 3 miles. But at least I'm doing it.

You will too eventually, as the weight comes off you'll have more energy to exercise which helps the weight come off even better and you'll feel so much better. So it's a wonderful circle.

I started P1 and 20 minutes of stationary biking at the same time. I use a varied program of hills. The bike is positioned so iI can watch TV at the same time. I also like to read while biking. 5 weeks later I am biking 30 to 60 minutes per day depending on what I'm reading or watching. At first I kept a fan on. Now I don't usually turn on the fan because I like the sweat. (weird)

When iI feel bad or too tired I make myself do the 20 minutes, but it usually ends up 30 or more minutes.

It's math. Do exercise subtract calories!!!

You should do some sort of exercise everyday, even if that means vigerous cleaning, I can work up a sweat mopping a kitchen floor! I agree with the above. Start out slow, but try and do at least twenty minutes everyday.

PS, if you feel good, go ahead and jump on the bike. Drink lots of water!

I started working out on Day 1 of Phase 1, but have been active for the past couple of years. If I don't workout i"m a major grouch, and am very cranky! I used to be a grouch if I had to workout, but now i look forward to it!!!! Weird huh?

Once step in front of the other gets ya where you want to go! Stick with it Kimberly, you'll be amazed of the progress you make in a short time.. 3-4 months ago I could only do about a mile...

I'm with Jenn, I still haven't started. Dh & I plan to go out tonight walking with the kids but he had to go do some stuff at the church first. As soon as he gets back, we're going walking. We live right in the middle of town & everyone walks up & down the sidewalks through town, so tonight we start joining them!

Nat- How was the walk? Sounds good!
I used to do aerobics first thing when I woke up but having a 4 year old running around makes it hard. Then I usually save the treadmill and weights for the night but by night time I am lazy and dont feel like doing anything =(
I will start working out on or before monday!!
Kimberly

The walk went well. Dh wasn't with us. We found a kitten & ds is the queen of rescuing strays so guess what???? We now have a new kitty. Dh was a little less than thrilled. That'll teach him not to miss another walk.
