Default Phase 2--Yogurt????

Can anyone give me some information on what kind of Yogurt you are may add in Phase 2? I went to the grocery yesterday, and ended up buying nothing, because each kind I looked at that was FF or LF also contained 6 grams or more of Sugar. Even though they say "no added sugar", the nutritional label still states "sugar".........I am so confused, and don't want to mess up.

Help!

There is no such thing as "sugar free" yogurt as lactose is in all of them (it's milk sugar). There are loads of "no sugar added" yogurts; make sure you read the ingredients.

Laura is right. Grab those yoghurts. They are made from milk, remember, and milk has carbs or sugars in the form of lactose. Carbs are converted to sugar and some labelling calls them sugar although no real sugar has been added.
Milk "sugar" is lactose and is a lower GI.
The real white killer is sucrose.

Thanks, Laura, and Ruth......

I'm anxious to try a yogurt on my Phase 2 venture.

I'll pick some up my next trip to the store. Do you usually buy

FF or LF when picking out yogurt?

Thanks again for your help.

Deets,
I buy FF/no sugar added at Walmart Super Center. It 's called Blue Bunny and has many different flavors. Sometimes, I add a few walnuts.

Hi Deets,

For some reason the yogurt varities around here are pretty limited. The best one that I've found (sugar and fat wise) is Dannon Light 'n Fit. It has 0 fat, and I think about 10-12 g of sugar, depending on the flavor. It's really good with a few blueberries or strawberries mixed in.

Let's get tstraight on the "sugar". Does it say sugar in the list of ingredients? If not it is lactose which is the sugar or carb and is OK. If it has sugar (sucrose) added, it is not allowed unless you want to use up your treat calories.

Ruth, now you've got me wondering......

The Light 'n Fit is sweetened with aspartame and fructose. I know fructose is a sugar, but from what I've read it has a much lower Glycemic Index than sucrose.

The ingredients in the vanilla flavored yogurt are: nonfat yogurt, fructose syrup, less than 1% modified corn starch, natural vanilla flavor, aspartame, potassium sorbate, citric acid, amnatto extract, caramel color.

In the nutrition facts it states Total Carbohydrate 16 g, Sugars 12 g. I was assuming that the "sugars" listed included the fructose and lactose.

Am I off base?

That's "added sugar".

I wonder why they would need to add both aspartame *and* fructose syrup (which sounds suspicously like "high-fructose corn syrup " to me).

I found the Blue Bunny mentioned above and bought a couple. It's called Lite 85. It's FF...no sugar added. Also, no sugar in the ingredients listed...sweetened with Splenda. The sugar in the Nutrition facts (which states 8 grams) is the natural lactose.
So go get some everybody.

Deets: That Blue Bunny yogurt is great. I have been using it for some time. Blue bunny also makes wonderful fudgicles sweetened with splenda. and also some creamsicle type bars sweetened with Splenda. Good for the extra treat. They come in oragne, raspberry and a combination of lemon/lime. And they also make an ice milk product, FF, no-sugar added, sweetened with Splenda. i think 1/2 cup would be an allowable treat on Phase 2. My problem is that it is so good, that I'm afraid that I would be tempted to over-do. Lizzie

Lizziepie...

I love those Blue Bunny fudgecycles and dreamcycles!! My DH and I have been having one each evening as my planned snack. Hard to believe they are FF and SF!!

If anyone else is interested, I found them @ Walmart Supercenter in the ice cream section. They are called Health Smart by Blue Bunny. They are delicious for a 60 calorie snack on Phase 2.

I have not tried that brand, mine is cheaper, but I really like Splenda so I am going to give it a try and see if it is better than my Black Cherry!
