Question Sleep Eating?!?!?!?!?!?

I've been battling a strange problem, I get up in the middle of the night.........drag my sorry butt out to the kitchen and proceed to gobble a tablespoon of peanut butter I usually don't remember it until morning when I see the lone spoon in the sink....... It could definately be worse, there are cookies, chips, brownies etc in the same cupboard but for some reason I always take just one tablespoon of peanut butter. I had thought about just getting rid of the peanut butter but fear what I might take instead!! Any tips, advice?

For the record I haven't slipped out of ketosis (keto-styx) however I have cut off any and all restrictives until I get a handle on this.

The junk food is my sons............. IP is my diet not his

I saw that they have this chocolate type spread made by WF I think? This could be a good option but you would have to be aware that you are doing it to switch...

Well, if you are still in ketosis and are only eating one spoonful... let it go. Have your one spoonful of PB a night. It might slow down the weight loss... but its not stopping it. I agree it could be allot worse.... messing with what is working in order to force more loss could blow up in your face.

I've had food/cheating dreams, but never sleep walking to the kitchen to eat episodes!! That is down right scary!!!! Maybe you should talk to your Dr. About this!! Are you having your night time protein snack? Your body needs this to sustain itself through the night while you sleep.

A handfull of thumbtacks on the floor of the kitchen ought to nip this problem in a night or two haha!!

Mousetraps are also very effective...they also work great for daughters that miss their curfew.

If you're asleep how do you know you only have one spoonful?

I have heard of this happening to people who take ambien. My friend was on it, got up at night, did things like move things around lol and ate food. She found out in the mornings. She said it happened to her sister too. The same happened to my mom. She got up in the middle of the night and got cereal. Crazy stuff. I don't know if there are any other reasons for this...

I CERTAINLY would not ignore this or let it go.

This is an actual sleep disorder. I'd go to the doctor! In the meantime, know that cheats (intentional or otherwise) DO affect the plan - but you are absolutely right, it could be something worse.

How close to bed is your nighttime protein? Have you talked to your coach about the number of packets you are having? Perhaps a change is in order. Not everyone has 3.

just some "food" for thought

A lot of good advice........... I'll try to have my protein snack closer to bedtime, maybe that'll help

I know it's only one spoonful because it was a new jar..........three nights, three single scoops so I started smoothing it over to see if I was crazy or not. Seems like my little CSI experiment worked and I caught myself but yes.......... so far one spoonful a night.

I'll try having my snack closer to bed, I was having it in the afternoon so nothing in my system since supper time

You are a pretty big guy. Maybe your body is craving a bit of fat? IP is very low fat, even at my size I had to make sure I was getting the full amount of olive oil in.
I'm in Edmonton too!

I'm afraid I don't have any great advice Big Ron, but reading your post brought back fond memories of my grandmother. She was a sleepwalker and said that she did this. Peanut butter was her weakness too. She said she would wake up and find peanut butter smeared on her face and pillow and the evidence in the kitchen. Now my son and I are prone to sleepwalking, but thankfully I don't eat in the night. I notice sleepwalking is worse when we are overly tired and not getting enough sleep. I don't know if any of this applies to you. Good luck.

I think I'm getting all my olive oil in, I use it as dressing with vinegar and a few spices on my salad......maybe I'll mention that to my coach though. A fellow Edmontonian? Awesome.......I feel even less alone in this then

For the record I had my snack just before bed last night........ and woke up to find the smoking gun (AKA Spoon) in the kitchen sink and a lone swipe removed from the peanut buter jar........ugh
