Default plateau?

Has any had episodes of plateau-ing?

I lost 8 the first week, 4 the second, 5 the third and 0 the fourth. I am not looking like I will lose anything this week either. Is my body adjusted and this is where I will stay?

Thanks.
Ann

Hi Ann, I think there is a bigger picture you need to look at. 1) Are you losing inches? 2) Have you been 100% OP? 3) Have you had any troubles with water retention (are you getting enough salt and water)? 4) Are you having any troubles with constipation? and 5) Do you have a TOM near that is messing with you? I have had a couple of smaller weight loss weeks that are tied to TOM and water retention. With that said one of them was a huge inches lost. My DH has smaller weight loss weeks but is gaining lean muscle too. I guess what I am saying is don't look at the lbs lost only...take into consideration all factors.

Your body is adjusting, and no, this is not where you will stay. Continue to follow the program and you will lose again. You may be losing inches. Do you measure?

Oh and your body can and most likely will take a deep breath once in a while before continuing on with a another big loss. Just don't get worried, frustrated or stress over it. Stress is NOT our friend.

ann- TOM = time of the month (yay aunt flo! - not)

You could be bloated for no apparent reason too, your body is still adjusting at this point and isn't going to just "sit" somewhere indefinitely, esp not this early in the program. It looks like you've lost 17 LBS so far which is AMAZING and you should be proud of that loss. Talk to your coach if you're concerned about the not losing, see if you're having too many restricteds (some people can't have any because carb sensitivity screws with them) or too many occasional veggies.

Keep on trucking and you'll get there

I think if anything, maybe I am not getting enough veggies. Would that impact my loss? I am just so full before I have 2 cups.

Yes, if you aren't eating everything and in the amounts that you are supposed to, then your body may think that you are in starvation mode and will hang onto the fat to protect itself. If you can't eat 2 cups of veggies at a time, then space out the 4 cups throughout the day.

Hi MEadow Wheeler -

You brought up something I wanted to ask about. What do people do for constipation? I think I might be since I am going no where near what I think I should be. Before starting IP I would nightly take physllium oats with watered down juice which ensured no constipation. I was curious if I could take them now with the cran-berry IP drink in the evening. Do you know if they are processed in the body like normal oats, or not since they are a fiber item.

I have been on for almost 4 weeks now and am starting to be concerned since while I am losing inches, my lbs per week is dropping. I am having my 4th WI on Tuesday and I am sure it only shows about 2 lbs lost or under. But I feel like I have also lost more inches as well. I might go do a colonic on Tuesday morning if possible to make sure I am not constipated.

Started at 338.
W1 - 328.5 12 inches lost
W2 - 322.0 3.5 inches lost
W3 - 321.0 3 inches lost

thanks,
JP

Hi JP,

I am a long time constipation sufferer, due to being hypothyroid. I am currently taking the Ideal Protein 4 calcium magnesium plus another 500 mg of magnesium for a total magnesium daily of 1500 mg. I drink 3 to 4, 32 oz, bottles of water. That combination has kept me more regular than I have EVER been. Having said that being a woman certain times of the month play havoc with that schedule and so I will drink a tea by Yogi called Get Regular as needed. It has senna in it...that works very gentle. I drink 2 cups at night before bed and in the morning I am guaranteed that things will be working like they should.

I don't know the answer on your normal method as I have never used that. I did let my coach know that my nurse practitioner had me taking magnesium and she told me to keep taking it. I also let her know about the Get Regular tea and she is totally supportive of teas.

Hope that helps!
Michelle

I agree with what meadow wheeler has said. If you can't find the yogi tea she mentioned you can also look for 'smooth move' tea.

It's really common to have a "lull" in Weightloss the 3-5th week... Your body is catching up... And I am sure someone has said this in this tread, I just skimmed to the bottom... But Hang in there... I think that we just get soooo excited about the 1st couple weeks and how much is coming off you get disappointed when a small loss comes your way... I have had many weeks with little to no loss... Including last week. I lost NOTHING...

Keep your chin up Buttercup!!

Remembering from my Atkins days,

To be a genuine plateau, the pause in weight loss must meet the following criteria:

-No weight loss or loss of inches for at least four weeks.

-You haven't altered your exercise regimen or made any other significant lifestyle change.

-You’re not taking any new medications (including hormone therapy) that may be interfering with weight loss.

-You can honestly say you’ve adhered to all aspects of the program.

I would say your body is catching up. Make sure you or your coach is taking weekly measurements too.

Make sure you get all your olive oil in. Also check that all your animal protein choices are not very low fat ( example, always chicken breast).
Yes you need to get the veggies in. Many people blend a cup of spinach into an IP chocolate or vanilla shake.
It makes it thicker and doesn't change the taste.
