Default Started Wellbutrin XL Today

Hi all,

It's been a rough road for me with anxiety and depression. First Prozac, then nothing...then prozacvagain. Then I tried Lexapro but that did not help and I gained 15 lbs. Now I just started Wellbutrin and therapy. I hope works.

I'm interested in your experience with it. Will you update us?

I was on generic Wellbutrin for about 3 weeks and LOVED it. I had to switch meds because I was having allergic reaction to it.

I'm currently on wellbutrin and I don't feel that it's helped me yet. We just upped my dosage to the highest dose to see if that makes a difference. Otherwise she's going to switch me to something else.

However, I've read a lot of success stories online about the boost that wellbutrin can give you. I'm so jealous of those stories because I wish it had been me. So you could definitely be that person that it works for.

Good luck!

Yeah, let us know how is goes. I'm jealous of people who can take it because of the lack or weight and sex related side effects. It made me a nervous wreck

I started Wellbutrin about six months ago. It's done a complete turn around for me. I can honestly say that without Wellbutrin I probably wouldn't be around today, or I at least wouldn't be around for few long.

I don't have any real side effects. I do get decreased appetite but frankly it's not enough to make me lose weight, as I typically just eat whatever's put before me, regardless of the "I'm full" button.

However, if you decrease the portion in front of you (which I'm trying to do now) it does work.

I've been on it for about a month and it seems to be helping me.

I've been on Wellbutrin XL (both generic and name brand) for about 4 years and have had success It never decreased my appetite though unfortunately! BUT I have been the 'best' of myself for a couple years now and this recent winter I have NOT had my usual horrible "I hate everything' feelings that I would get even with Wellbutrin.

I am still a bit overweight because I indulge without thinking. I have been exercising regularly for years now. I think the Wellbutrin evens things out enough for me that I don't spiral down into horrible feelings when I get a negative feeling or two..and I have the incentive to usually try to improve my health.

I did not have any side effects with it. And, I stupidly let my pills run out and couldn't get more for 10 days..so i was off them for that amount of time..and had no 'withdrawls' or bad effects.

Thumbs up

I started taking Wellbutrin XL 50 mg almost 2 years ago to see if it would help me to quit smoking, ease my seasonal affective disorder and to benefit from the associated weight loss that I heard about.
It did help me quit smoking, it made me want them less, like what was the point? It took me about a month to quit for good. Now it's been almost 2 years and I really don't miss it that much. Once I found new things to focus on when I would normally smoke, I was fine. Changing your behaviors takes a lot of time and patience because it is so much a part of the habit just as much as the body's addiction to the nicotine.

I did have a decreased appetite for a bit but that went away and any weight loss I enjoyed was shortlived. My appetite returned as my body adjusted to the medication. It does help me to be a "better me" though I know it isn't a fix all for everyone. If you take it and it helps you, then you can really benefit from it. Sometimes it does take awhile to figure out what dosage works for your body, my Dr good me to take one pill a day for a week then add another each day about 8 hours I took the first one in the morning. However, I couldn't tolerate the second pill, it made me feel awful. So I went back to just the one. I know that when I forget to take it, I feel the bad parts of me (the naggy, hypercritical, reclusive person I become in the winter) that I hate taking hold. Once I get back on track I'm better. I feel so much more focused on the Wellbutrin that it does make sticking to a healthy eating plan and sticking with an exercise regimine easier. When I'm feeling those winter blues without the help of Wellbutrin, I'd be quite happy eating out of containers delivered to my door and basically hibernating until the spring returns with the warm sun.

So this fall and winter I haven't really been focused on a good eating or exercise plan, I've just begun one. As of last Tuesday, 24 January, I started a 1200 diet with no major exercise plan yet having just had gall bladder surgery that day. I started Tuesday morning weighing 228 lbs. Today, just five days later, I am at 221 lbs.

Good luck all with your healthy eating and exercise plans!

I have been on Welbutrin now for a month or so and I cna't tell if it is working or not. It definitely has not decreased my appetite. I'm on 100mg , I know people on 300, so maybe it depends on the dosage. I'm afraid NOT to take it because I'm dealing with a lot right now in my personal life and get depressed/anxious easily. I will NEVER take any other type of SSRI , I was on paxil years ago and gained forty lbs from it...and all I wanted to do was sleep. NEVER AGAIN.
