Default Induction and weightloss

Do most people lose the big amounts (say 10lbs) on induction? I have only lost like 4 lbs...

Granted I have never made it a clean 2 weeks.(I almost made it and then I do something stupid and give in) But I have been doing induction to my best ablitly for over a month.

I am about to go on to OWL and forget the induction..

To answer your question, yes, it is possible to lose 10+ lbs during Induction. That being said, everyone is different, what works for 1 may not necessarily work for another. I also believe it depends on how much weight you have to lose. Those who have a good deal of weight to lose tend to lose quickly at the start. At least that has been the pattern I've seen.

A clean Induction is critical if you are serious about getting the weight off. Plenty of veggies & salads from the acceptable foods list, no Atkins products, lots of water, a good amount of fat. As Dr. Atkins himself said "just a little taste of this or that is the kiss of death".

All the best to you!

I've done Atkins more times than I care to admit, but I now have seen the light and I know this has to be a WOE for the rest of my life. I know I have insulin resistance and I have to stay away from bad carbs. To answer your question, yes you can lose 10 pounds. Once, I lost 12 pounds. Another time, I only lost 6. It depends on how much you weigh and also a majority of it is fluid weight during the first two weeks. After induction, you should lose at a slower weight. I lost 30 pounds the first time I did Atkins and I should have stuck with it. I was stupid and thought I could go back to my old ways which led to me to being the biggest I've ever been right now. I plan to stay at induction levels until I reach goal which will be 80 pounds lighter. I'll advance to OWL then. Good luck

Thanks girls. I don't think I am dedicated enough to do this right now. THe bad thing is... DH is doing this with me and is doing wonderful... I hate to quit and leave him behind.. Although I have broke the sugar rule more times than I can count this weekend. Cookies and birthday cake.. I just can't have the stuff in the house... I can't control myself... but how do you tell your twin 13 year olds.. sorry no bday cake this year.

So long story short.. I think I am quiting..

I know it's hard Anna, but that's the sugar addiction speaking. Once you break through that addiction it gets easier. You don't tell your kids they can't have the cake. You just don't eat it with them. I know that sounds harsh but that's how it is with me. I'm the one with the weight problem and the one how is unhealthy so I have to work on me. I don't tell my very thin 13-year-old daughter she can't have cake. I just don't eat it. There are some very great LC dessert recipes available that you can have and still stay in ketosis and lose weight. You can only do this diet or any other diet when you are mentally ready though and I do understand the mental aspect of this and also the sugar addiction. We are here for you if you decide to do it. :hugs:

The first few days are the hardest...once you get through that, you'll find your cravings have gone. You still have to be careful though, one little taste can trigger a binge (like it has done with me in the past). Yesterday i took my son to a bday party and was offered cake...it was great not even having the urge to say yes. I ate a couple boiled hotdogs and snacked on a veggie platter. As soon as you see the scales creep down and your belt loosening and people you haven't seen in 3 weeks telling you that you look like you have lost weight, you get another addiction.

I am a carb addict, and always will be. This has been the only way of eating that rids me of my cravings and those moments during the day when you feel "ravenous" and need something sweet NOW!

Of course, starting this is easier said than done. I've been off and on and noticed that if I'm not ready mentally, it's useless to try. I have to be ready to start. Perhaps right now isn't the right time for you to start. As soon as you are ready mentally, start. You'll be amazed at how easy it gets. I've tried LA Weightloss, tried following my wife's Weight Watchers plan, etc. This is by far the easiest, and most effective method I have tried.

As Violet said, as soon as you're ready, the support is here! Good luck with whatever you decide.

When I originally did Induction I stayed on it for ten months but I had a LOT of weight to lose back then. I lost 50 pounds in that 10 months so I averaged 1 pound a week, which was not bad but I wish it had been higher.

A few years before trying Atkins I was on Deal-A-Meal for a month (Richard Simmons diet plan) and lost 27 pounds that month. Go figure.

Anna, getting past those 1st 3 to 5 days is a little tricky. But you can do this!
Planning can be so crucial here. Don't set yourself up for failure. Plan out everything you're going to eat for the 3 to 5 days on initial Induction. Forget about the scales during this time. Eat enough protein right now to be really satied. Eat that salad everyday AND drink lots of water. When I am past that initial phase and I start craving something, anything...I look for a protein snack like cream cheese or summer sausage, cheese rolled up with a ham slice, ect. Anything like that really comes through for me. I drink some water with it and sure enough, I get right back in control. And you know you're IN CONTROL when you can pass on something delicious and scrumptious and not feel deprived Hang in there. You're going to make it. And remember...We only fail when we fail to keep trying

Yeah, what they said! You can do this Anna!! Resisting the treats has always been tough for me. I did Atkins years back and I remember the sugar thing was always the hardest, but I always kept a 'semi legal' backup for the times that I know I would be thrown into temptation! I used to take a block of cream cheese, whip it up with some Torani and a splash of heavy cream and store it in the fridge--any time I felt the urge, I would eat a spoonful. The first couple weeks, it was a tablespoon 3-4 times a day(which I know was too much, but it didn't do any damage at the time)...but after a while, it became a teaspoon maybe once or twice a day. I never thought I would be able to say no to sweets...this really satisfied me. Of course, I was foolish the first time in thinking that I could lose the weight and jump right back into eating the junk food as long as I kept the portions way down.....Bzzzt!! Wrong answer!! Looking back, I knew I could have stayed the course and made Atkins my way of life...so this time around, it's with more determination and creativity!

I'm doing this with my boyfriend too, so having someone to support you is great--and supporting him will also help you!

There will be many times where there are sweets and snacks available to you--learning to resist can take a little time, but trust me....once you find something to be your "go-to" treat, it will be much easier for you to say no, and stay the course! I sure hope you give it another chance!!
