Default Little bummed

I just got back from my meeting and I am a but bummed. I lost 1.8. I know, it's great! It's 1.8! But I was hoping to see a 2 in the front. I worked out 5 days this week, earned 38 AP. I used 16 of my weekly points (which I haven't really done before). My average points used during the week was 48.4 (allowed 49).

I know I should be ecstatic, but I am just a bit bummed. At least it wasn't a .8 or a gain!

Could the exercise be slowing the loss, since I am (most likely) gaining muscle?

I have a couple other questions that I'll post separately this afternoon. Thanks for listening!

Hi Melissa, I'm sorry you had a disappointing weigh-in! As you go along, you'll see that 1.8 pounds add up and up, and you'll get happier with it.

You are not gaining muscle at this point - that takes a while. But you might be retaining water from using those muscles. That's common at first, and it happens a lot with weight training as well. There are so many things that can affect the scale, like the amount of sodium, fiber and carbohydrates eaten recently, to regular potty trips or extra caffeine. You'll probably have a fantastic weigh in next week when it balances out!

1.8 is AWESOME!!! I used to think the same way, if I had lost 1 single pound I'd be hard on myself because I felt I deserved to lose more. My thinking has changed about my weekly losses/gains and exercise and yours will too!

Keep up all the awesome work you're doing!!

Way to go! 1.8 is awesome! WW doesn't really promote losing more than 2 pounds because that would mean you aren't eating enough calories to maintain your body and muscle mass. If you cut back too far on calories (meaning you would eat a lot less points), then you would lose a lot more weight, but also muscle! Fast weight loss is not sustainable. When you only lose 1-2 pounds a week, your body has time to adjust and also, you are losing FAT instead of muscle or bone So it is good news!!!

Keep going, it will add up fast for you at this rate!

I lost .8 this week as you mentioned and i'm actually happy, those lbs. add up overtime. Losing 1.8 is a big loss. It may catch up with you next week from all your hard work last week. Patience. I know how you feel, i've been bummed after small losses but they do add up.

Thanks guys. I *know* I should be happy about, and I am... I guess I just worked out so hard this week, I figured it would have amounted to a higher number. Maybe next week will be better. I just cannot let myself get discouraged, which happens easily. That's why I posted, just to know I am on track. Thanks again!

1.8 is awesome. And as you'll see, the hard work (or slacking off) that you do in a week isn't necessarily going to appear at the next weigh in. Our habits can take time to catch up to us.

There will be weeks when you've done "so good" and the scale won't show. And other weeks when you've been "bad" and the scale will go down.

Just keep your eye on the long term trends.

I'm right there with you. I weighed in tonight and lost 'only' half a pound. At first I was a little disappointed too but then I looked at my average weight loss (which is in the expected, realistic range) and now I feel good about it. A loss is a loss, after all.
It's a new week and all we can do is move forward.

I am exactly the same way.... in my head I know 1.8lb is a great loss, but sometimes on weigh-in day in my heart I forget and get a little disappointed.

One thing that has helped me be less disappointed about smaller losses has been to track my weight everyday. Whenever I think I am doing poorly, its always nice to go back to the prior week to see how my weight has changed from day to day.

woo-hoo, melissa!!! 1.8 is awesome--you GO girl, it's a significant loss!!! i could have written your post word for word at my most recent weigh-in. i lost 1.4, and i felt like crying as i had hit the gym almost every day, hit my daily goals (both points-wise and healthy-guidelines-wise) and i thought i'd have a bigger number. the weight watcher's lady weighing me in further ticked me off by saying (when i was on the verge of tears), "did you stick to plan?" argh, i almost let my sailor-mouth go. as my sister reminded me, the number may not be what you had hoped, but be proud knowing that you consistently made good choices and gave it your best. the numbers will all come eventually.

many congrats on your 1.8--hope you're feeling better!

Just remember it adds up quickly
My weekly goal is 1 lbs, that way I'm super happy when I loose more and not so bummed when I loose less.

I would gladly trade my weekly loss (eating an average of 1100 calories a day and following the program very carefully) for your 1.8 pound loss. That is what I have when I have an exceptionally good week.

I know it is disappointing to have a loss smaller than you think it will be. I've had that recently myself. BUT...1.8 pounds is terrific and if you averaged that it would not take significantly longer to get to goal than it will to get to goal at 2 pounds a week.
