Default Help! need to loose 30# but how?

well this is my alltime high 181 # I REALLY need to lose weight I think I would feel so much better if I lost 30# but honestly I dont know where to start or what plan to use that i would stick with. I am a shift worker and work 2-3 shifts per week so that really doesnt help matters much. I usually feel exhausted after an 11-7 shift and try to eat breakfast foods during the night. I never feel like exercizing because i am always tired. during the summer i used to take walks with my puppies but now that its winter and the weather is awful i dont. i've done weight watchers before, but really dont want to pay for a plan, i did that before and didnt use it just wasted money. i know i need life style changes, but how???

Littlegg.

I'm new here so I think everyone has to find something that works for them. My plan is to make better choices (food wise) e.g. no candy snacking ( I limit myself to 5 Hershey kisses per day (dark chocolate). I eat whole grain bread instead of processed white bread. more fruits & veggies and if I eat a cookie I don't beat myself up, I just don't eat the whole bag of cookies.

The other thing I've started is exercising, my philosophy here is MOVE MORE. At first I would just stand up during a commercial and walk in place, move my arms etc. I now do videos, (I don't like the gym, never have)

What I think has to happen is YOU need to be ready mentally, then you do something, make a plan, if it doesn't work, change it until you find something that works for you.

My basic philosophy is MOVE MORE, EAT LESS (of course eat less is more like making better choices). I still have chocolate and an occasional snack. I don't want my body to think it's never going to have goodies again and then when I reach goal it won't be a shock to my body when it has a snack.

Also I just joined an Easter challenge. I think it's called Egg-cellence something or other, you should be able to find it under the 100 lb club. It just started and will end easter

Good luck, maybe I'll see you in the challenge

Hello! Good luck to you on your new endeavor! I gave picked up a copy of Jorge Cruise's Belly Fat Cure at Sam's Club in late February of this year and I've lost over 40 lbs. Give it a try!

I travel all the time for work, eat out a lot, and am studying for the CPA exam which doesn't give me a lot of time. I've managed to lose entirely without an exercise regimen. In the last month I've had a bit more time and have started doing Jillian Michael's 30 day shred for toning purposes.

Jorge's book is the best $12 I've ever spent.

Good luck!

I started at 185 & now weigh 150. I use calorie counting (approx 1200/day). I also avoid white stuff - e.g., white bread, rice, pasta, potatoes, and sweets. I also eat something every 4 hours (low-cal yogurt, 1/2 piece of fruit, cheese stick).

For evening snacks, I use SF puddings w SF Cool Whip.

I also exercise - mostly walking - some bike & weights.

Lynn

Hi littlegg, I am following the Old WW which I have done for yonks so I know it off by heart but being diabetic I have to also watch my carbs so I have really turned it into a calorie and carbs counting diet.
With a calorie count you can plan your meals ahead when you have a time that you are at your best. Make meals that you can put into measured portions in the freezer for the times that you come home from a late shift, for example a cottage pie or lasagne. Then a portion of frozen veg put in the microwave to add to it to make a nice rounded meal.
DO hope you manage to find a way to keep up the good work, you will feel soo much better for it. GO TO IT!!

Hi littlegg... I am new too, and hoping to lose 30#. I am going to start making better food and portion choices, and I intend to get moving. Good luck and Happy New Year!

Sometimes we feel that we need a "plan" to lose weight, such as WW (which is great), South Beach, Atkins, or whatever - but that's not really necessary. I've done what some others have suggested and am seeing the weight come off almost painlessly. Avoid all the white stuff: bread, rice, potatoes, sugar, etc. including cookies, cakes, and the like. You will crave the sugar for about a week, then it goes away - promise! I've been eating lean protein and many more fruits and vegetables, especially raw, which fill you up quickly. Homemade bean soup with ff refried beans, 1/2 cup salsa, 3 kinds of beans, and a little ff broth makes a very filling lunch with a salad and ff dressing. I'm not even hungry when I eat these fiber-filled choices. Give it a try and good luck!

Hi. I'm another calorie counter that just decided to eat "healthy". The way I intend to eat the rest of my life. I've been on thousands of diets. And, you know, they work great. For awhile. and then I get tired of being deprived and I go back to my old eating ways. This time I decided to try something new and it's working. Like some of the others, I eliminated the simple carbs. More fruit and especially vegetables. And I have snacks and sweets too. Occasionally. small servings. Exercise is great and it gets to be a habit. Mostly because it makes you feel so much better. Think about adding weights. Great for upper body strength. And gives you those great toned arms. Little things matter too. Park in the back of the parking lot. Take the stairs. Do counter push up's or squats while you're waiting for somthing on the stove.

Good luck. You can do this. Come visit us on Golden Girls. Support matters too, and you get lots of good ideas and support there.
