Default Feathers for fitness, care to log your movement and exercise here?

I like reading the exercise threads in the Maintainers forum and I've been thinking it'd be nice to have one for Feathers.

Anyone interested in seeing what others are doing to feel better, enjoy themselves, and let go of those last pounds?

Mine today:

Walking, 50 minutes. (20 slow-ish, 20 brisk, 10 cool down)
Callanetics and stretching, 1 hour.

May dance a bit or try some of the things at Yogatic later.

I try to do something for strength, flexibilty, endurance and just-for-fun each day.

I wish you all much delight in moving around.

Looks like you have a good exercise plan going!

I am doing 40 minutes of cardio (20 minutes jogging, 10 minutes running, 10 minutes on the stairmaster) and stretching before and after. I try to do this 6times a week and have the 7th day for my muscles to rest.

I hear weight training is so important. I still havent snapped out of that fear of getting bulky! I think after getting into the grind of my current routine, I will add in some weight training

Thanks to a few people here, I have really tried pushing myself to run more. And it feels great!

Have a great day!

Today I ran nine miles and did full-body weight lifting for four hours. And it's not even 11:00 a.m. I have the whole day ahead of me.

I have been lifting heavy for 20 years. YOU WILL NOT BULK UP!!!! I'm not even close to being bulky. It just isn't in our genetic makeup.

As for running, I see you use a stair machine. Honestly I used to run no more than two miles. I just wasn't able to become a real runner. I stopped and instead I started using the StairMaster StepMill. I used it three times a week for a year. After that, I ran seven miles in under an hour on the very first day I tried running. The next day I ran eight miles in under an hour. Running is so easy now. I cannot believe what a difference the stair machine made.

Great idea! I'm in

Since it's the morning I'll just share what I did yesterday...

- Biked to work (about 3 miles, pretty flat - 20-25 minutes)
- Biked to the gym (about 2 miles back towards home)
- 15 minutes of HIIT on elliptical - it was hard!! I haven't been pushing it as much as I should, but I did yesterday. Phew.
- Worked out arms and abs at the gym - added one more rep of 10 bicep curls to my free weight routine, and 5 more lateral arm lifts. Phew.
- Biked home (about 1 mile)

Then I took a shower and made meatloaf with brown rice for dinner. Long day but I'm proud of myself!

Congrats on being able to run so much! That is amazing. I cant even imagine walking/jogging 8 miles, nonetheless running!!

That is really strange you say that about stairmasters! I have noticed ever since doing the stairmaster, my endurance for running has gone up. I am not kidding, two minutes of running straight was a succcess for me. Now I can do 10 minutes non stop. It probably sounds silly to runners becuase they can run hours but this small victory shows me that you CAN build up your stamina no matter how impossible it seems.

The only reason I am so scared of bulking up is becuase I already have a lot of muscle (under my fat of course) from cheerleading. Then on top of that, I started doing cardio for a few weeks and GAINED muscle. I could be paranoid but I feel like I gain muscle pretty easy.

What types of weights do you do? I feel I am rather uneducated when it comes to weight training!

I LOVE to bike. I am so jealous you get to bike to work

Meatloaf and brown rice? Sounds like my kind of dinner. Do you have any good recipes for a healthy, low calories meatloaf? Meatloaf and ketchup; yummm!

Walked (4mph--15 minutes each mile) for 3.4 miles with a .3 mile sprint and a .1 mile sprint in there, then 15 minutes of intermediate pilates, focusing on leg muscles today.

I walk every day to and from work (aprox 3 miles) and do Weight training DVD's 3X a week.
I walk on Sundays one hour at the local park, that is pretty much all I do. Something that I can mantain in the long run

Definitely. I use this recipe from one of my go-to cookbooks: http://books.google.com/books?id=zbL...20you&pg=PA213 . It's totally delicious! Ten minute brown rice goes on the stove when the meatloaf is about 2/3 done, and then it's all finished at the same time.

I make the 4-servings size, then cut it into quarters and I have enough leftovers for three more days!

I ran/walked for 30 minutes (Couch to 5K program).
Then, I tried Zumba for the first time! It was a 60 minutes class and was a blast. According to my HR monitor, I burned 790 calories?! I knocked off 90 and called it an even 700. My average HR was 174. My max was 187. Not bad and it was fun.

Genetjen,

What is Zumba and is your HR monitor correct? I want to get one of those! I am always curious as to how much I am actually burning! Also, I want to find a class I can take about 3x a week that burns more calories than what I normally do. I think I am averaging about 300 calories in my workouts. I would like to burn more considering the amount of carbs I am consuming. I would like to burn off some of that energy!

Well I biked and went to the gym again yesterday, but I think I might have overdone it a little because this morning when I woke up my left leg was hurting pretty badly. I opted to drive to work today so I wouldn't hurt myself on the bike... so today I'm taking a day off from working out just to be safe. I guess I'm not ready yet to be biking AND hitting the gym daily...

Zumba's an aerobic, latin-inspired dance class. Fast-paced, you never stop moving. I like to think my HR monitor is pretty accurate (It's a Polar F6), but I've never burned so many calories inside of one hour. It's based on HR and weight, and my HR was definitely up there the whole time! I usually knock off about 75 per hour to account for my BMR, so I'm hopefully underestimating most of the time. In this case, I took it from 792 to an even 700 which still seems high.
