Default Measurements Woe

I last took my measurements on March 1st when I weighed about 15 lbs more than I do today (I maintained for a month and a half before starting to lose again somewhere in there). I don't know if I'm not doing this right or what, but my measurements are only about half an inch less in the waist and hips only (bust not moving). Am I just doing this wrong or is this actually possible?

The thing that makes me think I'm doing it wrong is that I'm a different pant and dress size than I was 15 pounds ago. Also, clothing fits me differently than it did even 5 lbs ago. So that would mean I lost inches, right?

I've lost 40 lbs and I've gone from about an 18 to a 12. When will I start seeing 10s and 8s in there? It won't need to lose another 40 lbs to get there, will I?

I'd think that 10 more pounds will definitely get you into 10's. But it all depends on body shape I guess. When I am looking to go down a size I look for things that are geared towards my shape (pear-ish shape, hips 10" more than my waist, and an ample posterior)...I look for jeans that come right below the belly button and that have a bit of stretch. (although it's possible you already know all of this). I LOVE the way Levi's are cut...whereas I'd be wearing 2 sizes bigger at Old Navy. Shop around, and good luck!

Ahhhh, here now. You will definitely not have to lose another 40 lbs to drop down a few sizes!

For myself, the number on the scale, and the inches lost are not linear. Weight lost, and measurements don't always correlate perfectly... in fact, between 155 and 140ish, I lose SHOCKING numbers inches-wise. However, from 176 to 160ish, the difference was barely noticeable in my measurements at all!

x number of lbs does not always equal x inches lost. It all depends on where you are in your weight loss journey.

Chances are, you'll start hitting a point where every pound lost in these lower numbers results in your body looking drastically different compared to pounds lost in the higher digits.

Keep working away, and the inches lost will eventually start to create a dramatic, noticeable and motivating difference! Good luck, honey!

Thanks guys. I am just feeling frustrated. I think I won't really notice a huge difference in the way I look until I get to a healthy BMI -- about 13 lbs from now. Thanks for the support!

I've had the same problems before, but I think that sometimes we are inconsistent in where we take our measurements. Is there someone you would feel comfortable taking them for you so that you could be more consistant? Just a thought...
