I'm so sorry! Hang in there. I read a magazine article once that said something like "some days are weight loss days and some days are maintenance days". You might have more maintenance days that weight loss days in the next couple weeks. But take care of yourself by eating healthy, exercising (to reduce stress) and get enough sleep. And when things calm down, then focus on the weight loss again. Just my opinion. You will get through it, I promise.

One thing I know - whether or not you get laid off you do have a choice of how you take care of yourself!

Yes, I have been there. It was 15 years ago - I was told on my birthday that I would have my job for two more weeks. I wasn't alone - our department lost half of our people! My boss cried, she felt bad. I was numb.

After I got over the shock it was just "put one foot in front of the other." Left foot - right foot. I got through it. I actually found myself in a much better situation after the whole thing was over.

Please let us know how things go. Hang in there!!

Plan plan plan!

Write down every meal and make sure you stick to it. My WW leader emphasises how important it is to plan especially when it comes to stressful times. I know you will have the occasional time when you'll be like man I dont want that for dinner tonight but if you mostly stick it to it shouldnt affect your weight loss too much.

Gutted to hear about the job hun. Keep your head up xx

So sorry to hear that your job may end. I've been there and it was very devastating for me.
All I can say is that even if you do become unemployed, you still need to make your health and weight loss goals your first priority. You may have more time to really focus on your weight loss if you become unemployed. That is what I did and it worked for me (19 pounds gone and more to come) Good luck!

When I was laid off three years ago, I spent three months freaking out that I was going to lose my house. All my friends were married and had another income - and health insurance. Take care of yourself however you can. I think if someone told that my weight loss was my first priority at that time, I would have decked them. If it makes you feel better and gives order to your life, then great. If not, we'll still be here for you.

I´m sorry this is happening to you...

Last November, I was living in the US, had a boyfriend in Europe and family in Latin America... all pieces of my life that I had one time or another to leave behind to move around for the company I was working for,,, and after 6 years working for that company, they give me the boot...

Suddenly I saw myself alone, and having to decide what to do next, look for a job in a country where I had a great life, and could make a lot more money, but wasn´t really happy. Move for a guy I wasn´t really sure really loved me, or that we were the right person for each other. Or go back to be close to family, where I always felt really loved, but to have a life in a society that imposes/expects a way of life completly different from what I want for me...

Needless to say, I was a wreck. But the one thing that I could do for me, that I had control over at that moment, was how I ate and exercised... and that kept me happy, despite all caos in my life at that moment. I was happy because I was treating me well, I was being nice to my body, I was really taking care of me.

It will all work out! And you will feel much better and happier if you continue to take care of yourself, even while you´re in limbo! It will also give you more confidence in finding a new job!!

I have never been laid off, but I did spend a long time unable to find a job after we moved to Arkansas (hubby is air force). I kept reminding myself that the more I lost weight and the healthier I got the easier it would be for me to get a job. I'm a teacher, so I was able to add to it that once I got a job I would be a better example for my kids. Just think of things like that to help keep you going.

I've been going through similar stress lately, and it SUCKS!

I'm not being threatened to be laid off, but I'm having a variety of problems with my job, and I have done two interviews for new jobs in the past week, i

In my field, changing jobs usually means relocating-- a problem because I have a house, school-aged kids, and a DH with a job here. On the other hand, we need my income, in fact, I earn more than DH.

So, I've been feeling very stressed, confused, and pulled in different directions.

BUT and here's the big but, I have not changed anything about my eating. The only effect of all this on my eating is that I missed several workouts last week.

I STRESS ATE for YEARS. I stress ate myself up to 295 lbs, and it never helped. In fact, it was almost like I was pasting my stress out there, on the outside of my body, for everyone to see.

Hanging on to my plan helps me feel in control. It helps me feel LESS STRESSED.

You WILL find a new job, and things will work out, but you will be WAY WORSE OFF if you let go of the healthful changes that will help you get through this.

Awesome!!!

About the job.. it seems to be the going trend, we can't let it get us all down. I know I keep hearing on the news that the economy is on the rise, but I know in my area we aren't seeing it. Every time it gets you down hit that stairmaster

Default Take control of the situation now!

Plan, plan, plan. If you are certain it is going to happen, plan for that eventualilty now. I am speaking from experience, I got fired last year and knew it was coming as my boss and I were not compatible at all. I didn't plan ahead and when it happened I was floored. I went completely off plan and gained 40 lbs!!

If I could do it over again and what I'd suggest you do...I'd take the stressful time as a planned maintenance. If you know that you are going to be stressed and not super able to adhere to a weight-loss plan, then at least plan to maintain until your life stabilizes. Keep weighing yourself, make the healthiest choices possible and maybe even plan in some times of big eating but don't just let it happen without being mindful of it.

Definitely don't give up or throw in the towel completely like I did. It was f***ing ridiculous. I had lost about 25 lbs, got fired and then gained 40 in my "Oh my life sucks, I'm so outta control mode".

Some people find solace in structure. If your life has gone to **** in a hand basket you can at least control what you put in your mouth. Best of luck to you! Also, if you are sure you are getting laid off, start looking now. I knew I was getting fired yet didn't begin my job search until it was a done deal. I was able to find something within a month but could have had something lined up if I had been proactive.
