Angry Nighttime snacking..

Hey guys!

So I'm hoping someone on here can relate and help me out with some tips/tricks...I find myself hungry at night and wanting to eat. Sometimes I will and it'll be cereal or cookies or something! I try to stop myself and most of the time I'm good with it but then there are days that I just cave lol. I do stay up late sometimes, especially during exams (like now) so I am up longer, therefore giving me more opportunity to eat...

What have you guys done to just RESTRAIN yourself from this habit? Any help would be greatly appreciated

I do that, too. It's horrible, but it helps to take a minute and focus on the scale in the morning. Is eating something at night worth seeing an extra .2 or .4 in the morning? That usually helps me.

If not, I just gulp water until I'm not hungry anymore.

But the water tastes so..flavourless lol and usually my mouth wants flavour!
I love water, and I usually have no problem getting in the recommended 8 glasses but sometimes, it's just plain..

OMG you are so like me!!!

I usually have cravings at night and it's usually something sweet. What I do to help myself not to succumb is

1. I have an unwritten rule that nothing eatable enters my stomach after 11 o' clock in the evening when I am at home.

2. I do eat a fruit whe I have the sugar-cravings turning me crazy. Or some pecans.

I also have a lot of food cravings when I am writing or have lots of work to do. I heard that while chewing, your minds is put at ease and relaxes and that is why most people like to eat when they work. What I do is that I bought sugar-free chewing gum. It is a good trick for me to chew but not intaking calories really.

Oh gosh... I hear you. The only two tricks I have in my bag are

1. Water Water Water, Diet Coke, Crystal light... you get the picture.

2. Air popped popcorn. You can have a TON for like 100 calories. I also get the packaged kettle variety (because it's sweet) and that usually kicks the urge to get all snacky.

I was the same way when I was in school. I found that hot tea did the trick...or gume. I would also try to think ahead..so if i knew i was going to have to pull and all nighter, i'd leave some calories from earlier in the day and use them while studying. Of course use them wisely....the popcorn, almonds, string cheese...you get the point.

I know, I know, I actually hate water without Crystal Light or something in it, but I force myself to drink it and it usually works really well.

I also use ValRock's popcorn tactic but with fat-free 100-calorie bags. That usually gets rid of the snack monster.

I'm a night eater too, so I just tend to save my snacks and dinner calories until the evening. That way I can snack before bed but not worry about going outside my calories. I literally can't sleep if I don't feel full, it's crazy. I also chug water all day long, which keeps me less hungry overall (I use propel packets to make it less boring).

I make a cup of green tea and sip it! It's great for you and actually helps with weight loss.

Yea a cup of herbal tea is great! So sweet and if you make it really hot it takes ages to drink so you'll feel more satisfied

Honestly, I just brush my teeth. I hate how toothpaste effects the taste of everything, and it's kind of a done deal once my teeth are clean. I'm too lazy to brush my teeth again if I eat something so I just don't eat.

Also I have tummy issues so if I eat late, I have to pay the price.

And a nice cup of tea does the trick too.

I hear you on that battle. Last night, after eating well all day, I ate 3 cadbury cream eggs, 2 mini PB cups, 2 handfulls of peanut m&ms, and a bowl of ice cream.

I just don't know what to do with myself when I get into that cycle. For me, it isn't really about hunger, just an uncontrollable desire to snack. Well, I know it is controllable, but I can't seem to do it.

I do do well with the portion controlled microwave popcorn bags and just having two or four m&m's to satisfy the sweet tooth. But this is on days when I feel in control. I ALWAYS save calories for this purpose.

Sorry, this was probably more discouragement then help, but I guess I am hoping to find some help too. And to let you know you aren't the only one out there who feels the need for night eating.

Best wishes to you!

My plan involves having 5 small meals a day plus one "normal" sized meal, so I make sure to save my last small meal for the late evening for an hour or two before going to bed. Is there any way you can save up some calories for a snack?

Otherwise, I like the toothpaste trick. I know when I brush my teeth for the night, the door is pretty much shut to food and I don't usually think about it after that.
