Post SBD Newbie looking for a WL Buddy/Support

Hi Everyone! My name is Tricia and I am starting phase 1 of the SBD tomorrow (jumping from WW to SBD). I am a little nervous because the recipes in the book are so involved and you seem to have to be constantly cooking/buying new things. I am more of a cook a few times a week and eat the leftovers until they are gone type of person. I am single so I don't need to cook much. Does anyone have any ideas on simple foods that I can make and have a few days in a row? Ive alreay prepared lean sirloin burgers and salad for work tomorrow. I am going to post my menu I have written out and if anyone could look it over and critique it I would really appreciate it!

Breakfast- 2 eggs cooked in olive oil, green pepper, onion (sauteed); 1/2 cup grape tomatoes
Snack- FF yogurt; green pepper (1/2 cup)
Lunch- Grilled sirloin burger, salad with lemon juice dressing
Snack- 15 almonds; 1/2 cup cucumber
Dinner- Grilled chicken breast; 2 cups mashed cauliflower
Activity- 20 mins Zumba

Any suggestions?! Thanks!

Welcome! I am not a menu expert but what you have so far looks great! I think you will find a lot of easier recipes here on the boards and lots of support!

, Tricia! I moved your post into the regular part of our forum so more of our Beachers can see it and welcome you.

You may notice that many of us do our cooking ahead of time so we'll have our lunches and suppers all ready for the week, so your plan will work fine. It's true that the SBD requires a lot of food prep and planning, but that's the key for a success on this plan, and if you do it all on a weekend or whenever you have time, you'll be prepared for the week.

Your menu looks fine, but you may want to consider including some beans, as they help keep you satisfied and are full of protein and fiber and really help keep you balanced. Make sure you are getting in enough dairy each day, too. Check out our recipes section for lots of fast and easy ideas for some yummy meals. The most popular recipes are stickied at the top of the page.

Good luck, and we hope to hear from you often!

Welcome Tricia!

There are so many great recipes here, you'll want to take some time to check them out. My favorite quick and easy ones are:

refried bean soup (I cut this recipe in half)
taco bake
deep dish italian pie
salsa baked chicken

Welcome, Tricia! Great job planning ahead! As others have said, the recipe portion of the forum is truly fantastic. You will get loads of great ideas there.

What is Zumba?

Tricia!

All the girls are right - cut some of the recipes in half or, make it as is and have lots of leftovers!! There is a lot of cooking and prep but SB will turn you into a prepper Good luck. We're here for support.

(and yes, beans will also fill you up like whoa!)

Hi Tricia and

I was never able to follow the menus from the books. To me, they were designed so that people could see the great diversity of foods one could eat OP. I thought it was much easier to make my own menus and after awhile it gets much easier to plan ahead.

Best wishes!

Welcome CoffeeBean. Nice to meet you.

I hardly followed the books recipes. But there are many great ones on here that I make a lot. Read through and plan things out - planning ahead is key. And I make extra with the express idea of leftovers for lunch.

And read the thread about "what's for dinner." Lots of great ideas there... but pay attention to which phase they are.

Welcome! I never followed the meal plan in the book either. Essentially I make sure I get 2 cups non fat or lf dairy, 1/c cup beans, 4.5 cups veggies each day plus water and anything else is extra. Frankly, I don't monitor fat as much as I probably should, but I"m still losing and I don't really overload on the fat even without monitoring. You'll do well on this plan. You can really prepare stuff you'd like to eat anyway on it.

WOW you guys are wonderful! I really appreciate the support and speedy replies! I feel really encouraged to keep going now that I know that you all made your own menues and variations. I don't think I could follow the books suggestions as it looks SO expensive and tedius! I am doing well so far today. I am going to go grocery shopping on my lunch break today and stock up on some esstentials. Im not too hungry but I definitely feel weird not eating carbs or sugary things like I did on WW. I will post more tonight. Thanks again, guys!

My go-to easy meals always last me several days. I like chili (lots of beans, diced tomatoes, onions, 93% ground turkey). I also take 3-4 chicken breasts, one onion sliced, lots of mushrooms, zucchini, grape tomatoes, or any other veggies you like, cook in 2 Tbs of olive oil and voila! You've got a lovely meal that you can eat over several days. I also love the Taco Bake recipe. There are so many fantastic recipes listed in the Recipe section of this forum. Take time to look through the Phase I ones. I'm sure you'll find some to your liking.

Tricia! Sounds like you've gotten some great advice from our wonderful Beachies! :

Kara, Zumba is a latin-dance style aerobics class. Think Jazzercise, but spicier!
