Get thee to a grocery store and load up! Honestly, you are going to have a hard time unless you have lots of phase 1 stuff to choose from. Get lots of fresh vegs and bagged salad stuff and maybe some turkey etc..and definately beans!! Have stuff around that you can throw together FAST when you feel the munchies coming on. Hard boiled eggs are also great to have around...the protein will take the edge off.

beans (rinsed) are fine
a serving is 1/3-1/2 cup

no corn not even really in phase 2 (well I do splurge on good corn on the cob in the summer)

Until your book comes in, it would be prudent for you to read the list of Phase 1 appropriate foods. Here is the link:

Make some of the soups from the book -- filling, delicious, and low in calories.

Cajun!

Forgive me, but this is a big pet peeve of mine. Hon, how can you start this diet before you've read the book? Do yourself a HUGE favor and just try to eat as healthy as you can until
  • your book arrives
  • you've read it
  • and you stock up your house with Phase 1 food (and get rid of the things that aren't SBD-friendly on any phase!!!).
Until you do those things, you're just setting yourself up for failure and feeling like you have tried another diet that didn't work. You know what I mean? This plan is AWESOME, but you need to understand how it works before you can work it.

Beans are allowed on all phases and especially encouraged during Phase 1 to keep you "regular," if you know what I mean...

Default So sorry!

So sorry to offend anyone. I am just desperate to get back to eating right again. I am very down about myself right now!!!!

It really helps me to start something new to really get me motivated. People at work decided to start a weight competition yesterday, so I decided to enter and wanted to start something then. I just thought that maybe I could get some advice and try to begin it, knowing that I may not be following it correctly. I apologize and will wait until I get the book to find out the information. Thanks.

I didn’t start reading the book before I started the diet. I kind of found SBD because of my search for eating low GI and then realized that what I was trying to do on my own was actually the SBD. Talk about backing into something.

Check out the link that Zeff has listed above, that will get you rolling with the Phase I, which is the detox stage. That lasts 2 weeks and by then your book should be in and you can play catch up. The really important thing about the book is it explains how your body works and why we follow the diet. The book is such a good resource. First I took it out at the library and then I purchased a copy. I’ve almost always have it with me to reference. Just remember, measuring is not important but eating the correct foods is very important. The first 2 weeks is all about getting the cravings out of your system and not about loosing weight. The weight loss phase will be in phase 2 and that is very slow.

Also, plan, plan, plan. Having your meals planned and your groceries in the house is going to help you to stick to it.

Good Luck.

EofAZ - Thank you so much for your support and advice!!!

I was ready to quit!!! Yesterday, I felt tired and hungry. I went shopping last night and was able to eat more today. Today I had a bad sugar w/drawal headache ,so I must be doing something right.

I appreciate your advice. Maybe I will continue researching through the internet and reading the threads to stay informed until my book comes in. One day at a time!

This website has helped me more than the book ever did. I was basically confused after reading it, especially with the fancy menus in it. I understood the chemistry of it. I just didn't know how to apply it or how to structure my menu until I came here. I honestly don't think I would have been as successful without 3FC SB forum.
