Talking Trying to Low Carb the Candian Way

Hi to All!!

I am new to this board and need some help .. I recently posted on the Buddy Up! board. I just can't seem to get the hang of Low Carbing .. I think what I need to do is find some meal plans or something where someone tells me what to do .. I have no clue how to figure everything out I have read several books on the subject and start out gang busters .. and cut out all the carbs compleatly ... then I feel like I am ready to drop dead!!! Maybe I should gradually reduce my carb intake and go through withdrawl first That would mean cutting out coffee totally and compleatly forever!! I have to admit .. while I was trying the low carb diet .. my family thanked me .. it appeared to really help eliminate the gas problems I have had for so long I also have PCO's and at present I am not taking any medication for it. I HAVE to lose weight .. I can't stand living like this anymore .. it's time to do it!!! Any and all help would be really appreciated Oh and I need everyone to kick my butt on a regular basis!! So get out those boots ladies and lets whip me into shape!!

Welcome Goomba!

Feel free to join our Step Into Spring Challenge--it goes till the end of March!

I don't know how many books you've read on the subject of low carbing but if any plan tells you not to ingest ANY carbs, then you should avoid that plan. You need carbs in your diet to get energy--without it, your system is thrown completely off and you could end up hospitalized! There are, however, stricter low carb plans than others--some are Atkins, Carbohydrate Addicts Lifespan Program (CALP for short), the Zone, Protein Power, Sugar Busters and many others. I also suffer PCOS and this is definitely the right way to go to keep the symptoms in check. You also need to exercise regularly and drink a LOT!! of water every day. Without those things, it will be very hard to keep to a program.

As for falling off the wagon, so to speak, we've all done it, once or twice or so many times we can't count anymore. The trick is to wake up each day and keep trying.

By all means, join us also on the daily thread and let us get to know you!

Goomba!! Love the name!! You must be Italian!!! Welcome aboard!!!

Well let me give a few words of encouragement!!

first the feeling like dung will go away!! but you need to take if for the first week then it will be gone!! after that you must take a potassium supp and a magnesium supplement. when you low carb as your lose water for the first few weeks then it is important to replace that they are important in the workings of your muscle. go to walmart and buy the suplemnts off the vitamin section. that will help. for menu ideas check out the recipe section. maybe we can start the daily menure thread again and that will help give many of the newbies an idea what we eat. but remeber that there are many here that do different plans, some full low carb and some CAD/CALP and some just low glycemic carbs. so you do need to take that in consideration when you see the menus.

Goomba!

Where the heck have you been and how come it took you so long to get here? So, how are the cousins? the aunties?...do you have some with blue and pink hair who have names like Josephine? Carmella?

Giovanni?...unfortunately for him...his last name is O'Grady! But these things happen, yes?

So, how's it going on low carb? You got the thing down yet? feeling better? Hope so!

Welcome aboard, Goomba...you are going to LOVE it here! Really! We are a swell (not swelling) bunch and I am glad that you found us!

welcome aboard goomba!!!!

i see you have been soundly greeted by some of the best around here... but i have to warn you about peach pit. she and i are sisters in real life, so we really and truly know the dirt about each other... and our auntie josephine was indeed a strawberry blond [various shades] right to her death at age 88. her sister carmella, who died in her early 90's, favored the blue/purple shades for some reason. as peachie and i age and start dipping our heads in the bucket, well frankly, i don't care to speculate about it!!!

having said that, who said you had to give up your coffee??????

low carbing should be tailored to the individual, but right now i think that one key is getting in at least 60 grams of protein, even if you have to take a protein shake to do it. and choose one with as few carbs as you can get.

many people have success if they stick to mostly protein and lots of vegs. fat is ok, but don't use it as permission to use a stick of butter a day!!!

good luck... and post often...
