Default Pre surgery and new job

I need some words of wisdom. I went to a job interview on Friday and It seemed to go REALLY well. I will find out this week if I got the position. I am also ready to have my 4th pre determination appointment this month. Has anybody started a new job just before having surgery. I'm worried that it will come down to having surgery or having a job. When it is a good time to tell a supervisor that I am in the process. I;m figuring I will have 3-4 months between starting and possible surgery date. This is really weighing on my mind.

I had a lap R-en-Y on a Thursday, stayed until Saturday morning & while I was supposed to have help w/ my then 6 month old & nearly 2 year old, Monday, I was on my own. W/ planning, I had absolutely no problems & the pain had subsided by then so I was able to do it & I think that most likely, you could return to work quickly as long as it isn't physical labor. Planning your protein & only trying new foods at home helps a lot. Good luck!

you're gonna have to talk with your surgeon about how long you should be out of work. that's the issue - if your doc wants you off for 4-6 weeks, most places require that you be working there for at least 6 months before having this kind of short-term disability [or whatever other policy they call it]. if your surgeon thinks you should be back at work after a week or so, then discuss it AFTER you've gotten the job. you don't want to be perceived as being unreliable.

having said all that, the OTHER REAL ISSUE is whether your insurance will cover the surgery, and when it kicks in. and whether it'll require you to do additional hoop-jumping. you might want to consider COBRA-ing your benefits to cover this problem if the new insurance ends up being to much of a PIA.

keep us posted!

I already have insurance that I know covers the surgery, so I don't plan on changing insurance until after I (hopefully) have surgery. I officially got the job today!!!! It's not a very strenuous position, no lifting or anything. I don't plan on saying anything until after I see the surgeon. The only problem with this job is I will miss my daughters Jr High soccer games. Gotta teach hubby how to use the camcorder!!!

I go to orientation next Tuesday. Then I start my training. I am basically a customer service rep for either correctional facilities or nursing homes (will find out which next week) It is through a drug company. Paid holidays, paid birthday, 401K, benefits, free uniforms (scrubs) I am so excited. It seems like forever since I worked last. This means hubby has the kids for summer vacation at least until 5:30 or 7pm. The schedule rotates 2 weeks 9-5:30 one week 10:30-7p. I am going into this with hope and a great big grin!!!
