Hey guys, i was thinking about how i have been dieting for about 2 years now, and i have learned alot on this long old trip, mind you im not there yet and i dont think i will ever know EVERYTHING about dieting, but i was thinking we could share a couple of tips we have found that work, advice and lessons from bad advice maybe??
so advice i was given that was bad:
you can eat anything in moderation. Why it was bad for me was because i cant say no, and i cant stop myself from having any more, or giving in at other times. im a dieter who has to go cold turkey to really see the effects. A treat every now and then is ok but i think letting myself have one thing always snowballs.
you will lose weight after you have had your TOM: bad for me because i have such irregualr, confusing periods, i often find that i will gain a couple of pounds that will stick with me up to 2 weeks afterwards, its very discouarging to think its def gonna go then it doesnt for a bit.
best advice given: set small attainable goals. think short term, not long term.
look at the good you have done, how far you have come and not about times when you have struggled, just about how you over came it andgot through it.
hot food fills you up more: in my case very true! i will always prfer a lunch like soup or a boiled egg in a salad yum.
oh and i must make a special mention for the wonders of tea. A natural dieretic, anti-toxant, and aslong as u dont have sugar and only skimmed milk a good source of a caffine push if you are really flagging and just want a bar of choc for the sugar rush!
i think of these all the time so i may add some more.
but it would be great to see what you guys have come up with :-D have a good evening everyone!
My advice about everything in moderation: you are right, it's not true for everybody and it's not fair, but fair is where you take the pig. for me i can not eat baked goods, homemade or otherwise, or it will trigger a binge, for me. i only recently discovered this and only through my food journal and a good friend did i finally figure this out. everyone has to find their own trigger and then make their choice.
the worse thing i was ever told was not really advice but i think it was meant that way, but i was told: "you just don't want to lose the weight bad enough". that was the worst. i still here it, but i don't let it get to me now b/c i know that that is simply not true and that it doesn't matter who tells me that, they are not in my heart, so they dont' know how i feel.
My advice is find what is RIGHT for you. And the most important thing is stay positive, the second you put yourself down can lead to the ruin of weeks even months of work. Remind yourself why you're trying to lose weight and remind yourself of how well you've done at every opportunity.
My advice is drink your water...Get at least 2l into you a day..I notice a slowdown in my weightloss if I do not take enough water on board. I keep a 2l bottle of water with me all day and aim to finish it by bed!
i think i agree with the water thing, its somthing i sturggle with doing....im gonna try and get on that today!.
another tip : dont worry about the scale, maybe set dates once every 2 weeks to weigh yourself, its easy to get hung up. (i know im the worst person to preech this, but when i dont weigh im so much happier)
My Advice even though I am probably the last one to be giving it, is to "Not keep up with Mrs. Jones" because we all lose at a different rate, so don't get discouraged if someone is losing faster than you.
I've noticed that alot of folks here are emotional eaters and I'm not. I get nauseous when stressed and quit eating. I'm a boredom eater, and my job is very boring. But, that doesn't mean I don't learn something from everyone here. I take what applies to me and search thru what doesn't seem right at first. Funny thing is, I've really learned alot from what I didn't think applied, at first glance. It is really changing the way I see myself and my diet.
