First of all, I began with 40 pts a day, so I completely understand. I ended up with 8-10 extra points some days! I knew it wasn't healthy to eat too little, but I just wasn't hungry and couldn't force myself to consume any more.
I agree with the above posts. I think that when people think "eating healthier" we start diving for the low fat/fat free. We don't always have to right away, expecially for those of us with higher points. Going for the right portion of a "regular" food is just fine in the beginning.
But don't forget to keep the fruits & veggies coming even if you pick higher point foods as well. For example, if your snack is usually a medium sized apple. Keep the apple, and add a 1/2 cup of 2% cottage cheese with it. That takes that snack from 1 point to 3 points.

) you can begin the substitutions for lower cal-lower fat and higher fiber foods.
