eating my points

  • okay, so i've been thinking about this the last couple of days, asked a few ww'ing co-workers and haven't been able to come up with a definite answer. currently i get 35 points a day. i usually eat about 4 at breakfast, 2 at mid-morning snack, 6-8 at lunch, 2 in my afternoon snack, and then eating a healthy dinner usually averages into about 8 points for me. i end up snacking at night to finish my points. i know i have to eat the points to continue losing, but should i be trying to eat more points during the day instead of using them at night. i don't like going to bed with a full stomach, but when i eat healthy i have to eat a lot to use all my points. i like the way i am eating and the things i am eating. i'm not hungry at night when i have to finish out my points, but i know if i don't eat i may not lose. i don't like eating when i'm not hungry. so what should i be doing?? trying to eat more during the day so i don't have to eat at night?? i'm actually looking forward to not having so many points to deal with!
  • How about fitting in some higher-point healthy snacks? For instance, 1 oz of nuts is 4 points and contains healthy fat that is good for you. Also, are you getting in your oil? If not, try to fit in in. 2 tsp of olive oil is 2 points.
  • If you follow your 8 Healthy Guidelines between the healthy oils and dairy that is 6-8 points a day (8-10 if over 250 pounds, 50 y/o and if nursing it is 10-12); add in your protein of 6-8 points a day (8-10 if over 250 pounds) that eats up a big chunk.

Also try full or regular products over lowfat/diet products.

whole or 2% milk vs 1% or skim

full fat cheese vs low fat or fat free

regular bread vs low calorie bread

    are just some examples.
  • First of all, I began with 40 pts a day, so I completely understand. I ended up with 8-10 extra points some days! I knew it wasn't healthy to eat too little, but I just wasn't hungry and couldn't force myself to consume any more.

I agree with the above posts. I think that when people think "eating healthier" we start diving for the low fat/fat free. We don't always have to right away, expecially for those of us with higher points. Going for the right portion of a "regular" food is just fine in the beginning.

But don't forget to keep the fruits & veggies coming even if you pick higher point foods as well. For example, if your snack is usually a medium sized apple. Keep the apple, and add a 1/2 cup of 2% cottage cheese with it. That takes that snack from 1 point to 3 points.

As your points slim down (and they can quickly ) you can begin the substitutions for lower cal-lower fat and higher fiber foods.

    Best of luck!!!
  • I would say if you don't like eating at night, then you should try to eat more during the day. I've heard that it's better to eat a bigger breakfast and lunch because you tend to burn more calories during the day.

Sounds like everyone has great ideas for you. Good luck and hope you're soon in a pts. range that suits your lifestyle better. Definitely eating higher fat foods should get you there, I mean like regular dressing instead of light or 2% milk instead of skim, not high fat. The dressing is what gets me, I don't like many light dressings, so I have to use extra pts. for that. You'll find what works for you!
