Default People with active jobs

I got a new job!!! Yippie my last job was mind-numbing and I hated it. I've switched to a new job, same field but different work. However this has changed my physical needs as well, I think. I need to run this by the group I'm not running on my own information this year. I work in IT and my past jobs have been in cal centers sitting for 8-9 hours a day. Being physical was a relief and I could go as hard and long as necessary b/c I wasn't moving except during exercise. Now I'm in the field every day. Driving from one location to another, moving PCs, working under desks, walking and moving all day long. I sit at a desk for 10 minutes at a time now and I love this work. My question is should my workouts change a little b/c I'm walking all day? So far for the first week of my new job I didn't workout at all. It was about time to take a weeks rest so I did. So far this week I'm back on track but finding that I may need to adjust my schedule a little. I love working out and don't plan on cutting back too much but I may add in another rest day. So far I've been going 6 days a week following Body-For Life. I want to work out and still feel good basically, I don't want to go into the wiped out zone and be able to enjoy life and my job. Anyone out there in active jobs? UPS deliveries? Fed-EX people? What does your training plan look like? I may cut out a cardio day so that my plan will look like:

Monday-Run
Tuesday-spin/weights
Wednesday-off
Thursday-spin/weights
Friday-Run
Saturday-long bike/weights
Sunday-off

Do what feels right- I'd continue your current program and see how you feel. After a week or two, you may feel just fine.

I'm a personal trainer- in addition to my own workouts, I demo exercised, hal benches around the gym rack plates, drag db's on and off the racks. I haven't changed my workouts other than I schedule my leg day on one of my lighter client days.

Ah, Mrs.Ruthie, you have the job I had 6 years ago. I loved the activity part of it, and basically did not change my workout at all (which was mostly running at the time). I really noticed when I took this job (in a different field, which I love) which is much more sedentary.

I'd say, you might want to ease up on your workout until you're used to the extra work activity, and then go back to what you were doing.

I bet you are going to find that you have an easier time dropping or keeping pounds off (sorry, not sure of which one is your goal here) and staying in shape. You may see your appetite increase as well and can eat without it affecting your waistline. Sounds great and like a fun job. I used to always envy the people who came in to do our plant maintenance or who stocked our snack box, because it seemed so much better than being glued to a desk!
