Are you all ready for another week of smashing the fat? It seems like it is easy to get lazy this time of the year. The holidays are over and I am usually worn out. But... I am determined to not let myself fall into the same old patterns. I am going to keep setting new goals to keep myself motivated. When I have reached one... then I will start working towards the next one.
I know how easy it is to fall "off the wagon" when DH comes home. My DH was deployed to Iraq for a year and I have gained 15 pounds since May when he came home! When you are without them for a long time, you just want to enjoy food and company and not think about eating right & exercising. Its tough!
Day 8...can't believe tomorrow is the last day of detox! For me, this has been pretty easy for the most part with a few hamburger cravings here and there! I have been not-so-good with the exercise...baby steps I guess!
I want to stay on phase 1 with the addition of chicken & fish for one meal a day...has anyone done this with any success?
Yeah... it is tough when you are in a celebratory mood and still trying to diet. It just seems like the two don't mix. Here I am complaining about my dh being gone for 2 weeks and your was gone for a YEAR!!! I know you are so glad to have him back home.
Dh and I added meat to 3 meals after the 9 day detox. We ate chicken and fish during the week and added red meat on one of the weekend days. It worked for us. We didn't add any of the other phase 2 foods. Now that dh is gone alot... I have started eating most of what is allowed on phase 2. I still don't eat much meat, though. I just don't want to have to cook much for just me. LAZY... I KNOW!!
I hope you all had a great weekend! Mine was fine, I went shopping and bought way too much stuff. The winter sales were too good! What I really need is a good pair of running shoes but I couldn't be bothered to look for something that boring I also went to see Dreamgirls too and I loved it even though I am not big on musicals. I started my walk/run training on the treadmill Sunday. I am trying for 3 days a week and hopefully on Sunday I will be up to 15 minutes of running and in 2 weeks up to 30 minutes.
One of my New Years resolutions was to work on my Spanish and since this is the only place I can confess everything, I need to talk. I started Spanish 2 because I had 1 year of it in school and travel to Latin destinations every year and I know bits and pieces but I am not really good at forming sentences. I tried to go back to Spanish 1 again several times because I thought 2 would be too difficult. But 1 is too easy for me so I always drop the class a week or two in (so I can get most of my money back). This time I decided I would give 2 a try. I went to class tonight and I was so intimidated. I hated not knowing the answers when I was called on and the entire class is conducted in Spanish. I was so lost and I felt like and idiot. I almost walked out in the middle of class and I cried when I got in the car. I haven't felt so out of my league since Algebra! I really want to quit and try a different approach (like some cds and software) but I don't know what to do. To be honest w/ you guys, everyone in my family and my boyfriend think I quit everything I start. In the past it has been dieting and exercise (but of course I will not be quitting my healthy eating or exercise ever again) band, piano lessons, dance class - you name it. I have never been good at continuing with anything. Ok sorry to go off topic but I had to vent to someone.
I hope all of you are doing well. Welcome to all the newbies and returning smashers!
Sherry, don't worry, you will get right back to smashing. It is hard, I know because my boyfriend tempts me on the weekends when he wants to go out to eat.
You are doing great Paige and I am sure you will kick butt on P2. Just add in meat a few times a week, that worked for me. No need to eat it everyday as long as you are getting your protein from other sources.
I didn't even miss it much.
I know how yucky it feels to be told you quit everything you start...you sound just like me. Just remember your life is about the journey, not the destination. All the different experiences give you a better perspective on stuff and the fact that you have struggled with some stuff will make you more compassionate. Trust in your inner voice to tell you what is right...if you are intimidated and feel bad being in Spanish class, then don't go! They have amazing software that teach language and maybe you could listen while you are on the treadmill! Killing two birds with one stone!
Whatever the decision is about the Spanish class, try not to beat yourself up about it. I know its easier said than done, but try to say loving positive things to yourself and don't just dwell on things others say that are negative. I know they hurt, but you are a work in progress and you will succeed!
I did the exact same thing, I took two years of Spanish in High School and then a few years later I went back to a community college to take more, well I knew I had had Spanish 1 and Spanish 2 but I thought Spanish 3 at the college level would be too much so I took Spanish 2 at the community College. I lasted one class, same thing, everything was in spanish, I had no idea what anyone was saying, and could not read anything that was handed to me! Don't bad if you need to drop it, it is not right for you, It is the same mentality we have when we are full and we finish what is on the plate, we don't need it, it is not good for us, but we feel obligated to we take it anyway,. I really think that it is all the same for those of us who struggle with weight, ( I am really speaking for myself now) but we have the same thought in many relms that we must never tell people no, we must finish what is on our plates, we must over accomidate to make others feel at ease, even to the detriment of our own selves, I think it goes along with another thing alot of us do and that is we focus on the process , or the journey and not the destination or goal. sometimes we focus on the diet and not the goal weight, the exercise and not the health results, ............the class and not the ability to actually speak spanish? If your goal is to speak conversational Spanish, then you should do what you need to, to make that happen, find a Spanish speaking friend and speak only spanish with them on certian days, do what spanish speaking people to to learn english - watch soap opras! for you it would be spanish ones, go to your library and check out the sets of cds, that teach spanish. But most importantly do what is best for you to reach your goal whether that means dropping that class or not.
ok, that wasn't ment to be a lecture! sorry, I think I was speaking to myself more than anything. I fell off Phase 1 a few days ago, and was beating myself up. (who am I kidding, I fell off on day 3) I was feeling so sick and so tired, that I could not function, and with a house full of 5 kids ages 6 to 16, that is not an option. I had people coming up to me and asking what was wrong, I didn't look like myself. I had a normal meal, and I felt like a dried up plant that just got set in the shower for a good soak! I still love the fat smash book, I still love the foods, but I have to reach my goal the way that is going to get me there, for me I think that is going to mean mixing up the phases and doing like 4 days of ph. 1 , 2 days of ph. 2 and one day of ph. 3 a week or something, and focusing more on the things I enjoy, like running on my new treadmill, getting ready for the 5K that I love to run in march. focus on more water, and what is going to make me feel, good, I have to get back to thinking, "I am not going to eat that cake because it will make me run slow, and I won't feel good." instead of " I can't have cake I am on phase what-ever for how-ever more days" When I was in High school and on the varsity track team, I NEVER ate any sweets or junk food. NONE. I was 5' 7" 120 lbs. I ran all the time, I was upset or having a bad day, I wanted to run longer and harder, the no sweets or junk food thing, was imposed by me, not my parents or coach or because I needed to lose weight, it was because I wanted to beat everyone else on that track and I wanted the edge. I want to find that person again. I want to eat foods or not eat foods for the things I believe in, not because a list tells me too.
geez I am so sorry, for ranting, Lem what kind of pandoras box did you open in me???
I am excited to see how phase one went for all of you, as for me I have just been trying to eat smart and run I have lost almost 5 lbs. in a week. we will see what it says tomorrow.
Hi all. I'm a newbie and enjoying my first week on fat smash. I am bending the rules and weighing myslef (it's how i stay motivated). I am seeing great results and look forward to continuing.
I'm down 9 pounds my first 6 days. I've been to the gym 4 times for an hour of cardio each visit. I had one cheat day (my FIL's birthday) but manged to eat one piece of pizza for the first time in my life. I even lost that day.
My plan is to stay basically at detox but add some fish to my veggie dinners. havne't had any serious cravings issues. But I am going out for a friend's brithday this weekend - will have to decide on the plan. While a few drinks wouldn't kill me I know I'm practicing good habits. I'll have to think about it!
I went to the old thread and seen we now a new one.....Doing great maintaining, and working hard on my toning, seeing some results....Haven't read posts yet, but I will....It just feels good to be back with y'all....I see we have a newbie I'll read and be back....Hope everyone is smashin away the fat.
Hi Ladean - good to have you over here. I hope you are doing well!
Hello there to our newbie. It sounds like you are doing awesome, both w/ FS and at the gym!
Lettie, thanks so much for the support. I dropped the class today and am going to try a different approach and will think about ordering some software I have heard good things about (Rosetta Stone). I always like to be the best at everything when it comes to schoolwork and when I am not, it depresses me so Spanish is huge hurdle I have to get past. I HAVE to learn it for my job so I am going to have to learn what works for me, just like FS for you Don't worry if the phases aren't working for you. I have found on this diet I have to listen to my body. Last week I had to have something more than just fruits and veggies. I felt run down so I ate 1/2 a turkey sandwich and instantly I felt better. I also had a cookie last week so who knows what my 9 days of detox will do. I will be happy to lose 3 or 4 lbs. Concentrate on your 5k and do the best you can. I think its awesome that you are doing a 5k, it is very inspiring and I hope I can do one this year. I didn't mean to open up Pandoras box but thanks for sharing!
Thank you Paige! Your words meant so much. One of my resolutions I posted was to try to be more positive and I really need to work on it. I guess there are just some things from ones childhood that you keep hearing in your head. I guess my low self esteem (but its getting better as look and feel better) comes from being told I am a quitter both now and as a child. Mental note to self - never do that to my friends, family or children(if I ever have them).
Thanks to everyone out there. You guys are the best friends & sources of support I have had in a long time. Have a beautiful week and lets all be losers at weigh in!!! Lem
It is a cold one here. BRRR! I just had an egg white omelet and a banana for breakfast. I am stuffed. It is amazing that I used to eat such huge meals. I couldn't do that anymore. Thank God!
lem~ I am glad that you decided to do what's best for you. I know it is hard to try to live up to other people's expectations of you. But, in the end... you only have to please yourself. Good luck to you.
Lettie and Paige~ You are both doing so good! Can't wait to see your great results!
s2theb~ So glad to have you with us. Great detox results!
Ladean~ Hey Lady! Glad you found us. Have you heard from Linda? We miss her!! I hope she is doing okay.
Thanks for everyone's help! You guys were very helpful! I am going to stick to Phase 1 with the addition of meat couple time a week. And I am going to actually suck it up and exercise these next 10 days.
Hey Lem, Just a thought. I also had issues with traditional spanish classes, but then we went to spain and I was desperate to learn the language or at least some of it before we went and I took a "conversational spanish class." It was great. Everything was in Spanish, but there was no book so instead of a teacher just rambling in spanish the teacher does only speak spanish but with alot of gestures. It is like Spanish Charades. It was so interactive and very fun. I laughed so much and really enjoyed the class. Also Not having a book really took the pressure off. My class consisted of many different levels of learners and it didnt seem to matter everyone got alot out of the class and i walked away with way more knowledge than I had in my previous spanish classes. Just an idea to check out ??????
I have a friend who is a Christian recording artist, (the one that is visiting me right now) and she goes to spanish speaking countries on mission trips, sings in spanish, and is working on a cd right now that is in both english and spanish. And she is trying to get her hands on that Rosetta Stone, as well, she has heard that it is the best. So good for you!
Lettie

Yes, I hear from Linda several times a day, she's doing really good, she's just been busy, I'll let her know you asked about her, it will make her day.

I'm glad I found you too, I always find great support here, y'all are the greatest..I'm doing good, still maintaining, and feel great...I play with the program, I bounce from phase 4 for 5 days a week and do 1 day a week of detox and 1 day of phse 2, that seems to be working for me.
