i was thinking that your housemates were already younger otherwise i'd have suggested ages ago you go for a uni student.... maybe i did..... coz my brother travelling at the moment and just spent 6 months with a spanish speaking family while he went to uni in south america, chile i think......... maybe you could get a studious japenese type, you wont see them and when you do they probably wont speak english so you wouldnt have to talk to them??

almost blew it today, should get on calorie king and checkit out.... my friend talked me into a iced choc and half a rockyroad (i didnt want the rockyroad she jusst said we were going halves! grrr i said i didnt want anything to eat yet i ended up paying for rocky road!) and i also had a handful of chips then hubby said are you sure you dont want to split that up into a couple of sittings so i gave him the packet.... good hubbypoo..... and i had a milo.... BUT i did suggest and then take back the suggestion of maccas for dinner after we went out this arvo!

This one is pretty quiet, and on her own I could probably cope with her being here. The problem began about a week ago when I began to investigate a big story about money being mismanaged/misappropriated from an organisation - $40,000.

My dilemma is that my housemate's partner is right at the centre of my investigation - ie one of the people I am seriously looking at.

It's their weekend to be here, and I told them a week ago it can't happen. It compromises me ethically. Not only that, if I were the partner I couldn't spend the weekend in the house of someone who is investigating them. That's just WRONG! She could end up with criminal charges - and that makes me feel unsafe in my own home.

So my housemate spat the dummy at me tonight. She said: "Oi pay me rent so oi can have me mates or me partner here any toime oi wanna. If ya don't loike it, oi'm gonna haf ta give ya nowtice." So I said: "Your notice is accepted".

She hasn't spoken to me since, and I don't care.

I'm definitely looking for a second job - and there might be something in the wind on that score.

Rent in Perth averages $380/week, so a cheaper place would be a shed in a far-flung suburb - and that would really increase my fuel costs.

God Ani I really feel for you, that's a really sh*tty situation to be in. I really hope that you can get this issue sorted and hopefully get someone nice and normal to live with. Or perhaps you should look at buying a tent

I went for a half hour work in between my 2 jobs last night and managed to do over 12,000 steps for the day. Working in the evening in a big warehouse that I'm walking around in sure helps to get the step count up. Forgot to take my grapes with me for my 9pm snack so had a bag of chippies instead. Woops!

This afternoon I should be going to the gym but I've got my friend's funeral so will just have to wait and see how I get on at that before I start thinking about much else.

geeez ani that is unbelievable!!!! what a small world...... what are the chances of HM partner being person of interest.....

julia - what are your jobs?? dont get into the chip trap! that is how i ORIGINALLY put on weight i used to have to travel 2 hours each way for work, and had to change trains once, on my way to other platform was kiosk that sold chips so i would buy one on way home.... at least 15grams of fat each day and no time to walk it off would get home hubby would have dinner ready would eat fall asleep in front of telly and do it all again... by the time i finished that travel i think i had put on my first 20kg after finishing highschool (at highschool i was 54kg size 6-8)(first wedding i had no scales but was 12-14 and thought i was a whale) (now i just would love to be a 14!) (slow and steady...)

oh and barb - my "reasons" for losing weight (apart from it being the cool thing to do)
1. fit in to clothes i love that are living in my ceiling
2. be fitter to chase after baby
3. in my mind i have to be another 11 kilos lighter before my body is even going to think about getting pregnant again because that is the weight i was last time
4. to be 11kgs lighter before i get pregnant just in case i put a lot of weight on again next pregnancy... which i hope i will have learnt from when pregnant with jemima not necessary
5. to take advantage of new skills learnt while on dozens of diets, i KNOW how to eat to stay the same weight now and it is awesome i just have to lose the excess

the hardest thing i have a problem with is waste.... i dont want to waste the food i have in the cupboard already that i know is bad, turning the m&ms into ingredients not food/snacks has been a great idea, i have 3 unopened packets and they are going in cookies, as soon as i have another powerpoint in my kitchen.... i just got a text from kitchen dude, "Hi kelly to imbarrest to call you feel stupid...cupboard back is not ready... will call you later" at least he has learnt how to use his phone spelling can be his next achievement after my kitchen is finished..... grrrr

Ani, what size place? $380 a week is mad! I paid $320 a week in Sydney for a 2BR unit and thought that was a ripoff! My 1BR unit that I rent out in Melbourne is less than $200/wk.

Kel, if you don't want to worry about waste, don't buy the stuff. Once you have, it's really a toss up - waste it, or put it on your arse? I know which I'd choose. Just throw it out or give it away. I know I could not keep my "trigger" food in the kitchen!

Julia, I don't know how you do it - I'm sure there is something wrong with me that I'm always so tired, but even the thought of your schedule makes me want to collapse!

WA is in the middle of a mining boom, and that's had a major flow-on effect. Try renting a place up north - it's closer to $700/week. The $380 is for your average 3br/1bath house in a suburb within 20km of the CBD.

The average rental price in my suburb (which is old-money, well established and conservative, alongside massive mansions on the riverfront) is around $750 a week.

Kel I agree with Gen. I've learned by trial and error that if I have my trigger foods in the house, I will eat them. My weight loss works far better if I leave those treats in the supermarket.

i know!!!!! so training hubby not to treat me with choc but with yummy stone fruit, we both LOVE peaches and stuff so would prefer he come home with a ripe mango than a choc bar any day!

that is so so much money for rent! our mortgage is going to go up in Feb when it ends being locked in and that is scary enough, but how is anyone supposed to save for a house if they have to spend so much on rent??

Oh - 3BR, that's ok then. Why do you need 3BR? Can't you get a 1 or 2BR place that will be cheaper?

I need a room for my office because I work from home. And the other room is for the revolving door of housemates past and present . A 2BR house isn't really any cheaper, and rents won't drop anytime soon.

But I must be learning something because even with all the stress of the last week or two (and it's included a couple of big personal moments), I haven't felt tempted to eat too much rubbish. And that's relatively new for me.

Something's changing in me - I can feel it, but I can't describe it. All I know is that for the last five weeks I haven't wanted to eat badly, or to eat too much - and I'm not thinking about food as much as I used to. I haven't really exercised since I broke my rib, but I will soon.

It's like I've left something behind. I don't associate food with success or failure; I don't eat to celebrate, or to suppress uncomfortable emotion. I don't stuff myself when I'm angry, or fill the gap when I'm bored, or eat when I feel lonely.

Of course I'm still learning, and I understand that I still have a very long way to go.

People are starting to notice, and to comment that I've lost heaps of weight. Sometimes I appreciate it, and at other times I think: well I'm still obese, so I must have been huge before. But I can't remember what I looked like 20-odd kilos ago… although I occasionally catch myself in a sad moment, disappointed that I did that to myself.

Been readng all, Yes Ani I agree with Kel.... your 'accent' is fantastic. I bet she says mouwboile fouwn too. I agree rents are silly, we are lucky to pay $260 for a 5 bedroom brick, office, rumpus room, two bathroom and 3 bay car garage. We won't be moving anytime soon because usually it is $250 for a small crappy home. Up north here they are paying ridiculous amounts cause of the mines too. But in saying that, they get ridiculous amounts of pay too. My Bro in Law PAYS $700 in tax a week so can't imagine what his take home is.

Julia hope everything went well yesterday. Kel your pic is so great. I want family pics of all of us but havent had a chance to. Also we only have the boys weekends and noone does portraits on weekends around here and if we go away we have to take two cars.

Oh yeah, and I have figured out that on my christmas wish list is one of them pig tings that you sit in the fridge and squeals when you open the door. Last night at 1am I decided to get a turkish delight, take it beside my bed and eat a corner..... that corner turned into waking so many times and having a 'bite'. Well the turkish fairies must have come in the night because there isn't a whole lot left.
