  • OMG I listened to Jillian and Ali on her show and wrote two pages of notes while listening. That was probably what I needed to get my week started! I feel like Ali spoke to me on a lot of issues she dealt with and gave some pretty good words of wisdom on how to overcome them, especially the making it 99% of the way there and then self-sabotaging. Thanks for the link!

Tomorrow is payday and grocery shopping day and I also bought a calorie counting book, so I believe I will be food journaling this time and really counting what goes into my mouth. Now I am off to write out a grocery list to make it through the first week! I'm also dusting off my Jillian Michaels book and finishing it. No more excuses, right?
  • "muse, can you tell me how many miles are in each activity during a Triathlon? I think I should like to do one some day. Jess is going to air up my bike tires so i can start riding again"

Diva the nice thing about Tris is there are all kinds. The most popular short distance ones usually are halfmileswim/12-15milebike/3mile run. Those are called "Sprints" There are also "Super-Sprints" which tend to be half that distance if you just want to get your feet wet. One of the ones I'm doing in July is a Sprint. A womans only one run by Danskin. I know people who have walked the 3 miles of a sprint so really as long as you can swim and bike some... I really believe almost anyone can do a sprint with a few months training. You don't even need a fancy road bike or anything starting out.

The one I'm doing in Aug is a Olympic or International distance (like they do in the Olympics!) That one is going to be 1mileswim/26mileBike/6mile run. It's a bit of a stretch for me to do this one, but I'm just looking to finish, and I'm fairly confident I'll be able to do that by Aug. I currently can do all the distances for that just haven't done them all consecutively yet!

From there there is the 1/2 Ironman (Twice the Olympic) and the Iron man (Four times the Olympic) Those are a bit nutty. The Ironman has a Marathon at the END of it and thats AFTER swimming 2.5 miles and biking 100. Not sure I'd ever try that but if I like the ones I do this summer who knows I might try the 1/2 next summer.

I think you should totally try a sprint or super-sprint!!! Get on that bike girl! Go read the book "The Slow Fat Triathlete" by Jayne Williams. It's very inspiring she is the one who got me thinking I could do it.

This journey we are all on isn't about doing without. It isn't even about weight loss. This journey is about eating right and exercising. The side effect of those two things is weight loss.

    9. Bob or Jillian?
Have no idea, I don't watch the show.

    10. Tell us a little about yourself!
I am a 46 year old Christian stay at home mom. I give the Lord a great deal of credit for me losing weight and staying on plan. I love to do hook rugs, embroidery and read. Camping and walking thru the state parks are a couple of things I really enjoy. I don't watch much tv but I love to watch old English comedy's, such as "Waiting for God" and "Are you being served". I also am the inventor of the " Rennie Plan " and for the low cost of 19.99 you too can own this plan. For a limited time offer I will send you a free egg separator that works most of the time. HURRY don't miss out on this great deal. Send cash and a self addressed stamped envelope.
  • Wow, 6 pages the first day! Crazy!

idealmuse, I'm a triathlete too! The last one I did was the sprint in Mission Bay last fall. Unfortunately after the shark attack last week I think I may be retiring. That's always been a fear of mine and now it's just too real. I'm sad, because I did enjoy. It was nice "training" instead of "exercising." Best of luck with yours.

Well this is my first time doing the challenge and I'm pretty excited. I was wondering though, if we lost weight since we did our initial weigh-in, what should we do about that?

Well here's my survey, I look forward to getting to know you guys and wish you all luck!

    9. Bob or Jillian? oooh tough, I love Bob, but I think I have to go with Jillian as a trainer

    10. Tell us a little about yourself! Well, I've already lost quite a bit of weight but I seem to have fallen into a pattern of self sabotage. I really need to just get to goal and prove to myself that I can do it. Right now I'm doing a bunch of different stuff for exercise. Everything from weights to yoga, Jillian's videos to running.
  • Stacy if you've lost since you posted your starting weight its okay, I bet many have, and some have gained. Just let your next weigh in reflect your weight as it is. We dont worry about the discrepancies the first week can cause.
  • stacylam -

Yeah I heard about the attack. My tris are in lakes, so no sharks... but still makes one think about how seriously you have to take something in open water. There are plenty of tris not in the ocean though... I wouldn't retire just because of that!

Training does make getting the exercise in a lot easier though doesn't it?
  • Quote: Wow Briesy, a BA in Sports and Entertainment Management sounds really cool!

  • Good Morning Everyone! Wow so many people, it's going to take me a while to get everyone straight.
It's pouring down rain today and that makes me sooo lazy! I have an early meeting at work so will hopefully get off in time to go to the gym if I don't get my walk in tonight due to the weather. Of course the dogs will be crazy without one, but they're not the ones who need to lose weight!

wkgirl- how cool to live on a farm, do you grow your own veggies? What type of big dog?

xGurlyGrlx - I'm going to my first spinning class tomorrow - SCARED to death of it but I'm going to do it.

Shy Moment - While there's many areas I'd like to lose weight my "bat wings" are the most hated part. My dream is to wear tank tops!

jayowhy - yeah I didn't get it at first either, very clever!

    jenjen - what is geocaching?

Allright time to get ready for work. Have a good day all!

    ~Heather
  • Morning all. I need to focus this week, I stepped on the scale this am and am back to 151, I am sure it is water but intend for my weigh ins to show a loss every single week. I will be fine with a itty bitty one, but it must go DOWN!!

I also want to try and post often, I was not good with that last time, but forgive me if I don't do a lot of personals every day, just so much information already and I tend to get overwhelmed. I want to be a good team mate though, so I am reading all of them! So many interesting women! Looking forward to getting to know all of you!
  • Good morning to a great bunch of red team members!! So glad this challenge has finally started -- I really need this to get myself in gear and I promise not to let you guys down!!

I will admit this past week has been a difficult one so this coming week may not show a great weigh in, but I'm sure it will be my last less than competitive one

I hope everyone has an awesome, on plan day.

I'm also not too good at getting to personals but I promise to check in often and offer support whenever someone needs it -- we can win this challenge!!
  • Wow, I'm gone for the weekend and the teams are posted!! I'm going to post this then I'll try to catch up at work later

    1. What would you like us to call you? ~ Andi

    2. What eating plan are you using? ~ Low Cal

    3. What is your favorite way to exercise? ~ Is there a favorite way?! kiddin' Swimming!

    4. What is one area of weightloss that you struggle with? ~ Journaling. I've been trying to journal my food and I keep forgetting my journal to log the food in it.

    5. What is one area of weightloss that you excel at? ~ Exercise. I exercise at least 5 days a week and I mix things up. I'm training for a 5k so there is a lot of running involved, usually 3-4 days a week. following the C25k program. I also swim laps 2-4 days a week. I also weight train (this I need to get better at) usually 2-3 days a week. I also do boot camp 1-2 days a week.

    6. What is your short term goal? ~ To be able to run my 5k May 17th with no problems aka no walking.

    7. What will you reward yourself with when you reach that goal? ~ a night out with the girls.

    8. Best weight loss tip? ~ keep going, if you fall off track, pick yourself back up and keep going.

    9. Bob or Jillian? ~ toughy ~ I train under 2 people that were put through Bob's **** for a season of TBL so I know he is a hard I can see both of them pushing me above my limits.

    10. Tell us a little about yourself! ~ I'm 29, turn 30 in June I am married and have an 8 year old son. My short term goal is 2-B-fit-by-30. I've got less than 2 months to go. I'm in better shape physically now than I was in high school, unfortunately I weigh about 70 pounds more now than I did back then. Go figure.
  • Oh.. oh! Here we go!

<- I love the dancing carrot!

    1. What would you like us to call you?

Rach is good! I get called 'hey you' just as much these days!

    2. What eating plan are you using?

For the first time in my life.. I'm writing down what I'm eating... and actually measuring out the food that I'm eating! I suppose it is a way of Calorie Counting.

    3. What is your favorite way to exercise?

It was spooning fuud into my mouth... but that has got to change. I like playing DDR, and walking the long haul to the university. I would ride my bike.. but looking at the uphills... yeek! I don't know that I'm ready for that yet, considering that I'm one of those sweaty messes.

    4. What is one area of weightloss that you struggle with?

Eating... eating way too much at one setting. It's as if I'm never full! and always too hungry! I try to do the be good thing.. lots of oatmeal and veggies, but I even eat too much of that.

    5. What is one area of weightloss that you excel at?

Staying away from french fries and hamburgers - and all that fast food. Greasy fast food just doesn't really interest me. There are no potato chips in my house, there is no deep fryer in my house!

    6. What is your short term goal?

I'd like to lose 10 pounds. If I ever got in the 170's.. wow.. it's been a long time since I've been there. My long term goal would be to lose 30 pounds.

    7. What will you reward yourself with when you reach that goal?

Wow.. I haven't thought about that. *scratches head* Maybe something small and new for my computer?

    8. Best weight loss tip?

Oatmeal. Not that stuff that's loaded with sugar and junk in a packet. Oatmeal, no sugar, a few raisins, and some nonfat milk. Keeps you going all morning.

    9. Bob or Jillian?

*falls over* Heh.. never watched the biggest loser (Is that what they are from), but heard stuff about it. I unfortunately often don't get home in time to watch mainstream TV. Maybe that's my problem - all the late nights at the orfice.

    10. Tell us a little about yourself!

I'm 29, single, and a grad student in engineering (not to mention the biggest nerd). I guess I'm unusual for the job, in that I do not consider myself particularly smart -- just rather fortunate and blessed to be surrounded by some of the most intelligent people in the world. I'm coming around the bend in my PhD program.. I maybe have 1.5-2 years left before I graduate (I hope). I just walked in the Relay for Life - my mom has stage 4 cancer, but has been managing it fairly well for the last few years.

I enjoy fixing computers, being goofy, laughing, and telling a lot of these kids that they are very capable of making it in college. So many of them have been bashed down by professors, other students, and themselves. If I can make it in school, I think that 99% of people can as well, if they have the time to dedicate to it.. (and if they cut down just a bit on the alcohol-related activities during the week.) I'm actually teaching my first class during the end run of the activities this year, so maybe by the time class ends, I'll also have lost a lot of weight!

-Whew! Didn't mean to write a book!

    -Rach
