I had to go home (10 hour drive) to pick up my car from the mechanic (I had a wreck over xmas and the car was in the shop). While I was there, my boyfriend and I stopped to see my grandmother, who is 94 and blind as a bat when it comes to little details. Because of the way her vision is, however, she pays attention to shapes (she noticed my nephew's girlfriend's pregnancy at four weeks - before they told anyone). and she noticed I was losing weight!!
Tonight is the last hockey game of the regular season and I'm afraid I have really messed up my knees - they hurt incredibly badly. I'm not sure if it's just the exercise combined with carrying this extra weight or what, but I can barely go up and down stairs. I WILL get through the game tonight, though - and then I will dial it back to low impact exercise only until the playoffs. Our hockey season is super short, but it has gotten me into the habit of exercising every evening and now I actually look forward to it as a form of stress relief. I can't wait until I feel a little less like a cow and I have the self esteem to go to the pool during lap swim hours. I love to swim - I just hate being in a bathing suit surrounded by beautiful skinny sorority girls on the undergrad campus. ahhwell...soon I will have the guts to do it - soon I tell you! Hockey season might be over just in time for me to start a new 21 day exercise challenge - we shall see, though.
Keep on Truckin!

Don't you have any pause days?

A hand on another day notched!
As for the exercise and the a little-is-better-than-none thinking, sure, it IS better than none, but more is better than a little and more likely to see results and results is what you're after, right? As I know on the books and certain studies they say an hour is the same as 20 in the walk/jog debate, but my body says it ain't! And like you said, the cardio benefits are enormous. When I've been training my heart, I have tons more energy and feel like doing so much more. I start chomping at the bit, so to speak and actually want to up the pace during my run. Before, I used to think it was tough to just get on the treadmill and do something at 6 kph, now I rev up to 9 or 10 kph with some real hard rock on my iPod nano (great little thing!) and I knock out practically another K with that, before taking a breather at 7 kph. Now, the 6 kph seems like a joke. Of course, I still am not cutting the food greatly, but I can quickly get the added fat off. The thing I gotta do is keep it up long enough (and with enough non-beer days) to get more and more of the stored fat gone! You can do it! Just keep trying! One day you'll get so sick of playing games with yourself, that maybe something'll click in.
I think the standing up/sitting down thing is mostly just a preference. I see lots of tiny Japanese sitting down to change and it's tradition here to sit down on a tiny stool and bathe and then get into the tub, so it comes naturally to them. But, yes, balance is a problem when you're heavy I suppose or the weight is a strain when you're standing on one leg. I notice too that when I gain weight I just naturally become more energy-conservative, finding ways subconsciously even to not expend energy. When I am lighter I bound around! Awareness is key! You're doing great, CB!
That's like me with the racehorse trainers. They look at you and pick you apart 'cause they've got eyes for weight. And being Japanese, they say it! I am no longer socially acceptable, having spent too much time around racehorse trainers and bodybuilders, who seem to make their greetings somehow weight related. They think nothing of it and neither do I but I know it doesn't go over well in the general public!
Don't know what kind of trainer lifts your legs over your head. If I attempted that I'd tear something. You sure you're not in some kind of S&M club? And I don't want to hear any more that you have foregone exercise for TV?!!?!
But you didn't, did you? The TV was after the exercise, right? So, are you getting your workout in today? And don't worry about the skin. We let it all hang out on this site!!
And glad to hear freaky is doing well too. Hope she comes in and posts too. Keep up the good work Tayja!
Avoiding the vending machine sounds like it'll be a great challenge for you. They are awful habits, aren't they?
the pukey feeling was probably from jiggling my vitamins around my stomach with coffee before working out. I never did wretch
