  • Shook things up for me! I lost 3 pounds this first week on phase 2. The prior 3 weeks on phase 1 I lost a total of 1 silly little pound. I was so reluctant to go to phase 2. Boy was I wrong. But then again, no one told me it might help with my plateau!

It's hard to tell. I think Bev said that she had a one-time increase, but she would have to clarify for you.

I may have had a slow gain over time, but it's hard to tell what to attribute it to. The lowest I hit was 128.4 for just a couple of days, then I hung around 129-131 for a while. I am more often between 130-132 now, but I've also gained muscle since going back to the gym. So did I gain due to the glycogen stores?

My clothes still fit fine... even the stray size 2's I have in my closet. My sister is hovering around 122-123, and except for weekend "cheat" pluses that pass with a Phase 1 recovery day, I don't think she's had a plus up... but she does NOT work out.

Bottom line, if anything happened, it wasn't earth shattering.

Yes.... I think as the weight loss happens so fast it takes your brain some time to catch up.... also as you phase off your body is still in "loss mode" so most of us have continued to lose. I also started getting in more activity at goal so that may have something to do with it.... GREAT JOB by the way on getting to your goal WHHHOOOT WHHOOOOTTT!!!!

Wow! This thread is really hopping today!

    Congrats on making goal, Golfergirl!

I did have the one-time gain of 3 lbs. But it didn't happen until I had been in Phase 4 for a while. Clothes still fit the same so I'm OK with that. At first I thought I would go back on Phase 1 until I was 3 pounds under goal so that when the glycogen weight came back on, I'd be right where I wanted, but my husband was not cool with that. He likes me fine right where I am, or actually a bit heavier. So I decided to wait a while and do it when he's least suspecting. Maybe when the garden is kaput and I don't have all that lovely, organic corn on the cob, green beans, and tomatoes to tempt me. I also continued to lose in Phase 2, but not in Phase 3. I never started working out though like most everyone else has done. That probably makes a big difference in continued weight loss.
  • Thanks gals for all your great answers, i read this life after post daily you are all truely inspiring. There r about 6 of us in various stages at work on IP i am farthest along, so the rest of the staff are waiting for me to fail and gain it all back, lol but that wont happen, they are clueless how it works
  • Will wonders never cease?
So, now 1 week into Phase III and here is the update..
I now actually feel HUNGRY within about 30 minutes of waking up. This is something that has not happened since my teen years (a long, long time ago!). This must be part of the whole pancreas re-set thing and it's totally weird. AND the flip side, once I eat breakfast (and my plan meals through the day) I"m not hungry and I still have no cravings.

Yesterday I was a "client" at a studio and they brought in Voodoo Doughnuts...if you are from the NW you know this is a BIG deal. I looked into the box and appreciated how cool they all looked (bacon-maple bars, etc.) and then realized I was not interested. No watering mouth, no "oh my gosh, how many can I have before someone notices?" thinking. As a person whose life has revolved around FRIED FOOD in any form and LOVES (loved?) cake doughnuts, this is monumental. I was afraid once I was out of ketosis I would begin to freak out and need to eat all in sight, but I feel just as satisfied as while I was in Phase I.

Now, I am looking ahead to Phase IV and wondering: once I actually taste real sugar or have some fried food, will I be able to keep this great feeling? or will the cravings come back? Have any of you Phase IV folks found that you get that carb "itch" or does it really stay away?

OH MY GOSH! I'm from Portland and I know what saying NO to Voodoo Doughnuts is...congrats! I for one was not as big a fan as bacon maple bars as I was of Portland Creme...however, the thought of one now makes my teeth hurt...like it would be WAAAYY too sweet for me.

I asked something similar late last night and will ask it here, for those of you on Phase IV, have you noticed that things you liked before you no longer do, or that your tastebuds have changed remarkably? I, for one, used to love the chocolate drink mix, and hated the chocolate pudding, but now the opposite is true....drink is too sweet for me. I've noticed that things I didn't like early on in the diet I can now tolerate or even enjoy. Strange how that happens, but I wonder if it continues after you're no longer eating the packets.

I'm three months in Phase 4 now, and would have to say that I don't crave carbs. During this time, I've had 1 slice of pizza, 2 pieces of cake (my mom's birthday), fewer than a dozen rolls, no cookies, no ice cream, no desserts, no beer, no margaritas (haven't tried the low carb one yet, Rocky!), no pastries, no candy... the list goes on. These have been accessible to me--it's not that I avoid looking at them when shopping or stay away from offerings at work. And I don't mind if people around me are having these things.

On the other hand, I eat kale chips several times a week, enjoy a Luna bar when I want something sweet, supplement my protein intake with vanilla, mocha and chocolate RTDs, and consume a cocktail or glass of wine pretty much whenever I wish. I had an omelet packet last week on my recovery Monday--the first in a very long time--and I thought it was great... but that was always my favorite. I read labels at the store, and make choices on that basis rather than being enticed by how something looks or smells, or what memory I might have of eating it in the past.

I am eating healthier than I have in a long time, and enjoy lots of proteins I always have... salmon, scallops, veggie burgers, eggs. I've backed off the cheese quite a bit. That was a staple for me, often with a baguette and glass of wine. I eat more fruit and have spent more time at the local farmer's market than I have in years. And when I throw together a pasta dinner as I do a few times a week, I grate some cheese on top, but not a ton of cheese. And if I have bread, I opt for a plain roll rather than garlic bread.

So yes, I would say that things have changed. I was sure I'd have ordered a pizza by now, but I haven't. Go figure...
  • Novak, do you make your own kale chips? I made them early on and loved them the day I made them when they were fresh out of the oven but the next day when I went to try the leftovers they were horrible. The texture had somehow changed and the taste was way too strong.
