The 9th was my first diabetic birthday. I went the whole day staying very low carb and low calorie in preparation for spending the evening at my friend's house. In years past, whenever I would visit him I would supply the pizza and he would provide the beer. This year was a little different. I still brought over our usual pizza but made a key substitution. Instead of the deep dish crust, I went with a gluten free thin crust. I also only bought one large, instead of a large for each of us. I figured since I would only have a couple of slices, it didn't make sense for me to order another whole pizza. We watched movies until the wee hours of the morning and I drank only ice water. I do miss my beer.

Even with the healthier crust option, I still spiked and went into a little food coma. My friend had to nudge me awake a couple times.
My doc and dietitian have both suggested wine as an acceptable alternative to beer, for social occasions. Unfortunately, I have never acquired the taste. While I don't envision ever getting drunk on the stuff, I would like to try and find a wine that is compatible with my palate. Since I'm currently not on any meds (knock on wood), I don't have to worry about pesky adverse alcohol/drug reactions.
It was warmer today and tomorrow will be in the upper 40s F. I'm still sick from a cold I caught on my birthday (go figure

) but plan on taking my dogs for a much needed walk tomorrow. Oh, and I'm another recovering Chinese buffet addict. When I think back on it, I totally over indulged myself with carbs and sweets.
