What veggie do you STILL hate?

  • I despise olives. *shudder* I've tried them many times, hoping that my mind would change but the taste just grosses me out. I can, however, force them down if I really need to, and I don't really have a problem with olive oil. I don't really like water chestnuts, either, but I can eat them if I have to.

When I first tried Avocado I nearly gagged, but since it's so healthy I eat it anyway, and I LOVE guacamole. I've noticed a lot of people don't like okra on here. I live in the south, so I've been eating the stuff battered and fried since I was itty bitty. Also, my grandmother canned when she was alive, and my cousins and I would devour jars of pickled okra like candy when we were little. lol.

There's a lot of vegetables that I've never tried but some of my favorites are: tomatoes (a fruit, but everyone else has been mentioning), peppers, onions (I can eat them by themselves, raw), radishes, asparagus, spinach, carrots, snap peas (YUM!), turnip greens (another southern fave), zucchini, alfalfa sprouts, squash, sweet potatoes, broccoli-- the list goes on. I really love most vegetables, and have since I was little.
  • I do like many veggies, but the ones I can't stand are onions, beets, and celery. I used to try tolerate celery with peanut butter, but I would just end up eating only the pb.
  • i hate all of them but corn, lettuce (with dressing), carrots (with dressing), tomatoes (in sauce/ketchup), eggplant (fried with cheese, hehe) and potatoes which aren't really a veggie. yeah. that's about it. can you tell my diet's lacking? haha
  • Quote: I cannot stand:

Onions. I will not and cannot eat onions. )
will you eat them in a box? will you eat them with a fox? (sorry, the opportunity for the suess reference was just too good to pass up)
  • Butter beans for me. YUCK!
  • RADISHES!!!! <--- only veggie I dont like... Taste and texture seem as though an apple did it with an onion.
  • OH !! and sweet corn on the cob!!!!!

When I was a little girl, my uncle worked in a funeral home and he told me he couldnt/wouldnt eat sweet corn because when it is cooked, it smells of dead people.

    ruined. me. for. life.
  • I hate lettuce. In my opinion, the worst vegetable to hate, because I don't eat salads unless they're with spinach (which I love).

HOW DO I OVERCOME THIS HATRED?? I would love to be able to eat some salads, but I don't want to just pile on salad dressing!!
  • Lumosmaxina- lettuce is not any kind of nutritious superfood- don't sweat it. Check around here and the web to expand your concept of what "salad" is. Chopped cabbage, broccholi slaw mix, spinach as you noted can all form the base of a wonderful mix of cooked and raw vegetables and protein to make a complete meal.
  • Asparagus. I hate that stuff! I'm sure I've never had good asparagus, but as of yet I have been unwilling to give it another chance. Perhaps my great-aunt serving me creamed chipped beef and canned asparagus on toast when I was younger just ruined it for me, but I gag whenever someone says asparagus!
  • sometime last year I responded to this.... and it's still tomatoes. I tried a grape tomato and I just gag. So far I've liked all other vegetables.. don't know why I can't stomach tomatoes, lol.
  • I'll have to agree with the asparagus sentiment. The only way my mother managed to get me to eat it was when she would make her pasta, ham, and asparagus pasta, which is delicious, but the sauce is similar to alfredo and therefore on my no-no list.

I did have steamed asparagus in a vegetable sushi roll a long time ago and it was palatable then, but I haven't been able to recreate it.
  • Green peppers are the only veggie I refuse to eat. And I'm not a big fan of celery. Other than that I like them all! My favs seem to be the ones people hate the most - spinach, asparagus, zucchini, brussels sprouts, mushrooms, tomatoes... I'm a spoiled California girl - such easy access to fresh veggies!
  • Jen, green peppers taste very bitter to me so I avoid them, but I love red peppers. They are very different and sweet. Are green peppers bitter to you? Some people love them, but I've read that the bitter green pepper taste is genetic, and not a personal choice.

Still hating cauliflower! And it's very personal
  • I can't eat celery. I have tried it with so many things too but yeah, it is nasty to me :/
