  • Pinto beans are not OK until Phase II. Kidney, black, navy beans and chick peas are fine on Phase I. Sorry, but I have no idea why pinto beans are not allowed.
    Eggs are allowed in Phase I but do have saturated fat. You may be using too many. Eggbeaters and egg whites ca help cut that type of fat.

  • Thank you for the update on pinto beans. I was reviewing the book last night and noticed several misconceptions I have had on foods - like sausage (regular and eggs). My scale has moved downward, but may be more dramatic if I change a couple of things.

    I also cheated bad last night with Halloween candy, so today I am beating myself up about it. I will try harder. Thanks for the support.

  • Good afternoon everyone. I started the Southbeach Diet on Monday, November 1st, as have many of you.. I just found this forum and I think it is great that everyone is so positive and just reading through the messages really motivated me to stay strong on the SBD... I was wondering if anyone knew if drinking diet soda is allowed on this diet... it never really says yes or no in the book and I can't go through life w/o my diet soda! =) If anyone knows I'd love to know too! Thanks!
  • JMSter09, my understanding is that you can have any sugarfree/diet soda BUT it has to count towards your 75 cals of sweet stuff - so if the soda is more than 75 cals - it's a no-no. Otherwise I think you can have one once in awhile. I think you also have to be wary of the caffine in some sodas.
