  • Quote: Unrestricted bars are kind of unicorns....there's a reason they are restricted!!!

Several of the Quest bars fall under the right carb count for unrestricted items (because you deduct the plant fibers and half the sugar alcohols from total carbs), but all of them are within the calorie range of restricted items.

So in essence, they won't throw you out of ketosis (which is dictated by your carb intake), but they COULD slow you a little in losses (because your calorie deficit won't be as big if you eat a higher number of calories) if you treat them as unrestricted.

    Unicorns, good analogy!

I think I am going to stick some in my freezer for "emergencies" ie days that I am extra hungry and might be tempted to eat off plan. Or on days that I have extra activity. But not as part of my daily diet.
  • Quote: I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but are Sparkling ICE drinks acceptable on the plan? I really like these. If not, suggested substitutes.
I picked up a drink from Costco that I quite like. It is called La Croix. It had 0 calories, 0 fat,0 sodium, 0 carbs, 0 protien. It is carbonated and flavored with lemon, lime, and grapefruit. It says no calories,no artifical sweeteners, no sodium. They came in a 24 pack. I really like them. Will put them in a wine glass and pretend it is wine.
If I shouldn't be using them please let me know. Only have no more than 1 a day.
  • Largo
    Enjoy those !
  • Quote: It's about a dollar cheaper than the Nashua Nutrition website, I've never ordered from Diet Direct so I'm not sure what their shipping costs look like. Nashua is $5.95 flat rate shipping for orders up to $99, free after that.
Free shipping on orders $49 and over. $5.99 flat shipping under $49.
  • Has anyone gotten counterfeit products?

Quote: Depends what they are sweetened with - if it's Splenda (Sucralose) or Stevia then it's fine. IF it's aspartame it's not.

Beware of drinking too many of these - the sodium count is nearly always very high, and that will lead you to retain water.

Suitable substitutes - herbal teas, plain water with a slice of lime/lemon/sprig of mint/sprig of lemongrass, zevia sodas (in moderation), water additives (in moderation)
They look okay. I really like them. I will be sure to limit. Thx

Thanks Largo, they look good. I'll have to try! They seem similar to ICE. Interesting info on website...differences between Seltzer and Sparkling waters, etc.

Also, love the Sheltie pic! I used to have three. They all gave me years of enjoyment. They're waiting for me at The Rainbow Bridge.

How would one know it is counterfeit? I have ordered off EBay.
  • I am not sure but I have heard that some supplement and diet products are counterfeited online.
as rich $$$ as ip is I figured it might be prime for knock offs online.
I only buy from my coach so I have no reference.
  • Not necessarily counterfeit. Could be people like myself who are disenchanted with IP products and found alternatives but still have a cupboard full of IP items.

I considered selling them on, but as the expiry date is way in the future and I'll be on the diet for a while yet decided to hold onto them for the time being.

If that changes, I'll offer them here first.
  • Liked the rice idea...some recipes not IP, but I think the mock fried "rice" would be ok.

Thanks for the link. Makes me feel better. Really like the drinks. Feels like a treat.
Yes love my Shelties. Molly is my 5 th during my lifetime. When one dies I can't be long without one. They are sweet animals.
  • I know nothing about these but look like a possible alt product. I won't be using them or any alt products. I am only using ip products. http://www.julianbakery.com/paleo-protein-bars/
  • I took a look at the link, wylothar, thanks. there is a Canadian site that can be clicked on from the US site, but I don't see the bars on offer in Canada... I sent them an email so I am hoping to hear back by Mon or Tues at the latest (they say 1 business day). I'll try & post more info when I find out.
SERIOUSLY PRICEY GF bread though! I'm not paying $12 for a loaf when I can get it home made here by a lady who has Celiac disease and bakes commercially for $8. I only eat 1 loaf a month anyhow so it's not like I'm craving bread and will pay ANY price for it.
