  • Good Morning, Ladies...

    Debbie -
that's WONDERFUL! How great of you! I have a long way to go, but I do my cardio every morning, imagining what it will be like when I tell my WW group that I hit my 10% and they clap for me. I might even cry! That is what keeps me going!

    Emma & Diana:
Both of you are so close to ONEderland!

    Susie:
Ah, those vending machine temptations. We don't have one here at this job, which is a blessing and a curse LOL. I always have snacks with me - healthy snacks, like granola bars and I always have fruit cups in the fridge.

    Charliekay:
You can certainly get back on the bandwagon. Don't stop posting/reading here. I really like Weight Watchers. It's a very sensible plan. It shows you that you truly can eat anything you want. Nothing is out of bounds - but it shows you that you just have to limit, and encourages you to get your fruits, veggies and milks in as well - a balanced diet. I feel very in control of my eating.

    PS - Sarah:
What is spotted dick? DH and I brought a can back when we went to Westminster and we haven't had the courage to touch it! I need to see how many pts it is too. We took this picture of it at the store, it was right next to Weight Watchers pudding! I noticed a lot of WW products at Tesco and such! And have you been able to find Digestive biscuits in the States?! Hee hee we love English foods.

  • wow,i am sorry don't mean to make this sound bad,but i honestly do not think i could eat something in a can called "spotted dick"
    just couldn't
  • I say wow too, Spotted Dick, I thought maybe it was a typo until I saw the picture of the can. What's in it, it has to say in the ingredients? I thought some of my german food had bad sounding names, but this beats all.

Charlie, what hatched? I see your little picture and am wondering. I've been on WW before, I liked it. Then I moved and never got in the groove again, and felt sorry for myself that I had to live here and tried to drown that with food, which sucks as now I'm tdrying ot deal with it. I should try it again, it really made me aware of what I was eating, and what I wasn't, like not very much fibre.

Keep at it with the gym Ellen. It's amazing how good exercsie makes your body feel (even sore feels good then) and it makes you motivated and happier, at least for me it does.
  • hey just click on the little dinosaur (or whatever he is) and it explains about it,its an egg you get and they hatch on a certain date, just something for fun.
thanks for the help,i ordered the home kit but do you think going to the meeting will help me better then doing it alone?
i am just not shure i want to shell out 30 bucks for the meeting.
  • OMG Girlie send me that can of spotted dick! yuuuuuuuuuuuuum very very fattening tho I would think!

It's basically a suet pudding that you steam and it has dried fruit in it. I can get them at my local (40 miles away) Brit store where I also can get digestive biscuits. There are plenty of on line British stores where you could get them.

Not posting much today, my stomach is really icky from the other day's 'episode', so please excuse my shortness! Been in and out of bed all day cos I feel so yuuuuuuuuuuucky.

    Sarah
  • Get better Sarah girl!!

Charlie, interesting egg. I think you could do the points on your own. Is that the system your'e using? I know lots of people who have done it that way and have been successful. You just need support and you can get this on the 3FC site.
  • Hey everyone,
I've been op again today. I did my watp this am but didn't make it to curves.
I have used 23 of my 26 pts.
I asked ds if he wanted spotted dick. After he picked his jaw off the floor he tured bright red and said "no thanks"....

Diane: I do the ww-on line it helps me stay accountable but you can do it on your own. I really like WW.

Sarah: FEEL BETTER SOON. Stay away from the spotted dick.

Jiggly: You are doing great. As you loose those girls will be wanting to know how you did it...Just give them a big That will feel so good.

Girlie: That's what I would love about attending the meetings. Maybe later.

    Later
  • this is a first i have ever heard of spotted dick
yes i am doing the home kit of points,i sent off for a kit that has the books and calculator and stuff to do the points.
  • Spotted Dick!
    From straightdope.com...

    Quote:
We just tackled the origin of "Dick" as a nickname and a few other usages--a riding whip, an apron, abbreviation for "dictionary," a policeman, a declaration, and (of course), the penis.

With all these varied usages, you got a problem with "dick" being also derived from "pudding"? My sources all pretty much agree with the derivation, without being specific how. However, I can see "pudding" become "puddink" becoming "puddick" and then just "dick."

The word "dick" has appeared in any number of strange places. Around the 1840s, "dick" was used to mean a type of hard cheese; when treacle sauce was added, it became "treacle dick", and finally when currants or raisins were added (looking like little spots), the "spotted dick" was born.

The earliest recipes for spotted dick are from 1847. For non-British readers, "spotted dick" is a boiled suet pudding, with bits of dried fruit (usually raisins or currants) that (as already noted) look like little spots.

The Oxford Companion to Food comments that, strictly speaking, "spotted dick" is made by taking a flat sheet, spreading sugar and raisins on it, then rolling it up. A similar dessert is "spotted dog," a plain cylinder of suet paste with the raisins and currants and sugar stuck into it, so that the spots are visible on the outside. Both spotted dick and spotted dog were traditionally boiled (or even steamed) in a cloth, but nowadays they are usually baked.

The dessert is slightly different in Ireland. In Ireland in the late 1800s, the tradition of yeast-bread manufacture was not strong, so most breads were raised with bicarbonate of soda and an acid, rather than with yeast, and thus called soda breads. Thus, the spotted dick in Ireland is sweet soda bread, with sugar, currants, and raisins, and it's also called the spotted dog or railway cake.
Best eaten with BRITISH custard, called Birds Dessert Sauce Pudding in the USA or something like that, comes in little packets to mix up with the milk and sugar. It truly is a comfort food, suet puddings always are!

    Sarah

  • that is very interesting,a great learning moment i stil have never heard of it or the desseert sauce pudding mix either, guess you can tell i never bake it looks good in that pic.i would try it,sounds kinda like flan(spelling) don't know, maybe not.
  • Happy Thursday all........

OMG Sarah, your story about being sick was hilarious. I certainly can relate. Since I had my gallbladder removed, certain foods (lettuce, nuts) make like that nearly every day, and I too, have had the "Sharts" (Sh*ts and Farts) many times. LMAO

Debbie - Great job on the loss. YOU ROCK!! Send your motivation my way.

Susie - Just keep saying to yourself...I want thin more than I want the vending machine. Good time for self talks.

Holly - Yes I LOVE the hardware store, and also love going to the junkyard looking for parts. My daughter works at Menards (hardware/lumber) store. I go visit her there often. :^)

I must say, I am not doing well with food. I lost 10.6 the frist week of WW and have not even tried to stick with it since. WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH ME??? Why can't I focus? HELP!

The WW at work has not started yet, as they cannot find a leader open to do it yet. It may be another month. I am sure that will help me. I didn't even go to my meeting this past Monday night.

Everything else is basically under control now, in my life. I am happy. Why can't I grasp this?

Enough whining. Have a marvelous day everyone.

    (((HUGS)))

    Annie
  • annie-i am the same way,i can't stay motivated at all,i lost 40 pounds in two months and just quit, and gained it all back
  • Sometimes the psychological part of losing weight is hard to deal with. Annie, do you have mini goals? Maybe put a reward at the end of it, pedicure or small trip away, going to a movie you've been wanting to see, soemthing you'd look forward to. How about putting up a picture of what you look like, that's what I should do, pictures always shock me!!

Charlie, how hard that must have been torealize you had gained it all back. What did you do to lose it the first time?

Well, I've got a lot on my list for today, better go.
  • diana- i was on low carb high protein plan since the first of janurary,i lost like 40 pounds all together but then month i went crazy and ate like a man woman, and gained it back at least alot of it,maybe not all of it but i really really gained back,i know that.
  • Very active here today, everyone, and it's GREAT to see!

Sarah, I'll look at the nutrition facts on the spotted dick. It IS a funny name...That's why we took a picture of it!

Oh, I did something last night - I chopped my hair off! I probably cut ten inches off. It doesn't even touch my neck now, and I love it!!! I just feel really good...except my neck is cold! I'll have to post a picture. So, you don't eat the spotted dick by itself?

I'm feeling good. I am not getting hungry at night - I had to make myself eat dinner. I'm just not very hungry sometimes at night, but according to WW, I HAVE to eat at least the minimum points.

Gotta run. I'm having Jimmy John's for lunch. The sandwich I get is 18 points...take off the mayo and it's 9 pts! Amazing what a tablespoon of mayo would do - keep it in mind!
