  • Oh yeah OK then

    I presumed he was a pay-pal-er
  • I've just been swimming - I thought it would be packed because of the school holidays but there was only about a dozen people there. I didn't realise that they've turned the lunchtime 12 to 1.30 slot in to an adults only session for the duration of the school holidays. Thoughtful!

Its SO hot here. Cycling back made me feel really quite ill.

I think I'm going to have to have a carb meal BEFORE exercise because my legs keep feeling wobbly without and I don't have much enthusiasm for whatever exercise it is that I'm doing.
  • No - there are a lot of people (especially newbies) who don't trust PayPal and TBH I can't blame them. Its not been so bad since eBay took over PayPal but before they did PayPal routinely 'lost' withdrawn money.
  • Carbs before exercise are a good idea - I like to carb-up pre 2 hours sesh on Thursday
  • My internet connection is rubbish at the moment, I keep losing access to the internet.

Frus, D is a and doesn’t deserve to go on the trip. I hope he has a really bad time!

Lou, I have signed up for the same race as you on the 3rd September. I hope I can be fit enough by then to run 5K - at the moment it is looking doubtful!

Sarah your dogs do sound sweet, despite their diet of car seats. My dogs would just run the other way if something scary happened, they are such wimps. I have forgiven them for their behaviour on Sunday, particularly as my sister has bought a paddling pool to lounge in during this hot weather, and the dogs are so scared of it that they wouldn’t come outside yesterday – it was very funny!

The ebay guy probably didn't even think about how you would feel. I read a book by Josie Dew called Slow Coast Home about her cycle tour around the coast of England and Wales. Comments by male cyclists on Amazon criticized Josie for trying to avoid men she did not know when out on her own in the wilds, but when I read it I completely understood why she wouldn't want men following her on their bikes! A lot of men I've come across have a similar lack of thought about how women might feel about strange men. Your guy was downright creepy, but probably not trying to be threatening. Hope you enjoy your new car!

Carbs - Do you think that my morning runs could be worse than my later ones because I don't eat before them? I'm only exercising for 30 minutes, and I assumed my lack of energy was because it is hot and I'm low on water as I obviously have not been drinking a lot of water while I'm asleep! I have a pint of water before I leave and have breakfast when I get back. If I should have some kind of carbs, what could I have that wouldn't mean waiting before I can exercise?
  • Carbs could be the reason. How about trying something like a cereal bar, or an apple? It should give you something to run on for a bit. I guess Helen knows best though
  • I'll try that on my Thursday run. I'm supposed to be running for 20 minutes for the first time. I might die....
  • Is that C25K??

I thought that about the 20 minutes too, but it's amazing. You CAN do it, because you've been training to do it. Soon you'll be running a half-marathon like us mad fools
  • Pachyderm ... us too... were only up to 3mins.. lol... oh well..

if u wanna meet before we could stuggle along together at the back lol...
  • argh.. ur much ahead of us !.. ur pratically there!
  • C25K

I hope I will be running half marathons soon as well, and maybe even marathons, that would be really

My sisters BF's mother does a lot of running, and she just ran a 33 mile race across Dartmoor in her mid-fifties and came something like 7th. It's just embarassing that I'm moaning about 8minutes today! One day though...
  • Lou we posted at the same time. I'm currently doing it on my own so it would be cool to meet up before the race.
  • Holy guacamole! 33 miles! ROCK ON!!!!
  • Oh yes - I find it essential to eat something before exercise. My morning exercise is an 8 mile walk which consists of walking down hills, scrambling/running up hills and interval jogging on the flat and, on the couple of occasions I've tried doing it without eating first, I've felt pretty awful. Lethargic, wobbly, headachey, complete lack of interest. I have one of those Sainsbury Be Good To Yourself maple flavoured cereal bars before I go (about 70 calories) and I also take one with me - it makes all the difference - I just eat a little less breakfast when I get back.

My problem is with my later in the day exercise - I can never seem to get the timing and type of the meal before exercise right. I tried having a protein meal about an hour before swimming today - I won't do that again. Definitely need carbs before exercise.
  • 33 miles! Wow! There is hope for me yet.
