I wonder if you couldn't make the point to your dad less confrontationally. Say to him in a light tone, hey, dad, I sure am ready to hear a compliment from you about all the weight I've lost! (I'm sure you could even think of a better way to put it.)
He may or may not catch the (baseball bat) hint, or respond to it. But it could be a way to approach it without it being to emotionally loaded for you.
Maybe breaking through those harder topics lightheartedly might make it easier to eventually talk to him on a deeper level.
My dad is pretty disconnected when it comes to being affectionate or with us kids, or praising us. I wonder if part of that isn't generational.
PS I'd definitely give it a try telling him you're proud of him.



I should be grateful as at least he doesn't say anything mean to me about my weight - although he also hasn't commented on my weight loss except when I told him I'd lost 35 lbs. he said "that's good". MEN!!!!!
