Losing sizes faster as you go down?

  • I think this is very true.

The last time I lost a significant amount of weight it took me forever to get from size 16 to 10. But, then by losing another 10lbs, I was down to size 4/6.

Maybe the larger sizes are made bigger in the sense that they can accommodate a larger weight size bracket???

Do you remember just about how much you weighed when you were a size 10?
  • Yes, it took me almost 20lbs to lose a size when I was going from size 22 to size 20 and a little less to an 18 and less to a 16 and so on. I'm about a 10/12 now and I think 5lbs would put me solidly in a 10 and another 10lbs solidly in an 8. Then, maybe fewer? I carry a lot of my weight in my hips, though, so when they lose, the pants fall off. I've been a medium up top for quite a while now.

Remember American sizes are different from European and UK sizing. Notice you are in Norway.

I wear a 10 now in most clothes - a 12 in some and an 8 in some... I weigh 175 and I'm a bit taller than you.
  • I think the gap between sizes becomes smaller as you go down. If you look at some size charts, there is only 1" difference between a 4 and a 6 where there could be a bigger difference between the larger sizes. I noticed that as well. I can actually "diet down" a size by losing about 7 lbs, but I could never do that before. I wear a 6 now.
  • Quote: It was once explained to me like this by another 3FC member. Your body is a like a role of paper towels. When it's full and you take off 5 sheets, you barely notice the difference. But when it's closer to being an empty role, 5 sheets makes a much bigger difference.
Great way to look at it.

I was beginning to get a big discouraged since I just broke out of the 300 lb range [down 20] & haven't seen any changes in my body yet.

But as long as I know it's coming, I'll keep on.
  • I started at 165 and now weigh 145.. That's 20 POUNDS!..... I am still the same size 13. Yup SAME SIZE... Same size shirts as well. My boobs are a tiny bit smaller as well as my thighs. But you would think that with only starting at 165, that 20 pounds would make a HUGE difference. It's kind of depressing actually....

    Have you put on muscle?

    I'd be pretty bleh too.

Most of the weight came off on its own just through better eating. I went from 165 to 157 working out. Then I went from 157 to 149 magically (wasn't eating better and wasn't working out). From 149 to 145 I have been working out AND eating better and now is just when I am starting to see a difference. I can finally squish into a size 11, but I get muffin top pretty bad.
  • I'm so encouraged by this post! I've lost over 80 lbs in 13 months and have gone from a size 22 to a size 14. I have the stubborn belly fat that is hanging on for dear life. I was a 'pear' as I gained the weight, but it is coming off as an 'apple'. weird. I would be in a smaller pants size if my waist would give it up.

I sure hope that 10 lbs = new size for me soon! It is true that 10 lbs as a percentage of body weight is greater as your weight goes down. The paper towel roll example also explains it nicely. Can't wait to experience this for myself.
  • Quote: For sure! Took me at least 30 lbs to get out of 24/26... but I feel like I've blasted through the sizes below 14.
Can I ask when (what weight) you started to blast through sizes below 14? I'm a little taller than you and it took forever to get out of size 18W and 16W and then 16 and now 14 and almost into a 12. It seems like I've been a 14 for about 10 pounds? The 12's are not flattering enough to wear out. The chest is super tight.
