Do you guys have the "Savers" chain where you live? Basically it's kind of an upscale goodwill. I have pretty good luck with jeans there. Much cheaper to buy a few pair of gently used Levi's (or whatever) from Savers than to keep buying new ones, only to have to get rid of them a few months later. Prices range from $3 to maybe $16 dollars/pair depending on the condition/name brand, etc. We've even come across some brand new clothes there from time to time with the original tags still on.

LOL on the January dieting...I have to admit I started in January of 2010. But it wasn't the 1st or 2nd, it was the 6th (a Wednesday--very random). I wasn't even planning on starting a diet, and I don't make New Years resolutions. I just hit the wall that day and decided to make a change.

I've done really well at Savers too. I recently got a pair of Charlotte Russe jeans for a couple bucks and it still had original tags on it! Sometimes I've found designer jeans there too

I never heard of Savers. ...and yup, she's giving herself the remainder of the year figuring why torture herself over "the season". Christmas won't be a problem for me. I don't do pies and I can overlook all the cookies everywhere....so... Go baggypants.

OMIGOSH. I wore a blouse yesterday to work that I have not had on since the start of Spring as it is "winter-ish" attire. IT USED TO BE 3/4 INCH SLEEVES and now it is wrist length sleeves~! When I grabbed and lifted the shoulder seam to where it should be, it was 3/4 inch sleeve again, and there is a lot of extra fabric in the underarms. Hilarious. That will be the last time I wear it. It appears that I have lost most of my weight in my chest, across my back, from shoulder to shoulder, in my bust......skipped over the belly ....and then the remainder in my thighs and butt. I'm sure the belly has deflated some but I hope it will catch up to the rest of me!

Good point---and I agree with it. I can't remember ever really sticking with a plan that I've waited to start on [fill in the blank: Monday, Jan. 1, the first of the month, etc.]

Getting back to the original topic of clothing, if you guys have a Macy's close to you, they often have some really great deals. I just went on Friday, and I got a pair of jeans & a sweater for $12 each!

I always kept my large size clothes around because I knew deep down that I would gain the weight back after I finished the fad diet of the moment.

This time I got rid of them and "rented" clothes from Goodwill as I dropped down through 4 sizes. Not keeping the big clothes around kept me committed to my eating plan. I've been in maintenance for 6 months (although I'm still unintentionally losing) and can't stand any clothes that become baggy. It's been really hard to part with some nice items I had--but couldn't stand them flapping on me.

As for the January 1st hoopla, we can only hope that some people are truly *ready* to make permanent changes in their eating as of that date and that they will stay on track for the rest of their lives.

I kind of wish I had kept one pair of my biggest pants at my HW, but I've gotten rid of all my bigger sizes as I've gotten smaller as I do NOT want to go back there. Ever. I have worn clothes until they were way too baggy (especially when I was still in plus sizes....it's much more motivating to go buy new clothes now when you can actually find cute stuff), but once I commit to a "wardrobe update", I get rid of them.

Meanwhile, I can warmly recommend eBay for picking up cheap trousers. I only know of one brand and style that fits me, and even then getting small sizes in the short length has been relatively easy and very cheap. There weren't a huge number of them around in the cords (plenty in the jeans, though), so I saved a search with my criteria and it emailed me whenever suitable candidates turned up. I've been getting £35 trousers for a fiver. Some of them were completely unworn.

Yes, good idea, but I understand where she is coming from. Sometimes we have to get mentally prepared to do the deed. I know I was mulling it around for a while and before I got "serious" I was just making better choices and not following any particular way of attacking the fat. Which brings me to another topic for another thread.

Fair enough. By the way, are you a quilter? You wrote "3/4 inch sleeves" instead of "3/4 length sleeves" a couple of times, and that's the kind of thing I'd say because I'm always thinking in quilting terms! Plus the pot holder avatar, of course.

Back the the OP. I have done a lot of "shopping" out of the back of my closet and the bottom of my drawers. I have been so many sizes over the years. I have finally made it to the stuff that was in the very back of the closet, on the floor, folded up and stuffed in the corner. So, I'm looking forward to being able to say that I have nothing to wear. The day I have to go out and buy smaller clothes because nothing that I own fits will definitely be a celebration day for me. Hopefully that won't be too far in the future.

This is a good thread. I am now hoping to move down another size in clothing. And lucky for me I can take jeans in a size or two so I can use them for awhile. And I also just realized this morning when doing the laundry, that I am actually throwing my jeans in the dryer, I use to hang them to dry so they wouldn't shrink and won't fit me. Now, I have some room to spare.

I have also used Ebay, good deals on new or almost new clothes.

I don't know what I'm going to do - I'm desperately in need of a new pair of jeans, but have you ever tried to find a pair at a thrift store that is a size 16 Tall and is also somewhat stylish (i.e. dark wash, etc.)? Ebay was a good idea, though. I might give that a try.
