I am giving away 13 bags of clothes today; half to a domestic violence shelter and half to a homeless shelter. I am currently wearing a 6, so I am keeping sizes 6-12 just in case. I have lost a lot of weight before, only to regain.

Lazylioness, I like your answer about buying new clothes. I think I am going to adopt that idea myself! I long for the day when I will look at myself naked and like it again!!! I think for me, I might modify that statement to add when I feel sexy naked in front of my boyfriend again! He never says anything mean or judgmental about the weight I gained while I was pregnant and he still finds me attractive, but I sure want to be skinny and sexy for him again!! (For me too!)

My mom is quite a bit heavier than me, and I am probably right now at what would be close to her goal weight, so I am offering her my clothes as some additional motivation. She has been on the fence about losing some weight for a while. She turned 50 this year, and she got really concerned about her health and weight, so I think she is on the verge of getting serious. Mom and I both are not exactly swimming in the cash, so I know she will be happy to have some clothes to wear when she loses some pounds. I'm hoping to be able to dig out my "skinny" clothes again, I can't wait! (I wish I could do it now, it's starting to get cooler and I need some pants!)

If you sell them in a lot on Craigslist, or individually, you can make more money. If they're nice, you should definitely take that route. That's what I'm planning on doing. I too have a LOT of nice, cute clothes. Like, an entire wardrobe of cute brand name stuff.

You should try borrowing a manikin from someone and putting the clothes together in cute outflits, and cliping the back a little so it has a nice shape before photographing. Take pics of EVERYTHING like that, and keep them in outfits, and you can make a buttload of money for your clothes. People are way more likely to buy your stuff if they see it in an outfit form like that. You're not going to make a lot of money though, be reasonable aout the price. No matter how nice the stuff is or how much you paid for it, it's still used. Keep that in mind.

Anyway, as of late I gave most of my stuff away to Goodwill. But I didn't dress cute when I was bigger. At my biggest, I wore pretty much black t-shirts and jeans, so yeah. But now I'm starting to sell stuff.

I went through several sizes of clothing....a waste unfortunately! I should not have bought so much in the transition, but isn't it so nice to buy smaller sizes? I donated several pieces and sold others on ebay. I started in a size 12-14 and currently wear a size 0 and 2. I just sold a big lot of size 4 stuff on ebay....but did not recoup even a fraction of the original cost! I did not keep any of my larger clothing--I do not want to have a larger size to pull out if I start gaining, but rather take a clue to get on it before I have 50+ pounds to get off AGAIN.

I am right with you on the boyfriend thing. My fiancee is a gem, seriously a girl could not ask for better. He never has a mean word to say ever about anyone. Now that being said, he also has a hard time seeing the truth in situations. We have gone round and round a few times, because of what I look like. Now granted it is what I look like to MYSELF and not to him, but he gets really upset (visibly so) if I am frustrated that nothing "looks right". So the last time I actually yelled at him. Not something I EVER do if I can avoid it at all. And he just looked like I kicked his favorite puppy and said "I just see you, I am not looking for the flaws." Awe, makes your heart melt right? Yeah it should have mine too, and probably at any other time it would have, and it actually has made me smile and laugh. BUT at that time, wrong thing to say. So while it is fantastic to have a supportive partner, it can also be a bit of a double edged downer sword, because just recently did he start actually actively supporting me in my goal and not just saying "you look beautiful no matter what"

Consignment. If they're only a year or two old and in good condition, you should be able to do quite well.

Or try ebay. I sold a number of things on ebay that I couldn't consign.

Then I gave the rest to goodwill and such. Most of my clothes were 10 years old since I'd been doing the pregnancy-nursing-weaning roller coaster with my weight.

Sell them on ebay. It is so easy and you can sell all of them in a lot sale to make it even more easy. You can turn around and buy more clothes on ebay from the monies you made.

Expensive clothes that you love are worth having professionally tailored in, but they need to be pretty expensive to make sure that is worthwhile. Not sure if it's the same in the US but in the UK a lot of dry cleaners will do them, and it's cheaper to get them done in bulk. Simple clothes are easy to home tailor, just run in a second seam, but complex pieces like jackets need to be taken to pieces, individual pattern pieces taken in and then run back together again. It's as much work, if not more, than making it first time around, but if you really love something and you paid a lot for it that's worth doing.

There is always a use for old clothes, whether it's eBay, second hand shops, thrift stores, Sally Army and prison release cupboards, sending abroad or recycling the textile itself. I tend to wear my clothes till they fall to bits, sew them together again, repeat cycle until there is an irreparable problem, make them into smaller clothes for my daughter, she wears them till they fall to bits, we cut them into dishrags then throw them into textile recycling!

I donated the majority of mine to a local thrift shop, but i did have a few pieces altered. a friend of mine's mother is an amazing tailor and she took in a few of my more expensive blazers.

I gave away all of my bigger clothes because i don't want to ever see those sizes again. having to buy all new clothes to accommodate me gaining should be enough motivation to not.

I'm in transition still (wearing a 10/12 pant, M shirt), so I just buy a few pieces here and there (though I did buy a velvet blazer from Ann Taylor that I just *love*).

I'm eager to do a ritual bonfire. A final farewell to fat.

I've got a range of clothing in my closet that goes from 6 to 18. In the past 7 years, I've gone up and down between those sizes roller-coaster-style. I keep telling myself that once I reach my gal weight, I'll donate all my clothes except the ones that fit currently. However, I'm afraid to get rid of the ones that are too big, just in case I get back to that size again. In some ways, I think that letting go of your oversized clothing is a way of committing to your goal. I'd suggest giving away the things that are in good condition and discarding what isn't. Letting someone less fortunate that yourself feel good about fashion that you donated might also make you feel good, too. In general, I tend to donate whatever I no longer have need for in my life; however, my relationship to clutter seems to be connected to my weight problems, sometimes.
