I've been thinking about getting it done since shaving seems to cause ingrown hairs. How long before you have to do it again?

mom4life, I was always worried I'd get ingrown hairs with waxing too. Anyone have info on that?

I have no insight on ingrown hairs, but I'm glad someone brought this thread back. It's got some good info- I'm getting married in about a month and a half, and have been thinking about getting one for the cruise. And as a little surprise to my fiancee =D

that is a possibility. I'm not sure there is any hair removal where that may not happen. I do get some, there are also products out there to help with that. I will say that when I was living in seattle they had sugaring. Which is the same concept as waxing but all natural, and there are no strips involved, and the hair is pulled out in the direction it grows instead of the opposite and I had much less ingrowns with that. Absolutely loved it! but they do not offer it where i live now. So if you live in a larger city I would reccommend that a million times more first. Waxing is second place to me. Sorry got side tracked as for ingrowns I use a product from whish that works really well. There are alot of different options out there but this is the one Ive found that works best for me. Also the more you do it, the thinner the hair grows back which also reduces ingrowns. Hope some of this is helpful!

thx and how often do you have to maintain it? Do you go once a month or every 2 weeks, etc? With shaving I usually have to do it every 2 days.

Maintenance for me is around 6-8 weeks, and I also use these afterwards http://www.bikinizone.com/medicated-bikini-pads.shtml. Keep in mind the area is a fair bit tender for about 24 hours afterwards

maintaining it depends on the person. my sister goes every 4 weeks, I go about 5. It can vary on how fast your hair grows and the thickness etc. but any where from 4-8 weeks. Also after about 3 times the hair is much thinner/finner which we all know doesn't happen with shaving.

I'm just going to jump in on this thread and say that I actually just do mine myself. If you order a hard wax kit (I love the stuff from Bliss), it's really not that bad. Just have to work up the nerve! Haha. It's scary the first time, but after you get used to it and figure out what you're doing, it's not bad at all. I just use a mirror to make sure I can see everything.

bama girl- funny you should mention that. I have been thinking about doing it. I mean i've been getting it done for years so I know the deal just haven't gone for it yet.

TOTALLY did at first. Totally weird, too. Also, walking right after getting it done kind of weirded me out, everything is WAY more sensitive. After the first couple of days though - I fell completely in love with it

you can get ingrown hairs after waxing too.. When I got waxed for the first time ever, the girl who did it never mentioned the need to exfoliate the waxed area like a religion.. My friend who's in beauty school does mine now every month, and I exfoliate daily in the shower and have little to no problems with ingrown hairs.

Jess - thanks for the tip about exfoliating, I've been waxing on and off for a number of years and get ingrown hairs sometimes (not as bad as with shaving!) ...I will have to remember this tip!

Haven't done the brazilian but I do the "landing strip" and I really like it. I don't feel "prepubescent" at all but it definitely cleans it up down there! I find it much more painful to do depending on the time of month and just take some ibuprofen and I'm good to go!
