Hi DINA . . . to the group . . . so glad to have you joining us. Good for you on joining Curves. I sincerely hope that your weightloss journey is a little faster than mine has been. I'm diabetic and that (unfortunately) does not make for quick losses. Hey, I just remind myself to always remember that it was the tortoise that finally won the race.

Wow DONNA, thanks for posting the picture . . . it's terrific . . . and definitely not too big. You both look great and like you are having a wonderful time.

I was missing yesterday. Started out having to do a bunch of work for that good old Company I'm retired from ; then it was the normal "shop 'til you drop" day with LuLu. When I finally did get home, I just couldn't take my eyes off one of my "purchases" long enough to even think about doing anything else.

Yep . . . I'm back up to six cats again . . . all LuLu's fault; she decided she wanted a second cat (bringing her menagerie to 2 cats and seven dogs). So one of our stops was the local SPCA where she picked out a very sweet black and white kitten, about 4 months old, which she has named Casey and I picked out a very sweet white male with two little grey spots on his forehead (look like parentheses - one by each ear), about 10 months old that I have named BLIZZARD.

Next stop, the Vet where we found out they both have fleas and they got the 'supposed to kill all the critters within half an hour' treatment. Don't know if that flea treatment worked, because he seems to be doing a lot of scratching -- when he isn't terrorizing Purrecious by chasing her around the house . . . hey she needs the exercise.

Just proves once again that the bullies of the world eventually meet their match . . . First there is Mouse who used to terrorize poor little Goldi . . . then along came Purrecious who constantly bullies Mouse . . . and now, Blizzard is taking her to task. Actually Blizzard doesn't seem to like anybody (but me -- he's a cuddler) right now, but he's just trying to find his 'place' in the pecking order so I imagine things will settle down fairly soon. Actually -- both of the kittens (Frick and Frack) and Mouse are in hiding at the moment. I had to go out first thing this morning (for lab work) and I haven't seen any of those three all day -- maybe Blizzard flushed them all down the toilet. I imagine they'll wander out when they get hungry enough. Anyway, will take some pictures of the newest addition as soon as I get a minute.

Hi Gang...Thought I would do a quick fly-by...I'm so busy with interviews and unpacking my days just fly by. DH has a written and physical test to do next week for a job he wants. Our fingers are crossed that he will get it. We also started doing the training we will need to become foster paren'ts here in Oregon.
I have decided that I will not be working, except for my sewing/quilting that I will be selling. Every place I have interviewed for is for only 5-10 hours a week, and ends Dec 28th.

Donna...Hubby and you look pretty sharp!! So nice to put a name with a face. I'm going to try and post some pictures of our new place. I'm still unpacking for my sewing room and I have ran out of room to put stuff. Guess I need to invade Hubby's dog house and store a few things. HeHe!!

Linda...My hubby had to start injecting himself with insulin last week. Exubera was taken off the market about 2 weeks ago, so he had no choice. I don't think he minds it at all, and I feel much better with him on lantis than the inhaler, since he sometimes forgot to use the inhalor before a meal. He only takes a shot once a day, but that might change since he has high blood sugar in the morning, and around 109 or below at dinner.

I'm down another pound, so that's 6 in three weeks. Hope to be at ticker weight on or before christmas. I'm out walking and the weather has been beautiful. Going to be so nice to not worry about slipping and falling on ice or snow. YIPPIE!!!!!!

Well ladies, I need to fix hubby something to eat. Have a great weekend.

Good luck to both you and the DH on the job market. If your husband has to get up in the middle of the night, get him to check is BGL then. Sometimes a morning high is the actual result of a middle of the night low that causes the liver to kick in with some stored glucose to compensate. This is especially true when the evening readings are lower than the morning ones (story of my life, these days).

Nothing too exciting around here. Cat situation is a bit weird -- the new male has made peace with the other two males; but he seems to have the three females really on edge even though he just mostly ignores them -- well, Frick and Frack anyway; he does chase Purrecious. I've posted a couple of pictures.

I'm not doing good on the weight the past few days. I'm finding it tough to stay away from food at night.

I should go to Curves tomorrow. SHOULD....lol I just can't seem to get motivated to go. I even have my clothes out that I would wear there.

The cat is beautiful. Mine took off and we haven't seen her since. It's been about 2 mos. now. I really miss her.

We have two Golden Retrievers tho. The youngest one keeps me busy. He's very hyper.

HFCS = HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, which is one of those nasty little Frankenfoods. It is a combination of Sucrose and Fructose that is very sweet and very cheap to produce and seems to be the sweetener of choice in the manufacturing sector because of that. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to satisfy the sweet 'tooth' (the centre in the brain) that tells us we've had enough sweetness for the time being in the same way that either sucrose (plain table sugar) or fructose (the sugar in fruit) does. Consequently it is very easy to over eat things that have a high HFCS content.

Now . . . about your nighttime munchies . . . my best suggestion is to plan ahead. Since you know you will probably get the evening urges to eat; try to save calories so you can do just that.

Hope you manage to kick yourself out the door to Curves. . .

Hi Ladies...Nothing too exciting going on here. I'm still busy unpacking, and I really need to get busy and start working on some christmas gifts for the grandkids. Hubby has a test to take for a job he has applied for tomorrow, so we are really hoping he get's this job. We are also going through the training to become foster parents, so that should be completed by January.

Linda...Did you get anymore of the white stuff? We had pouring down rain and winds up to 45 MPH yesterday. On the coast, the winds were 85 plus and on Mount Hood they were clocked at 103. We have alot of leaves and limbs to pickup in our yard.

Still plugging away with watching what I eat and trying to get some sort of exercise in everyday. Will see what the scales have to say on Friday. With the holidays getting ready to start, I haven't been tempted. I'm to bring a salad for Thanksgiving dinner to my brother's house. I think I will make a 7 Layer Salad, low in calories, and very yummy.

Nighttime is the worse for me. I try to get low fat yogurt and fresh fruit on hand to snack on. Sugar free jello and puddings are good also.

Thanks gals for your comments on our picture. My oldest daughter and her hubby and son were here for a full week and I was so glad when they finally went home. Don't get me wrong, I loved having them but it sure makes it difficult when you are used to the house to yourselves.

LINDA: Your new cat is beautiful and what a perfect name. Things should get fun at your house again with a new "kid on the block". You mentioned you had some of that awful white stuff on the ground. I just dred winter coming.

CHERYL: Good luck to you and hubby on finding the right jobs. I'm almost surprised you are going back to foster parenting again after the last couple of fiascos you had, but you are such good parents and there is a great need for you out there. I really admire you for it. That 7 layer salad sounds so yummy I haven't had that in ages. I saw on the weather where it was pretty nasty out your way and sounds like it could last for awhile. Picking up tree branches counts as exercise. LOL

I started getting some of my fall cleaning done, finally. Got all of my curtains down and washed and now I have to get all of my mini blinds down and washed. What a dirty job that is, then I have a guest bedroom to paint as my m-i-l is coming to spend a few weeks and want it nice and fresh for her. I managed to maintain my weight this past week and haven't felt much like eating this week so maybe I can get another loss and finally change my weight tracker, seems like it has been forever since I've done that.

We managed a little bit of everything nasty weather-wise yesterday -- we got snow -- we got rain -- we got freezing rain -- , I really hate that freezing rain. Today . . . unbelievably nice and sunny, temperature is currently 9C / 48F, and next to no wind. Tomorrow it is supposed to be 14 or 15 (almost 60), but overcast

Today, November 14, is WORLD DIABETES DAY. Please spend some time thinking about this disease as you go about your activities today.

In a nutshell --

Type I Diabetes is basically an auto-immune disease and there is probably not a lot anyone can do to avoid it. Only about 10% of the 8,000,000 to 10,000,000 (that's MILLIONS, folks) North Americans with Diabetes have Type I.

However --

Type II Diabetes (which the other 90% have) is basically a lifestyle disease (often a direct result of poor eating and poor exercise habits) and it has reached epidemic proportions world-wide. There is a lot that can be done to assist both current and future generations to avoid Type II. Obviously, by eating better and exercising more.

The bad news -- on a site like 3FC which is dedicated to weight loss -- the proportion of the population with Diabetes, or on their way to a diagnosis of Diabetes, is probably considerably higher than in the general population.
The good news -- every one here is trying to take the two most important steps to avoiding and/or controlling Diabetes -- eliminating their bad eating habits and improving their exercise routines -- in order to lose excess weight.

Keep up the good work with your efforts to lose weight and improve your over all lifestyle, everybody . . .

We went out for breakfast yest. on our 38th wedding anniversary. My favorite meal out is breakfast, so we decided on that. It's hard to believe we have been married 38 years. Where does the time go ladies?

Today I think I'll get into a good book or something. It's raining out and we're suppose to get high winds with this too. Or, maybe I will knit.

TGIF How is everyone doing today? Things here are doing much better. I had been having some back problems and have been unable to exercise for over a week now, but I think my boss got me twisted back into shape now and I should be able to start over next week. He scolded me for not keeping up with my exercises and letting myself get run down, blood pressure had gotten pretty low again. Things are much better today.

DINA on your 38th wedding anniversary. I've got you beaten by 5 years. Not many of us left out there anymore. That's a great idea celebrating by breakfast out, I'll have to remember that, I prefer that meal too.

LINDA: Thanks for reminding all of us about diabetes again, you know we so easily forget some of those facts and it is amazing that there are so many of us that are pre-diabetic and don't even know it.

Sounds like we could see some of that white stuff as early as Monday evening and clear through all next week. Hate to hear that on a holiday week like that.
What do you gals here in the US have planned for Thanksgiving? Not snubbing our friends in Canada, but you had yours earlier. We don't have anyone coming this year but we will still make the big meal,cause we love
leftovers. So many things you can do with leftover turkey.If it snows I guess I won't go for a walk afterwards so will have to really watch those calories. Might have to come to the clinic and use the treadmill !!
